Kyan teething and shot question
J-rod wrote: kyan is already cutting teeth on his front left side. i thought it was too early but everyone says its normal.
also he is 3 months tomorrow....what shots and where will they give him?
mom2my2cuties replied: It is normal
As for the Shots ...Immunization Schedule
Shots are also given in the upper leg (Thigh area)
lisar replied: It is normal. Dont worry.
As for the shots I always opted to have them give them to my kids in the thigh. I really cant remember which ones they are due for at 3 months though. Sorry.
1lilpeanut2love replied: I agree with the others it's definitely normal.
Good Luck with the shots. It's harder on the parents than on the child. IMHO.
One tip I want to say is give him tylenol an hour before the appointment so it's not as painful when he does get the shots!
J-rod replied: steph called dr and they said dont give him anything before he come in
BabyOwen427 replied: Be cautious on the shots and do your research. When he goes in for his shots make sure he isn't the least bit sick, not a snivel, or strange poop for days. My ds had the beginings of a viral infection and the shots threw his system into wack trying to fight the infection and do the shots. We ended up spending that night in the hospital with 103 fever, diarrhea, and blood in his stool. Docs say that it is okay for the baby to be a little bit sick but I would delay shots if he was JMHO. Good luck shots are not fun.
After ds got his shots I nursed him right there in the office, it soothed him and helped him to relax, then once we got home I gave him Tylenol that helped settle him long enough for a good nap. You might try nursing/feeding him right after.
ETA: ds cut his first teeth at four months but he started drooling around three months.
mom2my2cuties replied: I agree with Jocelyn...Give him Tylenol before hand. Shots cause an immune reaction which causes fever usually and you want to start the Tylenol because it will help with fever and pain.
J-rod replied: the dr we go to treated steph until she was 18, and treats her sis as well. he knows the family history very well and we trust him. they said not to give tylenol before hand. so why would they say that if it will help him.
he is not sick...trust me....the poop is fine.
C&K*s Mommie replied: The funny thing about parenting is that you live and learn. Giving Tylenol to a child pre-immunizations against the advice of a trusted doc, is all up to you.
If you find that the Tylenol is not helpful afterwards and you are more comfortable to give it to him before hand in the future, than by all means do so it is all up to you. Take advice, but know that you are the parent and the final decision is all up to you (and Steph).
Boo&BugsMom replied: I never gave Tanner Tylenol before but I did give it to him after to stop any kind of fever from happening. I can understand the doctors reasoning. It will mask the fever and you want to know how his body will respond to his shots, esp. since these are his first. Hope he does ok! Tanner doesn't do well with them, me neither. We both get sick afterwards.
ETA: FYI-ask your doctor/nurse if the shots are mercury free!
Boo&BugsMom replied: Oh, and the teeth, I also agree it's totally normal! They make all sorts of things you can get to relieve his pain if you find they are making him uncomfortable. Once they start teething, it's like they never stop until they are 2! Tanner liked sucking on frozen pickles.
flirtycuddle replied: If this is Kyans first set of shots then he will get 5 differnet ones (usually in 3 differnet actual shots) and it will be in his thigh. Our pedi always did shots at 2 months,4 months, 6 months then a yr. For 2 months my ds got 3 shots but 5 diff vaxes and for 4 months the new doctor did 4 diff vaxes in 4 different shots. I just gave ds tylenol right after and cuddled him. For teething the hylands teething tabs are a lifesaver at my house but not all babies are soothed by them.
Calimama replied: My doctor said that as well. It can hide the fact the baby has a fever. I dont remember what shots she had.. but I know they were given in her thigh. Bella has 2 teeth, broken through already so it's normal.
redchief replied: He won't need Tylenol ahead of time. The local muscle reaction from the shot won't happen for at least an hour afterward. I would follow your doc's instructions.
MyBabeMaddie replied: Madison got 4 shots at her 2 month check up and will get 4 more at her 4 month check up... She got 2 in each thigh... Are these Kyans first set of shots?
1lilpeanut2love replied: My DD NEVER had any kind of reaction to the shots.
The Tylenol is just to calm them down and make it not as painful. Kaylee's pediatrician is the one who told me to give Tylenol for that reason!
redplaydoh replied: Bryan got his first two teeth when he was 3 months old. Regarding the shots, I'd follow the advice of your pediatrician. We always gave Tylenol in the office just after the shots and both boys did fine. I did nurse them after just to soothe them and that seemed to really comfort them the most.
As for teething, I'll make a seperate post so I don't hijack this one.
Cece00 replied: Usually shots are given @ 2 and 4 months, is he behind on them? I'd give a dose of tylenol about 30 min before he gets the shots to help with the pain...but he should be just fine
