Laundry question for everyone - Do you
TANNER'S MOM wrote: Use all kinds of products or just stick to one or two
Nichole got me to thinking this.. she said she doesn't usually use fabric softer in the washer just the dryer..
But me.. I guess I am a product junky. And plus we have spring water..so it suds and soaps different. Some detergents work well and some don;t.
Here is what I use for every wash..
Deteregent ( Arm and Hammer or Tide) Clorox color safe bleach or Reg Bleach Fabric Softner (Downy or Snuggle)
Dryer sheets.. if me it is bounce.
And I also pretreat alot of stains.. I use the clorox pen, or shout. Or Goop hand cleaner for grease.
Anyone else go thru all this for there clothes..
Oh and you hang dry your unmentionable's or just throw them in the dryer?
coasterqueen replied: Well with Megan's sensitive skin, I do a lot less than I used to, lol.
All of her and Kylie's clothes get washed in Dreft, well now I'm using Baby All or Target brand and she's doing fine with them. So no fab softner in wash or dryer.
For DH and my clothes it's whatever laundry soap is on sale, same goes for fab softner in washer and dryer.
I use Baby Oxy in the wash for kids stains, as well as ours too. If there's stains that are stubborn I soak them in baby oxy in a bucket that sits in the laundry room sink.
Unmentionables...I don't own any that can't be washed or dried. That would be too much work for me.
TANNER'S MOM replied: I mean like bra's too.
Dh says I am the only woman he knows who won't dry a bra.
I hang them up b/c they wires get all awful. It is suppose to make them last twice as long.
coasterqueen replied: Well I'm just wearing nursing bras with no wire right now so I definitely dry them. But I have always dried my bras, even underwire. I'm too lazy NOT to do so.
But you are right they probably do last longer not drying them. I buy really cheap bras anyways and they last quite a long time, but by the time they are "done with" I'm ready to get a new one anyways.
six_kids_at_28 replied: Nope, just tide or Arm and Hammer detergent Clorox bleach (one for whites, one for colors) the clorox bleach pen
We've never used fabric softener or dryer sheets....just too much money
Our Lil' Family replied: I don't dry mine either, I'm afraid they'll shrink and the next day I'll be popping out!
I use lots of Shout, mostly on baby bibs. I wash Thomas' clothes in that Baby All and ours in regular detergent. I use Bounce sheets on our stuff but not in baby stuff.
My2Beauties replied: I always dried my bras, I never noticed the underwire going crazy but to be honest, these little ol' things wouldn't notice, there isn't anything to push up anyways
Jamison'smama replied: I use all kinds of stuff depending on what it is I am washing.
I use Tide with downey and then add more downey---more than recommended--love the smell. Jamison's clothes are washed seperatly with Baby All
I use various stain removers depending on the stains--I like the Carbona brand --they have different yellow bottles for different types of stains---fat/grease/oil, milk/blood, fruit/wine etc. Shout for regular stains.
I use dryer sheets if I don't use the downey in the wash--like for towels since you arent supposed to use fabric softener on towels.
I also have the febreeze that you put in the wash cycle for dishtowels or tennis shoes.
Product junkie here too!
Boys r us replied: Okay..can I just say I am horrible about laundry! It's really kind of weird, b/c I normally am so anal about everything, but my laundry..it doesn't get pretreated for stains..I do however check something before putting it in the dryer if I KNOW it was really dirty, and if it didn't come clean..I'll wash it 20 times until it does..haa..I'm not joking..that's the scary thing..once it's clean, I'll put int he dryer. But my wash gets tide and the fabric softner. I don't bleach socks or whites, unless there's something horribly stained that happens to be white and able to be bleached. I don't sort clothes..unless of course..I need to bleach something. In fact...I'm famous for washing 3 or 4 garmets at a time..just what I need for the next day. and sometimes, the things I don't need out of a full load stay in the washing machine while the one or two imperative items get tossed in the dryer..then beofre you know it..it's 2 days later and the clothes in the wash stink like wet dog from sitting there so long and I have to rewash them..sometimes 3 or 4 times before I actually have the whole load removed from the washer...
This my friends is why if I could find a person to do my laundry every week, I'd pay them in a heartbeat!
punkeemunkee'smom replied: I use Tide and Downey.... Bill says I am addicted to dryer sheets and fabric softener,LOTS and LOTS of it! lol! I like stuff soft and fluffy (and all the scents have to match )
TANNER'S MOM replied: Nichole that is funny!
Tiffany came to me last weekend.. with a bag of socks and drawers.. she said can you wash these.. my mom doesn't know what bleach is..lolol
When my kids have a stain.. they call me the stain guru.
Boys r us replied: LOL..yeah I'm a TRAIN WRECK when it comes to laundry!!
I'm on my way across country to see you Mel..the whole back of the Tahoe piled full of dirty laundry!
coasterqueen replied: We are a lot alike when it comes to laundry.
TANNER'S MOM replied: Nichole.. don't give me to much credit. Well I love to wash them and dry them.. I love the small. I am not so good about putting the away.
ALot of times they don't make it out of my laundry room before they are wore.. and returned to the dirtys..lol
But I will wash if you put away!
amynicole21 replied: Nichole, I'm a lot like you! I wash and wash and wash... I have no idea how to even use bleach I like that little bleach pen though... I have fun with that
I just use Tide free for all of the clothes and bounce in the dryer (except for the kids clothes and for towels). We've never used any fabric softner in the washer - again, don't know how I bought a thing of Oxi something once - never got a single stain out with it so I think we threw it out.
Oh, and I never dry bras either!
Edited to add - I am totally ANAL about not leaving clothes in the washer overnight though... I freak out that there are mildew spores all over them or something
My2Beauties replied: HA!!! I do the same exact freaking thing Nichole - I had to re-wash some clothes last night that smelled like mop water from sitting in the washer for 2-3 days!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: We have a high efficiency washer so we use Gain island breeze HE detergent (b/c it's cheapest...), I put fabric softener in everything but towels (they dry your body better with no softener in them ) We have HARD water here So, fabric softener is a MUST in our clothes. On occasion I will put a dryer sheet in the dryer, too. I bleach towels b/c all of our towels and wash rags are WHITE. I do not dry my bras...I hang them on the doorknob and let them dry. I hang up most of mine and Scotty's clothes to dry instead of putting them in the dryer. I'm VERY anal about laundry. Nobody touches my laundry!
mckayleesmom replied: I just throw it in and pray that someone folds it and puts it away for me......so far the folding and putting it away fairy haven't made an appearance.
Boys r us replied: Aimee..you'd have a heart attack and probably give birth to a two head purple people eater if you came to my house and saw me do laundry!!!! OHM..I throw away 3 to 4 garmets a week from ruining something..Rick doesn't let me touch any of his clothes except t-shirts and boxers and socks. He takes his stuff to the dry cleaners!
~KARA~ replied: I use purex laundry soap, generic fab softener( cant use it on anything the kids use) and spray n wash on the stains.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I use Purex or whatever for mine and Dh's clothes, and Snuggle liquid. For me I think using liquid and dryer sheets makes my clothes feel weird - like there's a residue on them. I used to use Downy but I like Snuggle better than Downy now because Downy's gotten really perfumy and gives me a headache. I used to use Clorox 2 for colors but don't have the $$ to spend on it now.
For Andrew's clothes I just use All Baby and nothing else.
I have bleach, but I never use it. I buy it with every intention of bleaching the socks and Dh's t-shirts but that would mean I'd have to separate the whites - something I NEVER do. I always just end up using it to mop the bathroom floor - oh and I throw bleach in with the mop head when I wash that.
I have a spray and wash stain stick but I like Shout better. Oh and I just got a tub of Oxy Clean because I had some poopy stains I couldn't get out of Roo's clothes - he had some really awful atomic yellow poop one day and it wouldn't come out after 4 times through the washer... and I pretreated it with detergent and the stain stick each time too.
kimberley replied: i use either generic brand or tide Free in liquid only. i use oxy clean on whites like socks and tee shirts and use stain away for any stained stuff. i use generic brand or bounce mostly only on DHs stuff and blankets. i hang my bras if i don't need it right away.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Actually, I just wouldn't want you coming to my house and touching MY laundry. My mother was here after Ethan was born and bless her heart...I know she was just trying to help, but we got in the biggest fight after she tried to do my laundry. She was washing all kinds of things together. Towels with underwear and socks, etc. My towels are washed separatly from everything. I wash my white socks, underwear and undershirts together. Jeans are washed alone and I separate colors and white clothes and wash those in cold. The only thing I wash in hot water is towels. Most of Scotty's clothes do go to the cleaners b/c I quit ironing his dress shirts years ago. I went on strike. And he wears suits mostly. We all know those have to be dry cleaned. I actually love ironing (that's what I've been doing ALL day today) but I just don't have the time to do it anymore and keep up with it.
My3LilMonkeys replied: Nichole, you and I have very similar laundry philosophies! I use shout only on my work clothes if I stain (and only b/c I have VERY few items I can wear to work so I need to keep them all looking their best). Everything else justs get washed until its clean or thrown out if it's stained. We use Arm & Hammer sensitive for everything and everything gets tossed in together - no sorting. I usually get up in the morning and throw whatever is in the washer that I need to wear into the dryer and hope that I'll remember to switch the rest before I leave! I don't use fabric softener b/c it's too darn expensive.
Right now I have 5 baskets of laundry clean that needs folded, a load in the washer (needs rewashed b/c it's been sitting there since last night) and a bathtub full of laundry that needs washed - including 2 blankets that have been dirty for 3 months and keep getting put to the bottom of the pile because the clothes are more important !
Can you tell I hate laundry?
gr33n3y3z replied: I use tide he powder only bc thats the only one that doesnt stink to bad and I use my bleach pen only
I mix all my colors just to get it over with unless its Red or has been washed many of times.
Dryer sheets only on the sport type clothes like soccer shirts and shorts bc of the type of fabric and it makes tons of static.
And everything is washed in cold water except the sheets and blankets they are done in hot water.
I do Eds uniform for work ( dark blue )by themselves or with blue jeans
