LCD or Plasma - which do you have
Our Lil' Family wrote: Okay guys....help me out. All I know about the difference is that Plasma is better for sports and LCD's are better in rooms with a lot of sunlight. I like my house full of natural light so naturally I'm leaning towards LCD. We're not huge sports fans so we don't need a Plasma for that quality. Anything else I need to know about the two?
moped replied: plasma tv's here......and we love them. My sister has a LCD and is not happy with it. But I don't know much about them
Our Lil' Family replied: Do you know what she doesn't like about it?
grapfruit replied: I have LCD and love it.
One of the things Tim didn't like about the plasma is the heat they give off (tons). Just walk down the plasma aisle, it's way hotter then the rest.
Second is the life time. I think he saw where the LCD lasted longer then the Plasma.
Don't know! *shrug* I like it though
MommyToAshley replied: DH did a ton of research before we got our TV. We went with an LCD, but not all LCD's are created equal. We have a Samsung 56", I forget the model, but people are always commenting on the picture quality. We love it! HD looks awesome on it and that's what we mostly watch, HD TV or DVD's. With some of the lower-end LCD's you can get motion blur, but I haven't noticed it with ours.
Plasma has a good picture quality, but you have to be careful about the logos on some of the stations permanently being burnt into your TV. You don't have this issue with LCD's.
luvmykids replied: We have one of each, plasma in the living room, LCD in our bedroom. Got them both around the same time and by far the plasma is holding up better. The LCD has "holes" on the screen, they show up at times and disappear at others but it's circles of gray that are always in the worst place on the screen
I'd highly recommend the extended warranty either way, our plasma had never been moved and still something happened to the screen. It would have been irreplaceable with out the e/w.
MommyToAshley replied: Those are called dead pixels and should be covered in your warranty. We've had our LCD for a few years and have never had a dead pixel, but if we did then we could it get the entire TV replaced under the warranty. What kind of LCD do you have? I'd definitely check your warranty... you may just get a new TV out of it.
Boo&BugsMom replied: We have neither. We are old plain and boring tv people. Nothing fancy, but that's fine with us. When we can afford it down the line perhaps we'll splurge a little.
lovemy2 replied: Hmmm - Troy are you part of the US that's fine with your plain old boring TVs
We have a 50" plasma - no problems here, not major heat issues, it looks great, picture quality is great and as much as I don't really care about TV when I watch a plain old boring TV I really don't like it
luvmykids replied: I kept walking by the tv last night to see if I felt heat I didn't
I did notice though, that on the LCD where the kids had fallen asleep with a movie on the DVD menu was faintly burned on the screen Dee Dee, do you have any idea why? I thought I'd heard too that LCD's weren't supposed to do that.
Boys r us replied: We have both and like our Plasma the best..we're getting a new TV for the house when we move in addition to those two and it will be a plasma. I think honestly, there isn't THAT much of a difference so long as you fork out the money for a GOOD ONE. We have a Pioneer Plasma and they are supposed to be the best of the best when it comes to plasmas..so my DH says(what do I know). But the burn in Dee Dee speaks of is something you have to be careful of...but I think most of them come with what ours has, a full white screen that erases any ghost images. you just put it on the white screen like 1x a week for 15 minutes and you're good. If you play a lot of video games, Plasma probably isn't wise b/c of the image burn in issue.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Oh, don't get me wrong. We'd both LOVE something more fancy, but our budget doesn't call for it. With our income, spending that kind of money would be pretty irresponsible for us. Because we can't do anything about it, we are happy and thankful with having what we have, for now. We have a 32 inch tv, but nothing fancy shmancy.
MommyToAshley replied: Here's a site with reviews and some good articles explaining the difference: http://www.hdtv-source.com/
Our Lil' Family replied: Thanks for the link, I'll have Tim look at it.
blondemom replied: OH how I would love to have either one.......
lovemy2 replied: I hear ya - it took me a long long long time to agree to spending the money on a TV - it isn't my favorite past time so I saw no need for it - but we did get a really good deal on it and even on a tight budget - you deserve to treat yourselves from time to time
