Kind of pertinent to the "us with our pictures" - post. in the news today

kit_kats_mom wrote: I overheard this on the radio on the way home. I haven't found a link to the story online but here's the jest of it.

A convicted sexual preditor has been arrested in connection with online fraud and stalking. In one case he was posing as a 15 year old girl who was being molested and in another he was pretending to be a single dad to two children who he was "lending out for sexual fantasies". Whatever that means. It was all fake and they took a number of computers from his home and he's in jail now.

Anyway, I just thought that was strange but pertinent to the convo we had about why someone would pretend to have kids on a message board. blink.gif

When I find the actual story, I'll post a link

Polk deputies arrest online stalker
Lakeland, Florida -- Polk County Sheriff's detectives say they have arrested a Lakeland man for using the Internet to stalk and harass women from out-of-state.

Forty-two-year-old Neil Callahan was charged with one count of obstructing justice/tampering or harassing a witness, one count of cyberstalking and one count possession of obscene material. He is a registered sexual predator.

Detectives first received a child abuse report called in by a woman living in Ohio. The woman reported that she was concerned about two girls, aged 15 and six, living in Lakeland, Florida, after she met the 15-year-old girl in a Christian chat room. The girl claimed to live with her father and 6-year-old sister, and she made claims of sexual abuse ongoing in the home.

Detectives investigated the claims and discovered that Neil Callahan was posing as the 15-year-old girl online in chat rooms and telling tales of illicit sexual activity between a fictional father and 6-year-old sister. When interviewed by detectives, Callahan admitted to his roleplaying as a 15-year-old girl online.

Then on March 23, an Arizona woman called the Polk County Sheriff's Office and told detectives that she had been chatting online and on the telephone with a man who claimed to be Frank Remington, father of a 15-year-old and a 6-year-old daughter, and he wanted the woman to come have an orgy with him and his daughters.

When she continually refused, he became even more persistent. The woman believed Remington's claims, and that the children were in danger. She also believed that if she did not do something, she too would be in danger. It was at that point that she contacted the Sheriff's Office.

Detectives quickly built their case against Callahan, finding that he repeatedly and maliciously harassed and stalked the two women, causing them substantial emotional distress. Investigators believe "Frank Remington" was an alias of his.

Callahan was arrested on Tuesday, and a search warrant were served at his residence in Lakeland. Seized during the search warrant were five computers, a Tivo digital recorder, numerous VHS tapes, and computer dvd's and cd's.

He is being held on $20,000 bond. The investigation is ongoing as detectives process the evidence seized at his home.

In 1994, Callahan was sentenced to six years in state prison (he served three years) and ten years probation for attempted sexual battery by an adult on a victim under 12 and lewd/lascivious act on a child under 16.

Brias3 replied: That just sickens me!

C&K*s Mommie replied: I got to thinking about this more and I could not shake it from my mind, that someone/many people (since this surely is not an isolated case) would be so disturbed as to concoct a story that is not only false, but is sick too. I just cannot fathom why/how people could be so disturbed to act so low, and prey on others by posing as a victim.

ashtonsmama replied: How creepy...
I can't believe someone would stoop so low as to mess with someone's mind like that...and the whole "lending out for sexual fantasies" thing just makes me want to puke.
