Carpenter ants are quite large... cockroach size? I'd say they run about small roach size. You also don't want them in your house; they eat wood.

amynicole21 replied: They often send "scouts" into houses to see if there is anything to eat. As long as you don't see a ton of them, you are ok. We got them pretty bad last year (they come out after rain a lot - we got them after the hurricanes) and had to get an exterminator to come to treat the house. I think if you just saw one you should be ok.
