Kids and Dentists?
stella6979 wrote: How old were your kids when you started taking them to the dentist?
redchief replied: 2. At that time they were already able to reliably predict whether there would be orthodontic work on the horizon, whether or not decay was going to be a problem.
lovemy2 replied: I think Olivia was close to 3 I waited more based on her personality than anything - I knew she would freak when she was 2 and didn't want it to be a bad experience, etc. I also think it is very wise to take them to a PEDIATRIC dentist - my own dentist did kids but he was such a dork I knew she would blow a gasket - he was great for me but not her - Olivia's dentist office is a virtual playground TVs on the ceiling, posters, tons of color, fish tanks and every imaginable thing to make the instruments they use very kid friendly!!!!
stella6979 replied: Oh, I definitely plan on taking her to a pediatric dentist, I just wasn't sure if there was a certain age or what? Thanks for all the info!
redchief replied: Actually we only chose to do that with one of our kids. She just couldn't get herself settled at the family dentist so we all felt a ped dentist would be best for her. The others were all fine with our family dentist. Pediatric dentists are expensive!
MommyToAshley replied: Ashley was 3. They didn't do much at her first visit... count her teeth and visually inspect them. I think they cleaned them with regular toothpaste too.
luvbug00 replied: 3 here as well
msoulz replied: I'm thinking he was close to 4 before we took him, but he didn't get teeth until late. In fact, he is almost nine and has only lost 2 teeth but the dentist doesn't seem concerned. He goes to a pediatric dentist in Berkley if you're interested. So far all has been well there. Or if you find good one nearby, do share!
Cece00 replied: I think my kids were about 3.
stella6979 replied: Oh, Berkley is right around the corner, but I didn't realize that pediatric dentists would be more. If we can save going to our dentist and she seems to do ok, then we'll do that. She's not even two though, so we probably won't take her for another year or so, now that I know. Thanks again everyone!
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I'm waiting until Wil turns 3, which is in a couple weeks.
Calimama replied: Our pediatrician said sometime between 1-2.
Boo&BugsMom replied: I think Tanner was 3, that is what our doctor recommended. He just goes to our regular family dentist. Actually, that is even the name of the place...Our Family Dentist.
