Liquor Store refusing service
TANNER'S MOM wrote: Ok, the liquor store in my town.. '
Has a sign on the door that says"
No service to people with Small children"
Well, when I read it I thought..wow they dont' want people drinking driving with children..Maybe that is the strand up way to do it??
Well, I NEVER drink and drive. I won't even have one drink with dinner and drive. I do enjoy a beer every once in a great while.
I go the liqour store more for DH..then I drive
So, I am in there w/ Tanner. And they look at me funny. I said why the sign? Is that your way of protecting children?
They said NO.. someone was in here w/ a children that was BAD and he knocked off a very expensive bottle of wine?? And NOW no children..
Well I haven't been back..but what do you think. I mean I know that kinda of store is not the best place for kids maybe??? But I do take my kids in to grab beer every now and then..can't leave them in the car?
Opionions?
My2Beauties replied: In my honest opinion, they would lose my business too, I mean people make runs for beer with their kids all the time! I just think the owner lost himself some business! My 2 cents! I'd be at the grocery store then!
TANNER'S MOM replied: Oh we dont' sell liqour in the grocery store here..No gas stations nothing but a LIQUOR store.
mom21kid2dogs replied: I think I'd have likely said "Hum . ..you could keep your expensive wine up high where adults might see it and keep the cheap stuff low." That might be a solution
My2Beauties replied: Are you serious? OMG all of our grocery stores, gas stations, everywhere sells beer! Not necessarily liquor, but they do sell beer!
gr33n3y3z replied: I think the parents should watch their kids while in there Also I think the store shouldnt be so dramatic either over a bottle of what ever I dont care if its 500.00 bottle write it off as a loss for crying out loud. So would I shop there Only if I had no other place to go or let hubby go in there
TANNER'S MOM replied: Nope not even beer..and two counties including mine are actually dry. You have to drive to Washington Co..to get beer
Mel.
kimberley replied: up here we have the liquor store, the beer store and a few wine shops and that is it. first time i went to the US (Hawaii) i was stunned to see booze in convenience stores . i agree they would lose my business not allowing kids in when parents are shopping because i rarely shop without them. putting expensive stuff up high and secure is just common sense
~KARA~ replied:
Thats a good idea!
My2Beauties replied: That would suck!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Yeah....in Ottawa they don't put their beer and wine in grocery stores, OR in gas stations. They have them in the Beer Store, and the Liquor Store...
However here, in butthole nowhere (Joliette, Quebec) they have alcohol EVERYWHERE....grocery stores, convenience stores... I've never seen so many people sitting on their porches, at ALL hours of the day, with beer. It's like beer belly heaven around here.
Yuk.
Besides.....why put a sign that says no kids - they should put a sign that says
"You break it, you buy it"
It would be more appropriate, and it would allow them to keep some business....
in any case - I'd love to see WHO, with small children, can AFFORD to even be in the SECTION with expensive stuff. Not me!!
jcc64 replied: I think people should carefully attend their children in stores with fragile merchandise, and I think proprietors should understand that accidents happen, and should plan accordingly (as in- expensive=out of reach). For me, I think I'd find a liquor store with a friendlier attitude toward me and mine.
ammommy replied: Well, here if you aren't 21 you can't even enter a liquor store so it wouldn't be a problem. I think the store is using the wrong solution to the problem if there was only one incident. Although, as I'm typing I can see the logic behind their thinking. They can't really throw out customers with unruly children because they could get sued for discrimination (baloney lawsuit, but the threat would be a headache for the owner) so they will just ban all kids Backwards thinking, but I can sort of see the reasoning.
JAYMESMOM replied: Here we can get alcohol everywhere but if it was me I would find another liquor store. I wouldnt frequent somewhere that refused to service people who had children. I agree that a you break it, you bought it policy aplies.
Anyways if they keep track they can write it off as a loss at the end of the year when they file their taxes.
3_call_me_mama replied: I for one don't bring my children into a liquor store. If i am picking up wine or beer at the grocery store they are seated in a cart so they do not have access to the bottles. If i buy actual liquor, which almost never happens, I have to go to the liqour store and would either go without them or send someone else. I personally don't feel it's a place for kids, regardless of expense or not. We have beer and wine everywhere but liquor has to come from a licensed liquor store. But if you feel you need to shop at a liquor store that allows small children, then I would look for a new one and shop there.
