Just curious... babies nicknamed momma
MommyToAshley wrote: I remember reading that some of you call your babies by the nickname "momma". And, then the other night I was watching Big Brother, and Robert called his little girl that. I have never heard this as a nickname for a child before. Does your baby get confused about when you are talking about yourself and when you are calling them by the nickname? I'm just curious.
amynicole21 replied: We call Sophia Momma most of the time. I don't know where it came from... we just started doing it. I know a lot of Hispanic parents call their kids Poppy and Mommy too. Weird.
She always responds when we say Momma or Mommy in a certain tone of voice. She knows what we mean too if DH says "go give something to Mommy." I think it may have to do with the tone and inflection of our voice when we say the word. Who knows??
Guest replied: I call Mckaylee that alot...lol...but she usually knows who Im talking about. I also call her Momma sitta. (SP?)
mckayleesmom replied: That guest was me.
chloe&tysmommy replied: I watched the episode of big brother too when Robert called his dd momma...I never heard of that 'nickname' before!!??
MomToJade&Jordan replied: We have a woman in the courtyard who calls Jade Mommas. I always wondered about that nickname.
MommyToAshley replied: Did you ball your eyes out? I sure did! That was sooo sad to watch!
ediep replied: I call Jason Momma or Mommy sometimes, I have no idea where it came from....I think my mom used to say it to us when my sisters and bro and I were little
Heather replied: I call Ali Momma-sita too!! I end up calling her "sita" too. Ali gets called Momma or Mommy all the time. I really dont' know we do it, but we end up doing it. SO strange to think about it but is so common. She calls me MaMa though, so I am not really sure how I got her to do it. I know that when she says "MAMA" I will usually respond to her, so maybe she figured it out >>>LOL don't know!!!
chloe&tysmommy replied: yes I have to admit I teared up , that was so emotional!! my dh looked over at me and rolled his eyes..LOL.
mckayleesmom replied: Mckaylee will say mum mum mum when she wants me..maybe she got it from me calling her momma...lol...And I know she is calling me cause if dh picks her up when she is saying it. she will throw a fit until I come get her...she is also starting to say dadadada and looking for him....
~CrazieMama~ replied: I have called Brianna "momma" at times and still do at times. I think it is brcause her father is Cuban and I just got used to the lingo. I like it, i think it's cute.
