LOL! Preschool Funny!

MommyToAshley wrote: I was talking to one of the teachers aides today, and she told me that they have started the kindergarten preparedness evaluations in the preschool class. The aide told me that when they asked Ashley to count as high as she could, Ashley asked them "....in English, Spanish, or Chinese?" LOL! You'd have to know Ashley and her personality to know that she wasn't showing off... it was a sincere question which makes it so funny! rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

WOW can she really count in those 3 languages. That's amazing. How high can she count?

MommyToAshley replied:
She can count to 109 in English. I actually think she could count higher if asked but she always stops there for some reason.

In Spanish, I think she can count to 15... thanks to Dora and her preschool

In Chinese... hmmm, not quite sure but I think she can count to 10. She learned it from one of the online games on Nick Jr. She does have a little problem with some of the pronunciation in Chinese.

She has a fascination with languages. If she ever hears anyone speaking a different language, then she will ask what language it is and ask to how to say "hello" (or a different word) in that language. It's funny, one time a waitress was speaking english but had a heavy Russian accent, and Ashley whispered and asked me what language she was speaking. rolling_smile.gif

One of Ashley's favorite Leapfrog books is the Spanish/English one that teaches different words in Spanish. I took four years of Spanish in High School and while I did well in the classes, I never really learned to speak the language. I just don't have the knack for understanding or speaking different languages, not sure where she gets that from.

Kaitlin'smom replied: laugh.gif I can so picture it. How cute.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Ha! That's too cute!!!!

zach does the same thing with English french and spanish... lol

redchief replied: What happens if they fail the kindergarten entrance exam? That there was one kind of took me by surprise.

MommyToAshley replied:
The preschool is just testing the kids to see what areas the kids may need to work on before they enter Kinder. They give the parents the evaluation with suggestions. If needed they even work on an action plan with you.

The school I want to send Ashley to for Kinder does an entrance exam. There are a total of 22 possible points. The child must score at least 15 to be accepted for Kindergarten. If they do not score a 15, then it is recommended that they go to a pre-k class (ran by the same administration and board) to better prepare them for Kinder next year. From what I understand, the test/evaluation is basic. They also use the test as an assessment to see where each child is and if there are any special needs.

As for the public schools, I know there is an evaluation, but I don't know if you they turn anyone down. I think they may just make recommendations, but I don't know that for sure.
