Just need a hug
coasterqueen wrote: Well I took Megan for her 2 week well baby visit and found out she's not gaining well. Or I should say the PED doesn't think she's gaining well. I, on the other hand, don't see the problem.
I now have to take her for weekly weigh-ins until her weight is satisfactory to him.
He also said to keep in touch with the LC so I went to the hospital's weekly BF meeting for mothers/babies (that the LC puts on) and she (Janet - LC) helped me get Megan latched on without the shield and weighed her afterwards and found out she's not getting much that way so now she said not to even try to get off the shield for awhile until her weight comes up.
I guess BF is not going to be easier like I was hoping it would. It wasn't easy at all the first time so I was hoping it would be this time around. Oh well.
gr33n3y3z replied: Here is a hug for you I'm sure things will work out fine
Boys r us replied: I'm sorry Karen!! I know how you feel though, I had SO many problems breastfeeding with Tanner and then when I got pregnant with Braedon I just assumed it would be easy and figured maybe it didn't go to well the first time b/c I wasn't whole heartedly into it..but the 2nd go round...ughhh just as bad!
Hopefully as Megan gets older it will be easier for both of you!!!!!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Awww Karen... I'm so sorry. I'm sure it is just b/c she is a preemie. Like Nichole said, maybe once she gets older it will be easier. Still, that can't be easy to hear. I wish there was more I could say or do to help. I had so much trouble with Maddie...I know how frustrating it is. Hang in there.. you know you are doing what is best for her.
maestra replied: I'm sorry things haven't been easy this time around. I hope they get better!
ediep replied: hope it gets easier for you and Megan Good Luck
kimberley replied: sorry things are so difficult p&pt and lots of (((hugs))) your way. hang in there, it will get easier.
moped replied: Good luck - I am sorry you are having a hard time - I used the sheild just until he learned to latch on and then it was great - hang in there!
atlantamomof2 replied: Oh, sweetie, I'm sorry! How hard to hear that she's not gaining "enough" (according to them) Stick with it, I'm sure it will get better with the LC's help. Big ((hugs)) to you and your little one.
3_call_me_mama replied: Hugs to you! Hope she catches on soon. Just remember that the amount of love you have for her is not held in how you feed her.
amynicole21 replied: Aw, Karen! I'm so sorry it's not going easily That really bums me out! You'd think that those of us that have done this forever would have an easy experience... guess things never really work out as planned. I am sure you guys will get over this hurdle quickly. Hang in there sweetie!!!
Kirstenmumof3 replied: I'm sure everything will work out! Sending lots of hugs your way!
mammag replied: I hope things start to go better for you. I know it must have been sad to hear.
Josie83 replied: I'm sure that she will be more than fine, Karen . . . how could she not, you are a great mother! but sending your way anyway :0 xx
Kaitlin'smom replied:
she is not lossing right? gaining some, just keep at it, your doing great
jcc64 replied: Hey Karen. Been MIA for awhile on vacation, but been wondering how you've been doing. I know how scary the weight issue is at this stage of the game, but it is so incredibly common, especially with preemies. Try not to get too tense about it, that can affect your letdown. I'm sure you'll both get into a groove soon. Everyone can't be at the top of the growth curve, right? Try to look for some other cues about her genuine wellness. (eg- bright, alert for some of the time, peeing, pooping, etc). I know they don't give you much to go on when they're so little, so it's hard. But hang in there, she'll pick up. Hugs to you all.
DansMom replied: Hang in there. Sorry you're having a rough patch!
coasterqueen replied: Thanks Jeanne. There are things that show me she IS gaining. Like when she was born she had literally NO fat on her body. The skin on her little calves just drooped. NOW she actually has fat underneath that skin and actually looks like she has calves. I guess this is just so DIFFERENT from Kylie since she was a pudge.
MomToMany replied: Hugs Karen! Sorry you are having such an awful time. I wish I had more advice to give you. I hope once she starts gaining more and gets stronger, she can latch on correctly without the nipple shield.
Just want to offer my support and give you some (((HUGS))).
BTW, Megan is beautiful ! Congratulations! Sorry it's so late.
