Jenna's teacher came for a home visit:( - not good news:(
mummy2girls wrote: I didnt think more would be thrown at me but it has:( The teacher came for a visit to tell me how she has progressed being in school and then updated me on how next year will be... She told me Jenna is doing really and had progressed so well , her speech has improved big time!!!!!!!!
now the bad news.... The physical therapist( whos name is jenna as well) has been working with jenna since January. She assessed her just recently since going through the program to see if she has improved since the first assessment. and she said Jenna has poor muscle tone from the waist done( which attributed to her not walking till she was 22 months old) and she may be referred to a physical therapist where she may need more intense therapy. they feel this should not be left untreated. She is gettying treated but only once a week in where they thought thats all she needs but 5 month slater she hasnt improved in that aspect of her intervention.
amymom replied: As much as it is not news you wanted to hear, I am glad they are being proactive and not waiting! So that is good to know. I know she will continue to do well! You have so much on your plate.
mummy2girls replied: i know its not news i wanted I just wished it wasnt like this... I have taken it all in and will do everything to help her but man is it hard to hear! My baby is perfect( as all moms feel abnout thier child) so its hard to hear she is not perfect in alot of ways...

Hang in there - with the proper help she will catch up
mummy2girls replied: I know that... but again its hard to hear all this stuff... She went in to thsio intervention because of her speech she came out with a list full of developmentsal problems... i didnt think it was this severe... so it does come as a big blow!

Kaitlin'smom replied: I know its not what any mom wants to hear espically when they had had so much to deal with already but you know its for the best to help her now rather than later. My oldest sister refused to acknowlage her oldest has foot problems, which could have been taken care of when he was little but she would never admit it, so hugs to you for getting her help.

OK, I'm no PT but my DH is, and I know every case is individual, but I am fairly sure if she hasn't improved in 5 months perhaps it is time for a doctor to reevalulate her or to find a new PT. Do you have a home exercise program for her? If she is only being seen once per week and doing her "homework" and still not progressing then she likely needs a different treatment.
For insurance to reimburse PT's they have to show progress through goals and objectives and if they can't show progress they are supposed to discharge the patient or risk not being reimbursed. I don't know if when they are not reimbursed they can try to collect from the patient (I"d have to ask DH) but I know it's a lot of money, at least her in MI.
I don't say this to add to your stress but I knew pretty much nothing about PT until DH got into it. And of course, it's like any other profession, the great, good, OK, and lousy exist. He gets very frustrated with one of his coworkers whose patients he sees and when they keep doing the same things with no progress it is upsetting to him. He feels it does the patient a complete injustice. But the other guy (and the DH of course) are both very good with people so patients don't often complain because they are being handled well and sometimes they just don't know any better. OH, and the DH has upset patients by discharging them and sending them back to the doc if they aren't getting better, but he feels it is the ethical thing to do.
I hope Jenna gets what she needs soon!
gr33n3y3z replied: Shelly no one is perfect if we were we would be God or whom ever your maker is
And in our own eyes our children are perfect reguardless of little set backs that they may have
mummy2girls replied: no she worked through the school and they only work with the kids once a week because a speech pathologist has to work with her and an occupational therapist as well. They didnt know how severe her delays were as she was being assessed and worked with. you see with Jenna is frustrating because like her speech she will talk and speak the words perfectly fine and the other days not so. so its very inconsistent so thats why its taking longer. so with jenna she can be really clumsy one day and the next not so. Thats why she needs to be referred. so no i dont want to get a new PT because thats not the case. its not that they are not working with her properly but like i said she has other therapy she needs to do and there only so much they can do in a 3 hour span 5 days a week...plus its an early intervention program and each class has around 10 kids and there is more then one class... each child has diff needs
and im in canada so our health and medical is all insured. I dont have to pay the gov does with her program because its gvernment funded. and she wont get discharged. not at all. if they feel she isnt getting enough with one class a week they feel she needs more intestive physical therapy! so thsi is what its all about.. she needs more intestive therapy!
Mommy2BAK replied: Jenna is a beautiful little girl, we all have some sort of set backs in our lives and you guys can't let this one get you down! You are a great mother, so just keep doing what you do and be very supportive of her and encouraging of her to progress and I'm sure all things will come together! Oh~ and don't let anyone overlook the fact that she has progressed very well with her speech! WAY TO GO JENNA!!!
msoulz replied:
That is good news! Once she gets that little extra she will be great and then mom can relax!
luvmykids replied: I know you got hit with a lot at once but it all sounds good to me, as an outsider. At least they're telling you it's something that can improve! Hang in there!
Celestrina replied: I am impressed that the teacher was willing to come to your home; that says a lot. It says that she really cares and she is getting (for the most part) the attention she needs. I have similar problems with Ben so don't hesitate to contact me if you need a shoulder to cry on.
mummy2girls replied: well actually she has to come. all her taecahers and therapy persons have to come once a month for visits....
ZandersMama replied: This too shall pass. She IS a perfect little girl.
amynicole21 replied: Oh wow. Poor Jenna. I think more therapy is a good idea though - couldn't hurt, right? She really is beautiful - love that pic in your siggy
