Katherine is sick again...

kit_kats_dad wrote: She woke up at 6am on Saturday AM, nursed then promptly rolled over and vomited on DH. The puking kept up all day and the diarreaha started around 4pm. She seemed to feel better this am so I nursed her a few times which she kept down until 10 am when the vomiting and diarreaha started again. Her fever has come and gone but never gotten very high. She is just so lethargic and pitiful. bawling.gif

Needless to say, neither DH or myself have gotten much sleep and I've done so much laundry these last two days.

I am worried about dehydration and if she is still lethargic later this evening we will probably take her into the ER for an IV.

One question for you ladies, the nurse on call said that I shouldn't nurse her. I thought that breastmilk was the easiest thing on the stomach. wacko.gif She doesn't seem to be able to keep it down very long but she also thinks I'm trying to torture her if I try to hold her without nursing her. Any suggestions? My instinct is to just keep nursing her and being there to clean up the mess but I could be wrong.

booey2 replied: Sorry no advice here just some get better vibes to Katherine.

Daddy of Schnoogly replied: Our Ped always says to give Iain an ounce and JUST an ounce of formula or pedia lite each hour, and if he can't keep it down, to take him in to the ER. Thus far, he's always managed to keep the small amount down. Since Iain won't drink pedia lite, I mix the unflavored variety with formula instead of water, and he drinks that.

Also, if Katherine is having wet diapers, then she's not dehydrated. If she's not having wet diapers, then you should definitely think about taking her in.

ediep replied: ooohhh poor sweetie! I hope she gets better soon!

amynicole21 replied: Oh no! That sounds horrible sad.gif Poor Katherine. I would say that bmilk has to be the easiest thing on her stomach, not to mention the thing that might just help her get over whatever this is! Maybe you should just give her sips, though... I know how hard that would be for Sophia - taking her off the breast before she is done would be torture, but maybe too much is causing the problem. Could you pump for her? I can't remember if you were doing that... I hope she is feeling better soon!

~CrazieMama~ replied: Awwwwww, poor baby. I don't have any advice because I could not BF. So here are some ~~~~~~~GET WELL VIBES~~~~~~~

kit_kats_mom replied:
Nope, not pumping. sad.gif I've been trying to pull her off after a minute or two but then she fusses like crazy. I've been trying to think about yucky stuff while she's nursing which seems to be reducing my letdown so at least it won't gush out at her. That seems to be working a little bit.

I actually nursed her very little yesterday and then I only nursed on one side. I woke up with one huge, lumpy boob. I went downstairs to pull out my pump and it was broken. I had to hand express for 20 minutes until I was comfortable. sad.gif

MommyToAshley replied: Awwe, pooor kat! I hope she is feeling better soon.

A&A'smommy replied: awwww poor baby!!! ~~~~~~get well vibes~~~~~~ and ~~~~~~stay well vibes~~~~~~~ for you and your dh i hope she gets better soon!! (((BIG HUgs))))) for all of you!!!

jem0622 replied: I would just try offering pedialyte or even water. Sips every 30 minutes or so. Just to keep her hydrated.

Hope that she is better soon. A cold is one thing, but when they are sick like this it is upsetting and draining for everyone!

kit_kats_mom replied: Thanks guys. She seems to be her normal self again this morning. wub.gif

I ended up taking her to the emergency room last night even though the vomiting had let up and she had held down a few nursing sessions during the day. She was mildly dehydrated but they gave her a phenegran suppository which is an anti nausea drug....added bonus, it makes you sleepy. rolleyes.gif Next time I'll take her earlier. I just kept second guessing myself. She was really well behaved and she was one of 4 babies there with the same thing.

Thanks Kimberly for the link. I always forget to check Kelly mom's site when stuff like this happens.

jdkjd replied: I'm glad everything is going better. I'll have to remember about that suppository...

Hopefully, she'll be her regular crazy self today!

jen replied: Glad she is feeling/getting better!! smile.gif
