Leap frog Letter Factory Board Game - Anyone have it?
coasterqueen wrote: I saw the Leap Frog board game around Christmas time but already had Kylie bought for. She has done so well with the Leap Frog Letter Factory dvd (wish I would have intro'ed it sooner) and starting to really like the Word dvd too, that I thought I'd go get the board game. Just wondering if anyone else has it and if their child likes it?
MommyToAshley replied: We have the Letter Factory Game for the Leappad
If you have a leappad, I recommend it. I give this game 10 's. It's entertaining, and interactive. Ashley loves it. Although she already knows letter sounds and is sounding out words, she still isn't bored with it and asks to play. It's a great way to introduce them into board games and learning to take turns. They can also play single person so she can play it by herself.
We don't have the baord game, so I can't recommend one way or the other.
Glad Kylie likes the DVD... Ashley still likes to watch it too.
coasterqueen replied: Yeah, she had the my first leap pad and absolutely did not like it. I didn't like it either, so we haven't bought her the regular leap pad. I don't think she's into too much technology at this point, she still likes simple things. Weird kid, lol.
But it looks like the board game is very similar to the leap pad game. So I think I'm going to get it. It's a bit expensive (the board game) but I have a gift certificate for TRU so I won't have to pay too much out of my own pocket for it.
Yeah, I wish I would have listened to you a long time ago about getting the LF dvd's. I always had every intention of getting them, but forgot and then she got the Letter one for Christmas from her aunt and now she is addicted to it. So then I went out and got the word one. We probably would be farther along in the learning process if I would have gotten them sooner. She never liked her letter magnet thing, but loves the dvd.
MommyToAshley replied: I didn't get Ashley the My First Leappad when she was younger. I thought about it, but it was sold out at the time. I was going to get her the LeapPad plus Writing for this past Christmas, but MIL bought it for her. If you get one, I recommend the writing one. The regular leappad books work in it, but Ashley mostly uses the books made for writing and a Spanish/English book (She's fascinated with learning Spanish words). I have a friend who bought her daughter the regualar LeapPad and she says it was the biggest waste of money. But, her daughter has played with Ashley's LP + Writing and loves it. Just thought I'd pass that along.
With all that being said, I bet the Letter Factory board game is just as fun. Let us know how Kylie likes it.
jcc64 replied: OK, educate me, guys. What is the Letter Factory dvd? I'm not interested in the board game for now, but I want to know what the dvd is like. Corey is learning letters at school- I'm looking for other ways to reinforce what she's learning other than the usual stuff.
coasterqueen replied: Thanks for the tip Dee Dee. I think I'll put that one on her list for her birthday. I know that's a ways away, but I definitely think she'll be into that one by then. I've hard the same thing about the regular leap pad too, that's why I was gunshy to go any further with the leap pads, but I bet Kylie would like the writing one too. Thanks for the review.
MommyToAshley replied: The DVD teaches phonics... the whole story line is about a letter factory and Tad and Professor Quigley visit every letter and learn what sound the letters make. It's got a really catchy tune that helps kids remember the letter sounds. I recommend this DVD to everyone and I haven't met a kid in the same age range that didn't love the DVD. I even catch myself singing the song. LOL.
Here a link to it: Letter Factory DVD, if you want to read about it.
There's a whole series of DVD's ... the advanced ones go on to help teach reading, and there's a math one as well. Ashley likes the Code Word Caper one but isn't into the math one as much. I'd have to say that the first one (Letter Factory) was by far her favorite though.
jcc64 replied: Thanks guys, I'm sold! Just bought it from Amazon.
luvmykids replied: We have the board game and they really like it. They're getting the leapsters for their bday.
coasterqueen replied: Jeanne,
I so wish I would have gotten this dvd for Kylie earlier. She learned the sounds SO much quicker than what I was able to accomplish with her. It's so sad to say I failed at helping her but Leap Frog does such a great job making it fun to learn and the catchy song did the trick. She was singing in the car last night the song and we were at the mall and she was sounding out DICK'S SPORTING GOODS while sitting in the car. DH said she didn't put the sounds together to make a word yet, but she sounded out all the letters, so she's getting there. I have the word one, but not the code caper so I'll have to get that one too. I am amazed at how much faster she learned from this dvd than from me.
camneely8 replied: Ill def have to look into getting this. Someone recently bought us a LF thing where its magnetic and has all the letters as well. The letters can be pushed into the main device and then the device has an audio track that sings what the letter is and what sound it makes. Its relly pretty cool. Ill def look into getting the DVD as well. I really like their products.
3_call_me_mama replied: We have several of the leap from products. The letter factory stuff being our favorites. We started with those fridge magnets adn then teh DVD adn then the leapster game and also the leap pad game (cameorn has the regular leap pad adn LOVES it. The leapster has the writing stuff on several of his games so we didn't bother with teh plus writing. We also have teh letter Factory Board and it was by far teh best $25 we could have spent for a board game. My only suggestion karen is to buyit in the Tin. (Kohl's had tehm at Christmas time) It is a wonderful game, has 2 levels of play. 1 for those that dont' know all their letters by name and sound and it goes by color. the 2nd level is byletter name and sound. It might say "insert the card that has the letter that make teh sound "D' like in DRUM. AN dthen you look fo rhte D card andinsert it. It tells you if you are correct or not and also tells you howmany spacs to go. It keep s track of where your player should be so if it falls off hte board or you loose count it will keep track for you form turn to turn. It is great casue it can be a 1-4 player game. Cameron loves to play it by himself or with others. it is similar ot a candy land style as far as game board. You are told to go a certain number of space adn then it is teh next persons turn. You ge t2 chances with each turn, incase you grab the wrong card. Again I highly recommend it especialyl if you have teh other Letter Factory stuff.
coasterqueen replied: Thanks for the review Carrie. Is there a reason the one in the tin is better? I ask because I have a gc for TRU and I don't think they have it in the tin there.
3_call_me_mama replied: Nope! The gae isn't any different. The box is just sturdier and easier to store. Also easier for kids to pick up on their own. (The cardboard box is shaped funny and it's hard to get all teh pieces back into it wihtout making a mess (we ended up just putting the pieces in a zip lock bag and them in thbox. But other than that they are identical. And i would def us teh GC t buy it rather tn search for teh tin one.. since it's kinda liek free money
coasterqueen replied: Ah, Ok. I see. Yeah, usually if board games get to cumbersome for the box I put them in plastic tubs on her playroom shelf. Sounds like I should go ahead and get one for this game just in case. I can't wait to get it this weekend.
DansMom replied: I've been amazed by Daniel's reading progress since he started watching Letter Factory (the DVD). I'd love to check out that board game too! Daniel gets bored with Chutes and Ladders and Candy Land, because it's just spinning a dial (or the equivalent) and moving forward.
ediep replied: I am definately going to get these DVD's for Jay after reading this. Maybe he'll get a valentine present from mommy
I asked 2 of my frinds about the letter factory and word factor dvd's..... they said "Edie, I can't believe you don't have these...you must go out and get them!"
Brias3 replied: Yes we do and they LOVE it! Even Mason tries to "play" it with my 7 and 5-year olds. It's great for letter, sound and color recognition. I would definitely recommend it, its a cute accompaniment to the DVD.
