I've been having a bad headache... - Please make it go away!

MomToMany wrote: I've had one for a day & a half now. I'm calling the Dr. later. This is just awful. It's a throbbing, pounding one. I've never had migraines before, so I don't know if this is one or not. I don't have any other symptoms, but I did have a slight fever of 100.4* yesterday afternoon. I've only been taking Tylenol, since I don't think anything else is safe. I have a Dr.'s appointment tomorrow at 9 am Central time. I don't want to go in today if I can help it. It would be an hour's drive one-way, plus I would need to bring the 2 smaller kids with me. I don't know if I could handle the driving, so I'm going to see what the Dr. says. I really hope it's not pre-ecclampsia; I had that with my 1st, and was on bed-rest for 3 months.

Any one else want to be PG now?? You can surely have my symptoms!!

amynicole21 replied: Uh Oh!! I really hope it isn't your blood pressure. I'll keep you in my thoughts today!! grouphug.gif Hope you feel better!

supermom replied: Just to ease your mind a little, it's very unusual that you would get pre-eclampsia more than once...and it's usually with first babies. Although it's more likely if they have different dads, but also usually that happens with the first, not the second......

If it's your BP there are safe, relatively inexpensive meds that he can prescribe (BTDT!) - and I hope that it goes away. Have your DH give you a massage at the base of your skull in the two small indents that you will find there about 2" from the middle of the back of your head. He needs to press fairly hard (you can also do this yourself, but it feels better if someone else does it!). That always helped with my headaches if I couldn't get them to go away.

grouphug.gif and here's hoping that today finds you headache free by the end of it!

jdkjd replied: I always get migraines when pregnant. Apparently medications for migraines are a combination of tylenol and caffeine.

So I drink a half a cup and take some tylenol. Seems to work. The caffeine opens the blood vessels so that the blood can move better. With our blood volume increasing during the pregnancy, sometimes you have to help your body get used to the increased amount of blood.

HTH

Kirstenmumof3 replied: grouphug.gif I used to get bad headaches when I was pregnant. I really sympathise with you they can be just awful. What I usually did was warm up the magic bag and put it on my head (a hot water bottle works just as well). I would leave it there for about 20 min. just sitting on the couch relaxing, it usually worked. I hope you get some relief soon. grouphug.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: I hope you feel better soon!

coasterqueen replied: I suffered from migraines for a long time and since I got vertigo they have seemed to come back with a vengence. Since I'm nursing I only take tylenol, which as you already know doesn't help.

When I had migraines before vertigo I was able to control them with *biofeedback* a program I went to at my local hospital. It's designed to help you rid of the migraine without the use of meds, so it's healthier for you wink.gif

It was really easy to do and rid of them when I was actually at the biofeedback training but when I was sent home to do it myself it was a bit harder. It takes a lot of focus. What it is...put yourself in a very dark room, put on some white noise music (like ocean sounds or something of that nature), then close your eyes and think of a "happy place". Now visualize yourself in that happy place and literally visualize yourself pushing that headache right out of your head.

I know this sounds REALLY weird and you may think I am a freak, but it really worked. I had seen so many specialists for my migraines and the meds were horrible. This biofeedback really helped at the time. It is not helping so much with my vertigo, because when I close my eyes the room spins, lol.

Maybe these relaxation techniques might help if the doc doesn't have an answer for you.

DansMom replied: I hope it's just a bad headache and not anything more serious. I had the blood-volume type headache a couple of times when pregnant, and I can testify too that a half cup of coffee helped enormously with that kind of headache. Keep us posted. grouphug.gif

MomToMany replied: I tried calling the Dr., but he's in surgery all day today. I'll just have to wait until tomorrow's appointment.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll definitely try them!

Schnoogly replied: I also had success with a cold pack on the back of my neck. I've had migraines for years, but haven't had one lately knock on wood! And didn't have them while PG.

I agree with the caffeine though--it does tend to help any headaches I have.

With the slight temp though, maybe sinus infection? That always does it to me---bad headaches.

You don't maybe have a friend who can drive you or at least watch the kiddos?

CantWait replied: Hope everything goes well at the doctors and you're feeling better soon. Hugs to ya grouphug.gif

MomToMany replied:
No, unfortunately. My appointment is only 1o minutes away tomorrow. He comes up to the clinic up here from Grand Rapids, so it won't be so bad. My mom will probably be at work tomorrow at that time, so I'm hoping she will be able to watch the two little ones while I'm at my appt. Our medical center is an all-in-one; there's the clinic, hospital, nursing home, dental office all in one building. My mom works as an occupational therapist for the nursing home residents and the hospital patients, too, if needed.

I don't have any friends around here. It gets pretty lonely at times!

mckayleesmom replied: Molly,,,once I get a car....one of these days I will come up and visit you. I don't think I live that far away...I have a friend that just got stationed there a while back,,,her dh and mine are both recruiters...but I think they took the recruiting station out of the mall there now...You are in Minnesota right?

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I'm so sorry. It is such a headache to have a headache. wink.gif I have had one since before I found out I was pg...everyday!! I do get migraines, but I think it is just allergies now. I take Tylenol every four hours so it will build up in my system (and still get NO relief) I also take Tylenol PM so I can rest. My doctor says it is okay. It contains benadryl so that helps with the allergies.

HTH! Sorry you are feeling so bad! I hope it isn't preeclampsia!! You are in my thoughts!

MommyToAshley replied: <<<<HUGS>>>>

I am so sorry you have this headache! I don't have any other advice, I just wanted to say that I hope you are feeling better. Please let us know what the Doc says.. I'll be thinking about you until you do!

MomToMany replied:
I sure am! That would be great if you could! I live about an hour's drive north of Grand Rapids. It would be easy enough to get here; go from one highway to the next. No county or dirt roads, at least laugh.gif !

I am feeling MUCH better this morning, probably because I know I'm going to the Dr.! But I will let everyone know how the appointment goes.

Thanks everyone!
