Johns GF wants this at our - house for Christmas (religion)

punkeemunkee'smom replied: If you have a Hobby Lobby or Craft store near you you could buy a plain stocking and find a Star Of David to attach to it at the craft store or even buy some silver fabric and cut one out and glue or sew it to her stocking and maybe have her name put on it or something! ITA with Aimee it is very kind of you to be includeing her and trying to accomidate her wishes!

MyLuvBugs replied: My MIL has all of us kids and in-law kids create our own stockings with whatever we want on them. So my DH has one that's HUGE b/c he's really tall and it's in a Hawaiian print b/c that's his fav. Mine is purple and has a K-State wildcat on it. lol

I think it's a WONDERFUL idea to have her stocking show a little bit of who she is. It will make her feel comfortable in your home, and it will be good for the rest of your family to incorporate some of her traditions in to yours. That's all part of becoming a family. Although she is a GF and not an in-law, but if she's serious with the boy, then maybe she'll become an in-law. It will be ok though.

My aunt recently remarried. Her new DH is jewish but this guy is so into Christmas that it's verging on mania. He had the whole house decorated for Christmas on the day after Thanksgiving. He was like a little boy about the Christmas tree. My aunt say's he's always been like this.

Yes John is very lucky she doesnt understand Christmas and asks 90 questions but we tell her what its about and she in return tell us about hers So we are all very lucky that she is understanding and so are her parents.

But seriously I've asked that John's gf share some of the meaning of Hannakuh with us. Christianity is rooted in the Jewish faith and therefore their traditions and rememberences are relevant to our faith. I had an hour or so Q&A session with his gf on the ride back to college last week (poor kid was a captive audience), and we spoke of the meaning of "kosher" (which I was totally ignorant of) and how their communities handled the overwhelming Christian themes during the holiday seasons. The conversation was both enlightening and fascinating.

So while she's extremely excited about being able to celebrate Christmas with us, we're going to take something away from the experience too.
