Kayla's 6 mo. stats....

MomToMany wrote: Today she is 13 lbs. 8 oz. (5th perentile sad.gif ), 25 1/2 in. long (35th percentile). She's on the petite side. She's doing fine, but the Dr. said I should start her on cereal to help her gain more weight dry.gif . I'm not going to, but I will nurse her more. Isn't it a good thing that she gained weight at all? Now I'm really starting to worry about her. Cary & Karen, any advice??? I don't really trust their growth charts anyway. After all, they ARE from Similac, so not an accurate way to measure a BF baby's growth.

And she also cried (with real tears & everything rolleyes.gif ) when anyone talked to her. She's just real attached to Mommy, I guess wub.gif .

She did good with her shots (all 4 of them sad.gif ), so that's good.

She's in perfect health otherwise.

Of to kellymom.com to see what I can find unsure.gif .

amynicole21 replied: She's petite, but I don't think that's anything to worry about. And cereal at 6 mos won't hurt her either, but I understand why you want to wait. She's meeting her milestones, right? I think that is the best indication of how a child is developing. Don't worry!! smile.gif

coasterqueen replied: Mollie, I pm'ed you wink.gif.

coasterqueen replied: Also, Mollie here are BF baby growth charts I found on Kelly's site in case you hadn't yet.

kit_kats_mom replied: If you are able to, contact an LC and see if they have an infant scale that you could borrow over the weekend. Weigh her before and after each nursing session to see if she's still getting enough milk. Keep a log and take it to the LC to discuss with her. I did this a bit later when K's growth really became an issue with the docs and it was a pain in the behind but I realized that I needed to do more to increase my supply or start supplimenting. It may help to identify a supply problem in any case.

Good luck & try not to worry. K is still small but she's meeting all of her milestones and healthy as a horse...there was some stomach bug that everyone at her daycare caught over the last week. K is the only kid that didn't get sick. I attribute that almost totally to extended BFding. tongue.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: sounds like she is still growing just fine, Kaitlin is also on the petite side but the doc have never been to concerned. You alread have some great suggestions. Keep up the great work thumb.gif

A&A'smommy replied: I bet she is just fine, it sounds to me like she is a healthy girl getting all the BEST nutrition from her mommy.

WTG Kayla for doing so well with your shots!!! wub.gif

alice&arik replied: I wouldn't worry too much Mollie. I think as long as she is gaining weight that she is fine. You have a lot of good suggestions here. Remember Mom said that we were all small as babies. I was only 15lbs at 1 year. (Wish I woulda stayed on the small side happy.gif )

jdkjd replied: Ditto on all of the above comments! She's just petite probably. But I'm glad the shots went well at least.

And being attached to Mommy isn't such a bad thing... wub.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Ethan is small, too. And just FYI...he is ON cereal and has been since he was 3.5 months old. So, adding cereal to her diet does not ensure that she will gain weight. My ped is not concerned at all about Ethan's growth. He said those percentiles mean NOTHING in the first couple of years. They are based on a percentage of babies in Idaho or something. You are doing all the right things. You know your baby better than anyone. Besides, you are probably more experienced than the ped in the mommy dept having had 4 other children. Try not to worry about it. AND it IS enough that she has gained weight!! Atleast that is what my ped told me about Ethan. He said he wasn't worried since he is obviously gaining and growing. wub.gif

Ethan is attached to mommy, too. wub.gif I agree with Jenn...it's not a bad thing. wink.gif

DansMom replied: Daniel's always been in the 3rd to 5th percentile. As long as she looks healthy and is growing in other ways (height and shoe size for example) and has bright eyes, skin and hair, you can trust that she's just petite. She will likely have a growth spurt within a month or two! Daniel's spurts always come AFTER his well-baby visits.

MomToMany replied: Thank you everyone! I feel better now. She's perfect to me, so mobile, bright eyes, and perfect skin. We're not starting solids, just giving her more of the "good stuff".

LOL, that's funny, Aimee!

I'm sure she will have a growth spurt soon; it's been awhile.

Thanks again!

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I'm sure she will. wink.gif Ethan got his growth spurt like the week after his 6 month check up. LOL! rolling_smile.gif Just figures.

kimberley replied: i am glad you are feeling better about things. ita with everyone else. those charts are not important. if she is meeting her milestones and thriving then forget everything else. they tried to get me to start solids early too and i just grinned and nodded and ignored it when i got home. just nursed more. jade is in the lower percentile too but look at her... she is round and healthy... how could anyone say there is something wrong?! no wonder kids have eating disorders these days mad.gif dr's tell mom's that there baby has to eat like a pig, then tells them their 8yo has a weight problem rolleyes.gif . sorry for the little vent. it just bugs me.

you are doing a great job, Mollie. don't second guess yourself. Kayla is perfect wub.gif

Josie83 replied: I totally agree, you would know if something was wrong with Kayla, and I don't think there is at all! I wouldn't take those per centile chart things too seriously, Cassie was always small and she's doing just fine! Like everyone else said, she's a happy baby and from what you tell us she's doing well, so I think everything's fine! And being attached to mummy is not a bad thing, I sometimes wish Cassie wasn't such a daddy's girl sometimes!! rolleyes.gif wub.gif rolleyes.gif xx
