Laney's check up..... - some bad news...

Jamielou wrote: Well Delaney went for her 15 month check up today....

Her measurements for her head have always been small i think i posted about a long time ago but they already had x-rays of her head taken and everything looks fine but her head is small compared to most babies. Normal for her growth but they want her to go to a Neurologist to make sure there are no underlying problems they arent catching to make this happen....

The doctor told me she looks fine and normal she is growing good and developing normal but to just make sure there isnt a reason for it they want to check...

Has anyone ever dealt with anything like this or have any info on this???

Thy already checked her for Craniosynostosis because her sutures in her head were completely closed at her 9 month check up....that was negative.

I dont know what to think help.gif

mammag replied: I don't really have any advice but my kids heads were always smaller than the average but the doctor never seemed concerned about it and they are all fine.

How was your older daughters head comparatively? I bet it's nothing to worry about but they just want to make double sure. P&PT's your way though. I know as a mother it is always so stressful when there is even a slight possibility of a problem.

amynicole21 replied: Nora's head is small too in comparison to the rest of her body. Sophia's head was always in the 99% range - her ped even commented to me "oh, do most people in your family have big heads too?" blink.gif I don't really have any advice, but wanted to let you know that head size seems pretty random in my experience. I hope that everything checks out ok, and at the very least the neurologist will help you put your fears to rest.

ammommy replied: I haven't been in that position, even though Megan's head is small. It sounds like your ped is just being cautious.

Jamielou replied: user posted image

Well she said she looks normal but wants to make sure.... just to be cautious and to be sure nothing else is wrong...

This is a pic of her does she look out of proportion to anyone she looks fine to me....but im her mom ya know ....

I think i am worrying too much....

luvbug00 replied: Looks normal to me, Her hair is soo cute! tongue.gif

ian'smommy replied: she's adorable... she looks completely normal to me....

Jamielou replied: Thanks everybody i think she is too..... wink.gif

gr33n3y3z replied: I think she looks just fine and dandy smile.gif

kit_kats_mom replied: I think she looks fine. She may just be a smaller kid. As long as she's meeting her milestones and developing well, try not to worry. The Docs will test her and that's good but chances are, it's nothing.

Katherine didn't have a small head but her weight dropped from the 50th to the 3rd percentile between her 4 & 6 month checkups. We had a ton of tests run and it turned out...she's just a little pixie. wink.gif

stanleygirl replied: Aww, she looks just fine to me, I would assume that your dr is trying to be very cautious and thourough. grouphug.gif

Josie83 replied: grouphug.gif Sorry to hear you're worried Jamie. Her head does no way look out of proportion to me! I'm sure that its nothing to worry about . . . make sure you keep us posted though grouphug.gif xx

Jamielou replied: THanks everyone her appt. is in Aug. so i will let you guys know how it goes...Im sure everything will be fine too but i always worry no matter what so we will see....

jcc64 replied: She looks completely proportional to me. I do know a baby whose head size is way way below what it should be and has been identified as a problem- and trust me, it's very noticable.
You need to keep in mind that pediatricians are extremely cautious by nature. The window for detecting and treating common childhood maladies opens and shuts pretty quickly, and they are ever mindful of potential lawsuits. I'm certain your ped is just practicing what my brother calls "CYA" medicine- as in- cover your a#*.
Try not to worry- she looks fine to me. Very cute too.

MommyToAshley replied: I think she looks perfectly fine to me... and pretty darn cute at that!

Ashley's head has always been on the smaller size. The ped commented on it once, she said that it looks like she is going to have my head size and shape. I guess I have a small head??? dunno.gif laugh.gif Ashley was on the other end of the chart for height and weight (in the 95% range). So, I asked if head size was anything to worry about and she said no, but she would be concerned if she suddenly jumped from the 25% range to 75%... then she would be concerned. A sudden change is more of a concern then staying on the same growth chart, even if it is on the smaller size. My daughter doesn't have any problems, in fact she reached most milestones ahead of what is considered average. Looking at her, I don't think she has a small head, but it always measures in the same range. dunno.gif

I wouldn't worry... I agree with the others, your Ped just sounds like she is being cautious. Let us know how things go in Aug.
