Just got home! - 12 week appointment recap...
ashtonsmama wrote: It went perfectly! We got there a little late, but the office was running behind anyways, which I figured might be the case, so we were fine! Ryan kept grabbing my hand and squeezing it, it was pretty funny, I think he was more excited than I was! We heard our little angel's heart beating strong--about 164 BPM!
Not much else new, OB said all looks fine, baby's healthy, I'm healthy, we're good to go! And I was just looking up info on 12 weekers, this just made me cry, just out of happiness:
"If your practitioner uses a doppler, you may be able to hear your baby's heart beat at this office visit. It will sound very fast. Some say that they hear clicking or the sounds of horse hooves. Either way it is a joyous sound to hear! Your risk of miscarriage is greatly reduced once you hear this sound. "
I found this Week by Week info on about.com, it's really neat to see what baby is up to and how they grow at the different stages, etc.
"Mother:
You may actually start feeling better from your extreme tiredness and nausea this week. Others will hang on to it for awhile longer. Your abdomen may start expanding, especially if this is not your first pregnancy.
Your placenta will take over the production of hormones around this time. If you have suffered from corpus luteum cysts they may begin to dissolve now. Your risk of miscarriage is reduced even further.
Baby:
While your baby's brain is not the same size it will be at birth, it does have the same structure. Bile is being secreted by this time. S/he weighs about 14 grams and is approximately 3.54 inches in total length.
Your baby has its reflexes and also practice movements in the digestive tract. All of this in preparation for extrauterine life."
LOVE that part about the reduced risk of miscarriage. I was a little hesitant (still am a little bit) to tell people other than immediate family in case, God forbid, something happen. But things are looking great, so we should make it through these next months without a hitch!
Not much else new at this appointment, they got us in and out pretty quickly, they were really busy and some woman came in as we were leaving and she was IN LABOR! I don't know why she was there and not the hospital, who knows. But I felt for her, she was moaning and walking, and then stopping, and then walking, and nobody noticed until she got inside the office! Poor lady.
Sorry to babble--
I'm just so hyper and excited right now! I seriously can't wait for this baby to come! Ryan was so happy to hear that little HB, you should have seen the big smile on his face and the sweet kiss he gave me when he heard it...

I know my SO gave me a big kiss when we heard the HB and saw our little peanut on the monitor, he even had tears in his eyes! SHH, don't tell him I told you guys that! LOL! Anyways, congrats on a great 12 weeks!! Keep up the good work!

Halo42101 replied: I am really sorry, and I truly don't mean to rain on your parade, but why did we loose our baby at 12 weeks if so much at that time reduced miscarriage? We heard and saw our baby's heart beat twice but still lost our baby. It was probably because of my Pelvic Infection and they missed it on the ultra sound. I am sorry, I am still stunned as to why we lost ours that far along. Amanda, I don't want you to be upset by this post... I just don't get it. I am very thankful everything looks good for you & your baby and I pray that all continues to go well.
3xsthefun replied: I'm so glad everything went well with your appointment today!
CantWait replied: Music to a mom's ears. I'm glad your visit went well.
ashtonsmama replied: Of course I'm not upset, Jess...no worries sweetie. I'm just so sad for you both--I do know that there is still a chance of M/C, and I had a friend who lost a baby a couple years ago at 17 weeks to M/C, so it can happen later, I do know that.
I don't know why some babies become angels and some don't. And I can't say anything to take the pain of your loss away, but just know, everyone's angels are waiting for them, I do believe that. Thank you girls!
