Kansas Church Protests - At Amish Children's Funeral
mom2my2cuties wrote: I keep looking for an article on this as I just saw it on the news - But Westboro Baptist Church from Kansas is going to be protesting at the Amish Children's Funeral. This is the same church (and I use that term VERY VERY lightly because I don't think these people are "godly" or "Christian" in ANY way) who protest at Military funerals.
They claim that God is mad at the Govenor of PA for something and the USA for allowing homosexuals into the military.
This makes my heart break for this community even more. They don't even pay attention to local/national politics and this will serve NO purpose but to cause even more hurt to those families.
---- SIDE NOTE ---- Please don't turn this into a military/ government/ homosexuality/ religion debate - I posted this strictly for information.
lisar replied: I dont like the idea of them protesting at any funeral. And now for the Amish they wont understand that. Like you said they dont watch the news. I feel for those families.
MoonMama replied: Its just gets more and more heartbreaking the more I hear about it! Lots of thoughts and prayers going out to those families.
boyohboyohboy replied: I wish they would get all the media and the on lookers out of here so these people can mourn the loss of their children in peace. I wish people would just think for one minute how they would feel if it were their own families, and stop forcing info out of them for news ratings...
boyohboyohboy replied: I was also just remembering, I saw on Glen Beck while back ,that their is a group of well wishers that follow these horrible people protesters to funerals, that sing loud church songs so that they can drown out the protesters. I hope they know about this one.
C&K*s Mommie replied:
UGH!
Crystalina replied: I agree. The media is great for information but they already have the info so why are they still hanging out. They won't be happy until they get a helicopter shot of these poor families burying their daughters. I am a news fanatic and MSNBC is on most of the time Izabella is at school but I cringe when I see some of the cameras trying to capture moments like this. These children are dead, the sicko is dead, they have their story now leave.
As for the protesters...like I said in another post....Satan definatley walks among us. They can say they are church goers or whatever these people call themselves (I'm not familiar with them and this is the first time I've heard of such a thing) but if they are protesting funerals? Two words...Judgement Day!
punkeemunkee'smom replied: That Westboro 'Church'-like you said not the word I would use-is a dispicable group of people! This act was carried out by a SICK and twisted man NOT under the direction of God. I hope that the families and parents of these little girls can greive in peace. Is there anything that the police can do to keep these away from the funerals?
Kaitlin'smom replied: I feel for those families and not sure how they are handling all the 'attention' the amish I know (MIL runs a taxi, if you will, for them) and the adults are NOT allowed to have there photgraph taken.
I just dont understand why you would protest a funeral of inocent childern who died, thats so wrong.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Why am I not surprised. That man is an absolute abomination. I hate that I share air with him.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Probably not, freedom of speech and all that, but when I was at UWyoing Matthew Shepard was murdered and that Westboro Group protested on campus. A group of people dressed like angels with huge wings and stood around them blocking them from view. It was incredible to see.
C&K*s Mommie replied:
I would hope that they can create a barrier between the families and the protestors. It is their First Amendment right to assemble peacebly, but it would be ideal for the police to still create a barrier for the families.
mckayleesmom replied: That is disgusting.....I wish they would make it illegal with jail sentences for that.
BAC'sMom replied: How cold hearted of them
mom2my2cuties replied: I had thought they had just passed some sort of law that they couldn't protest within like 500 feet of a funeral, funeral home, funeral procession, or place of worship - but I am assuming that didn't pass into law in the light of this.
C&K*s Mommie replied: I am behind in the news, but that would be great if they did pass a law.
The only other thought would be that this so-called church would heckle and wave signs at the passing buggy's or people walking by as they make their to the funeral. Still within a 500ft distance, but still visible.
Sick people!
mckayleesmom replied: I heard that too, but maybe it just pertained to Military since that is what they were protesting so much of.
Crystalina replied: If it isn't a law it should be! Isn't a funeral considered private? I mean especially an Amish one. It's not like they will bury these children in a public cemetary.
mom2my2cuties replied: The Law
And Crystal that gives some background on this group that does this protesting.
coasterqueen replied: They passed a similar law in our state this past session.
C&K*s Mommie replied: Is the law in effect for PA??
It mentioned some states among the dozen that also have them on the books like Ind. But does it also effect PA?
mom2my2cuties replied: I dunno - I didn't feel like doing that much googling
Crystalina replied: I didn't see where it said anything about Pa. but I'm hoping that is one of the dozen or so states that have passed this law.
And this... WTH is wrong with these people? I'ms sorry but in a case like this all of those horrible people need to be uniformed up and stuck out on the front line. Let them sacrifice for their country like these poor soldiers are. I by no means support this war but I do support the soldiers, (please, this is my opinion only and do not need a back-lash). These soldiers are dying so these morons can live safely and protest all they want. They shouldn't, however, be doing it at their funerals. That is blatant disrepect.
gr33n3y3z replied: Westboro Baptist Church from Kansas is going to be protesting at the Amish Children's Funeral.
What are they protesting? They are a bunch of idiots and should mind their own business and keep their wierd ideas to themselves.
mom2my2cuties replied: They are protesting this funeral against the Govenor of PA
redchief replied: Let's put it this way... Their home website is http://www.godhatesf*gs.com
These people hide their hate behind a religious facade. They quote bible verse to justify their hate, but forgot the important verse about not judging lest they be judged themselves. In the end, they'll get theirs. Their leadership is a family of redneck, nazi, homophobes. 'Tis a shame that poor innocents have to bear the brunt of their idiotic idolatry.
gr33n3y3z replied: Like I said before
They are a bunch of idiots and should mind their own business and keep their wierd ideas to themselves.
coasterqueen replied: OMG , nice website name!
Boo&BugsMom replied: If that's the case, what is protesting at a funeral going to solve? Some people just can't get along in life without complaining about something. Those people need to mourn without other people throwing hissy fits that don't even pertian to them.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Wow! What a bunch of wackos! Thanks for that insight Ed. Sounds more like a cult than anything else.
redchief replied: Reads like one too... Check out their website.
Crystalina replied: WTH does this mourning Amish society have to do with that? Like I'm sure the Amish were lined up to vote for him or anyother politician.
I didn't click on the link Ed but just the name of the site says it all. So basically they are no better then skinheads, KKK or any other hate group. Gotcha. I will not give them the 2 seconds it would take to click on their sick site.
Boo&BugsMom replied: It's truly sad how some people can twist the word of God. It's even more sad how some people can follow places (I wont use church because I hold that term dear to my heart) like this so blindly!
redchief replied: These nutbags have come across my radar before. They're publicity mongers; nothing more.
mom2my2cuties replied: Totally
On thier website - they have lists of upcomnig "pickets" with soldiers names, burial site addresses, rank and everything. They REALLY shouldn't be allowed to do this -
However -
In consideration for having WBC's representative on the Mike Gallagher Show from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, October 5, WBC has cancelled the Amish school girl picket.
ETA - Below is thier orignal reasoning for having the picket.
WBC to picket funerals of Pennsylvania school girls killed by a mad man in punishment for Gov. Ed Rendell's blasphemous sins against WBC - in religious protest and warning: "He suffered no man to do them wrong; yea, he reproved kings for their sakes; Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm." Psa. 105:14-15. &'For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge (avenge) his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God." Heb. 10:30-31.
Gov. Ed Rendell - speaking and acting in his official capacity to bind the State of Pennsylvania - slandered and mocked and ridiculed and condemned Westboro Baptist Church on national Fox TV. Rendell also revealed a conspiracy to employ the State's police powers to destroy WBC in order to silence WJ3C's Gospel message. Co-conspirators identified by Rendell included state officials, citizens, lawyers, legislators and media.
Crystalina replied: I have seen KKK protests before and I hate to admit they have all been peaceful (the ones I have seen). These people actually showed manners for our community. They held their little whatever they call it and left. I do not agree with them in the least bit but I was impressed that they did their thing and did it peacefully and quietly. These were passersby and the community was told in advance that they would be stopping through. We were prepared and totally ignored them. Everybody walked right passed them like they were anybody else on the street. Back to the whole freedom of speech thing...they did it, I didn't like it but fine. They were civil. These other people though are actually going to funerals. They are looking for trouble and it's really sad that they have to prey on grieving families. I think you have stepped out of the freedom of speach zone and into the harrassing zone at that point.
redchief replied: It makes me sick to actually say this, but they have a constitutional right to protest. I can only hope someone, somewhere along the way, exercises his unconstitutional urge to kick their butts... all deniably of course.
mom2my2cuties replied: While I understand thier constitutional right to protest but my question is - isn't it harrassment to do this to the family?
Edited to remove my 'extreme' emotions about these people.
Crystalina replied: Does that mean a no go? I got lost in all their biblical crap. I call it crap because of the peoples mouths it is coming out of.
The sad thing is they will move on to another funeral.
mom2my2cuties replied: Yeah it means they aren't going to that particular funeral because they got an opportunity to be on TV directly instead of just indirectly.
The thing I quoted was from thier flyer about the Amish Protest and why they were planning to do it initally.
Crystalina replied: How can it not be? Now to get some politician off his butt to see it.
redchief replied: By legal definition? By legal definition, a one-time protest that does not result in the protestors attempting to interfere other than to be seen is not harrassment. They would have to try and get into the funeral, attempt to blockade the procession or be aggressive in some other way for their actions to be considered harrassing.
mom2my2cuties replied: OH my understand is that these people are tossing things towards the processions, interrupting the services etc.
Crystalina replied: T.V. huh? Who's the idiot giving them airtime? Who is Mike Gallergher? Is he a national guy? I'd like to email him. That's just what they need is more publicity.
I think I've used alot of these in this thread.
mom2my2cuties replied: Yeah I keep typing something I want to say and then taking it back out because i don't want it to get taken wrong and then this thread doing down the toilet.
NO Idea who Gallegehar is - don't watch much Daytime news - it's either on A & E, Praise & Worship music or Disney Channel.
kimberley replied: funerals are to mourn those past on. anyone who protest at a funeral is ca ca imho.
holley79 replied: I think it's time for the Amish community to be left to their own devices and allowed to mourn the loss of their members. These people have never done anything to anyone.
The church from Kansas will get their own in the end.
Crystalina replied: I said a few posts back that the media wouldn't be happy until they get the helicopter shot of the kids being buried...Well, they just showed a helicopter shot of the Amish men digging out the burial plot.
