Labor scare

MoonMama wrote: Yesterday morning around 9 am or so I started having what I was thinking were just stomach cramps. But they started getting worse! I called me OBGYN and she told me to get to L&D ASAP! huh.gif I called DH and he rushed me in, they hooked me up to all these machines and started monitoring the baby and myself. Then they had some guy I swear must have never done an IV in his life! He poked me 9 times and said I'm going to have to get someone else to try. DUH mad.gif I told you this after the second! growl.gif growl.gif Finally they get the IV in on the 10th try. But this is the part that gets me KNOW ONE you herd me right KNOW ONE was telling me or DH what was going on or explained ANYTHING to me!!! This is my first baby people I have know idea whats going on!!!! growl.gif bawling.gif growl.gif bawling.gif Even when they were doing an US and I asked if everything was okay know one told us a thing. bawling.gif At this point DH and I are starting to really freak out, I'm crying and DH is beyond angry. Finally about an hour after the US the "on call" doctor told me I was was having contractions. You think?!?!? I had figured that one out by now! growl.gif growl.gif growl.gif
At this point my wonderful OBGYN was able to get there (thank goodness wub.gif I adore her she's great) and she checked me out and gave me something to stop the contractions. She asked me about all the band-aids I explain what happened with the IV and she was furious! growl.gif I don't know what she did or who she talked to but after that everyone was more then nice. happy.gif The contractions stopped and she monitored me for about 4 hours more (she was in and out she had another one of her patients in lobor) then sent me home and placed me on bed rest. With no standing/walking for more then 15-20 minutes, and know lifting more then 5 lbs.
So I could use some baby stay in vibes. I'm really freaked out by this whole experience and the thought of Braedin coming so early! bawling.gif bawling.gif bawling.gif
Thanks for letting me vent. blush.gif

Nina J replied: hug.gif That sounds scary!!! hug.gif

Braedin, stay in there wink.gif biggrin.gif

mom2my2cuties replied: Holy Yikes - I would have decked that guy and I am pretty sure my husband would have too. Next time someone tries to pull that, remind them that thier training teaches them, after 2 tries to go get someone else. And if they don't push (or have your husband) push them away, call the charge nurse and tell her the deal and tell them until someone else gets in there to take care of it, you are refusing treatment from that particular person. Sticking you that many times is 100% uncalled for!

And speaking of sticking----"Sticky where you are Braedin The World isn't ready for you yet"

ZandersMama replied: That's so scary, I had the same thing happen with Zander and the Labor/Delivery nurses were useless. They were mean and wouldn't say anything about what was actually going on. You are lucky the contractions stopped, I ended up in on IV's for about a week and a half. Now take it easy and keep that baby in for another few weeks tongue.gif Good excuse to have DH do everything! blush.gif

mom2my2cuties replied: OH something I was going to say and forgot to - I am glad your OB stepped in...We had a REALLY bad time in L&D as well. I am pretty convinced the entire staff on that floor is useless like Zander's Momma said. I was up there for about 4 hours before a nurse even came into my room, my doctor who was in the same building, came over to check on me and see how baby was coming along, saw that I had been stuck in a temporary room with absolutely nothing (no tv,bathroom, sink, etc just a stretcher) and not even given a hospital gown, and he FLIPPED! He started in our room and you could hear him all the way down the hall yelling at everyone he came in contact with.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Ugh. I hate it when they're sticking you 20 million times. I'd much much rather the person tell me they're not "that" experienced and apologize when they need to do it a second time, and I very much appreciate them asking if they can have a 3rd shot with it.. (no pun intended... rolling_smile.gif ) I'm usually very tolerant and realize that they need practice, and not everyone is ok with being poked more than necessary... so I let them use me as a practice arm when they're having trouble.

My arm's already going to be black and blue with just the first shot... so a couple more aren't going to make it worse... rolleyes.gif

mom2my2cuties replied:
Holy cow!!! Where were you when I was taking Hematology???

Honestly though, I think when they are working in the hospital, they should have had enough practice already. Now I understand being nervous and whatever when you are just starting out, but once you are done with school, you should have done it enough (We had to do 250 successful sticks) and you should be ready to go.

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
yeah... but sticking someone who know's you're "practicing" and is ok with you taking your time, or messing up...is different than sticking somone who is impatient, jittery, nervous, panicked, or annoyed... so depending on the person... I mean... if you're panicked and anxious because of childbirth or a problem or whatever... you might be more difficult to draw blood from than someone who is calm, relaxed and what not... ya know?

Practicing on someone who knows you're practicing is different than doing it on someone who just wants it done and over with. rolling_smile.gif

MoonMama replied: Thanks ladies! hug.gif And I needed that laugh. rolling_smile.gif thumb.gif Rocky I know what you mean but holy moly not me I hate needles with a passion! noooooo.gif noooooo.gif

mom2my2cuties replied: Ok this is pretty off topic but this reminded me of something they put on Andy the other night at the ER...They were starting a IV to give her fluids, and well, of course as every child she was petrified, screaming, and trying to get away, and anyway, some hospitals have these great little devices to keep kids from "playing" with thier IV's...called No-No's...Forces thier arms straight, and they can't mess with the tubing and mess up the IV..

I think they need those for some grown-ups...Especially the ones who are outright convinced you left a needle in thier arm once you have the IV started.

MoonMama replied:
bawling.gif Poor little Andy! hug.gif hug.gif

But I agree my best friend ALWAYS thinks the needle is still in. banghead.gif

luvmykids replied: hug.gif What a scare! Take it easy and ~~~~~~~Stay Put Braedin~~~~~~~~

A&A'smommy replied: how scary!!! I'm sending LOTS Of baby stay in vibes!!!

holley79 replied: hug.gif

MoonMama replied: Thanks everyone! hug.gif Today was okay. sad.gif I felt completely lazy not doing anything but I'm sure thats normal and if the doctor says rest then I'll rest. I felt so nauseous (I don't know if thats spelled right unsure.gif) and I really thought I was going to puke.gif many times today so I called my OBGYN and she said that it was fairly normal from the meds they gave me to stop the labor. So that was a relief and I feel a lot better now. DH made dinner and waited on my all evening, he even made me a raspberry spritzer with no alcohol of course. It was so yummy! yummy.gif And I gotta tell you it was WONDERFUL to have him doing all that!!! greenapple.gif elephant.gif banana2.gif woohoo.gif cloud9.gif blush.gif cool.gif
