Lisa says, "Hi!" - And thanks for thinking of her.

redchief wrote: Lisa wanted me to tell you all hello for her. She misses you all dearly and can't wait until she gets out of the hospital. She's had some misadventures already, including a broken tooth, a stinky roommate and a broken heating and air conditioning system. Her spirit remains unbroken, though, and her color is back today. I printed out the two threads existing regarding her illness so she can catch up with that anyway. I'll update you all when I can. Love to you all and thanks again.

DansMom replied: A broken tooth?! Poor Lisa. We're thinking of you guys. hug.gif

redchief replied:
Yes, Tracy. It's a long story. I'll fill you all in later. The hospital has promised to pay for the dental work she needs to repair the damage. growl.gif

punkeemunkee'smom replied: I am glad to hear she is doing OK,Ed. But what a hassle it sounds like she has been through! She,and the rest of you,are in our prayers! hug.gif

Kirstenmumof3 replied: hug.gif hug.gif Glad to hear that she is doing well! Still thinking of her and hoping for a quick recovery! hug.gif hug.gif

C&K*s Mommie replied: My thoughts are still with you Lisa, that is absolutely wonderful that your spirits remain undaunted by circumstances and that you have the love of a wonderful man. hug.gif Thanks Ed for the update.

MomToJade&Jordan replied: Thanks for the update Ed. Not so good about the tooth, but I'm happy that she's all right despite all of the craziness. Give her a hug.gif for me.

amymom replied: hug.gif hug.gif Thanks for the update! I said an extra prayer for you tonight. We had a trip to the ER.... Billy hurt his foot nothing serious TG...... But while there Lisa was in my thoughts so I said a prayer that she continues to do well. hug.gif

The tooth... I've been reading up on this and there is a bit of disagreement in the medical community about just what causes this not uncommon problem. Apparently tooth fractures in patients who undergo intubation is not that out of the ordinary. The disagreement comes in the why. For a long time it was thought that the insertion of the laryngoscope and the forces sometimes necessary to open the mouth to insert the tube were the most likely causes, but scientists are leaning in the direction that many fractures actually happen after the tube has been inserted either by the patient biting the tube or some other event which causes the patient to reflexively clench her teeth. It seems that Lisa clenched as the tube was being removed. It appears that the use of a bite guard would have kept this from happening, which is likely why the anesthesiologist's office was so adamant about making sure they got the bill for the repair. She's had three visits so far and each time the nurse-anesthesiologist said to make sure and get them an estimate for the tooth repair.

Oh yuck #2. Lisa was stuck in the recovery room for 7 1/2 hours waiting for an open bed. This is unusual in this hospital, especially this time of year.

Oh yuck #3. Yesterday's temperatures got to nearly 80'F (27'C) and the air conditioners at the hospital broke down causing temperatures inside to be in the low 80's. Couple that with plastic mattresses and a stinky roommate (see Oh yuck #4), and you can imagine how miserable my poor gr33n3y3z was. They finally got the A/C working late this afternoon.

Oh yuck #4. Lisa's roommate had a bowel problem and could not get out of bed to use the toilet. She used the bedpan four times in three hours, then several more times after that... This all in the middle of the night last night, so the poor kid didn't get much sleep. Her roommate was moved to a private room today. My wife's new roommate seems to be better.

It's been an adventure.

lisar replied: o Ed and Lisa sounds like it has been rough. I hope it all gets better REAL quick. I hope she has a speedy recovery and everything is fine. hug.gif hug.gif

HuskerMom replied: Glad to know she's doing better! hug.gif

MoonMama replied: Glad she is doing better. hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif

mom2my2cuties replied: Oh man! poor lisa! I must have missed something as I am not exactly sure as to why she is in the hospital. But I did want to say, the tooth thing is REALLY common, especially if you are intubated. I got one when they did my gallbladder surgery, but it was because I bit down as it was being removed (I was told)

Calimama replied: I hope tomorrow is less eventful for her. I'm glad they caught it before it got worse. Hope the recovery goes smooth and she's back here shortly! hug.gif hug.gif

redplaydoh replied: Oh gosh I'm glad she's doing better in spite of all the stuff going on around her. I also had a tooth break during intubation. Apparently while inserting the tube the laryngoscope was "rocked back" putting pressure on my front tooth... only the hospital didn't pay for mine repair, but said it was a risk that I signed on the consent form. growl.gif

The tooth can be repaired, the best news is that Lisa is doing well after a ruptured appendix. That can be so dangerous! blink.gif
