Izabella has been sent home twice this week with..

Crystalina wrote: ...fevers and a headache. She never ever gets headaches (or gets sick for that matter other then a cold) but on Monday and then again yesterday the school called me saying she had temps of 101.1 and complained of a headache. unsure.gif She just had a UTI the week before last and just finished up her Bactrim (sp) antibiodic this past Monday. When she was sent home Monday I thought maybe it had something to do with the antiboidic but I can't see how it would still be in her system as of yesterday. So yesterday I did what I did on Monday and that was give her an ibuprofin and send her to bed. She woke up feeling fine and fever was gone.
I called her ped because she had to do a follow-up with him anyway d/t the UTI and he wants to see her on Tuesday and he says if she gets another headache and fever before Tuesday to not give her any meds at all but take her directly to the ER. I asked the nurse why and she said the doctor will speak with you on Tuesday. Just take her to the ER and remember no meds. unsure.gif

WTH??? Why can't he tell me why?

So I call my hypochondriac sister (the RN) and she says he may think it's Meningitis and doesn't want to say anything to you over the phone because he doesn't want you to worry until he checks her out.

So then I start Googling and find this:

Tuesday can't get here fast enough. bawling.gif

lisar replied: Crystal quit reading all the crap on line. I done the same thing when Lexi was having the same problem. I drove myself nuts. In the end it was her eyes. She needed glasses. Of all things. I was so HAPPY when I found out thats all it was. And yes Lexi ran a small grade fever never knew why though. Have you thought about making her an eye appt and having them checked just to check those.

lisar replied: Oh and why cant they see you sooner?

Crystalina replied:
I have no clue. I don't question them much because the nurse I deal with is Mennonite and she's mean. emlaugh.gif She scares me a bit. She just one of those women who snap back "Don't question the doctor just do it!", and God forbid you miss an appointment. ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ohmy.gif

My BIL is an eye doc. I'll have him see her. I never thought of that but the fever is what's throwing me off.

lisar replied:
Lexi ran a slight fever. It could be a fever lingering from the UTI she had. Call your BIL and tell him she is having headaches and have him see her ASAP. I called everyone in town till one told me they could see her same day. The dilated her eyes and checked all that and everything and come to find out she couldn't see very well. It was such a relief. Cause I had read that whole meningitis thing when she started with the headaches. It scared the CRAP out of me. And with you being pg and all you dont need this added stress.

mammag replied: Could you call back and just see if you can bring her in for another urinalysis? The doctor wouldn't have to see her for that. Sometimes UTI's can be resistant to certain antibiotics and it could be that it was not fully cleared up. I deal with frequent Kidney infections and that has happened to me more than once.

In the mean time, try not to worry....I know, easier said than done. hug.gif hug.gif

Calimama replied: I bet it's related to the UTI's. I hope you're able to get her in sooner. hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif

Oh and I agree stop reading stuff online. There's a disease for every "symptom".

Nina J replied: If she had meningitis, the doctor would have told you to take her to an ER straight away. I mean, no doctor would let a child go until Tuesday with the possibility of them having meningitis. Plus, I think if she did have it, the symptoms would be constant. Meningitis is serious, I don't think your doctor suspects it or else he would've seen you straight away, because I can't see a doctor waiting for days if he thinks a child's meninges are inflammed..thats nuts.

It's probably nothing, try not to stress. hug.gif

lisar replied: crystal did you get any answers yet? How is she doing today?

Crystalina replied:
She's been fine so far. I talked to my sister and my BIL will be checking their twins' eyes on Sunday night after he closes up the office so I'm just going to meet him then and he'll check her out. It's nice having him in the family he's always so booked up that he just meets us after hours. happy.gif

Hopefully it's nothing more then a few freak headaches/fevers.

Evan had a heck of a fever last night for no reason. I gave him Motrin and when I checked on him at about 3am he was sweating it out. It's that time of year. rolleyes.gif

The headaches scare me though. I can handle fevers.

Crystalina replied:
I'm sure your right. He wouldn't let her continue going to school because isn't that contagious? huh.gif

sparkys2boys replied: hug.gif Hope it's nothing and she's feeling better soon.

A&A'smommy replied: bless her heart let us know

Jamison'smama replied: That is also a virus that goes around here every once in a while and my kids just had it about a month ago. One would get slight fevers, mainly at night and only complained of headaches..then in 2 or 3 days it was gone. Then the other would get it.

Nina J replied:
Viral meningitis is contagious, I think. But I think if a doctor even suspected it he would say bring her in, you wouldn't send a kid to school with it. Plus there are other symptoms, photosensitivity, neck stiffness, etc.

I have known a few people who had suspected meningitis and they have to get cerebrospinal fluid taken from there spine and everything to test for it. I was sck once and my doctor told me to lay on the floor and lift my head up. He said that is a quick way to check for meningitis because usually if you have it, you can't lift your head without bending your knees. It's too painful.

But, I would get it checked out to be on the safe side. I think it might be her eyes or she might just be a little stressed about something, a lot of people get headaches from tension.

Headaches are scary though, especially with your kids. I was scared this year because I had been geting frequent headaches and hot flush type things for a few months, I found out I have hypertension wacko.gif

Danalana replied: Yeah, I wouldn't stress about meningitis hug.gif I'm sure her doctor will get to the bottom of it soon!

Nina J replied: It also might be her antibiotic. I have had antibiotics that say, on the information pamplet, to visit your doctor if you have diarrea or other symptoms, even if it is a few weeks after you stop taking them.

Crystalina replied:
That was what we thought it was at first because this has never happened before her taking the antibiotic. She has not complained of stiff neck or anything but yesterday she came home saying her left ear hurt and the hurt traveled down the left side of her throat. I gave her no meds but had her lay down and she took a two hour nap. My kids NEVER take a nap unless they aren't feeling well. Oy! She's making my head spin. wacko.gif
