It is so cold here!
cameragirl21 wrote: OMG, you guys, it is 45 degrees here right now! When I woke up it was 39 degrees outside. I know that these are normal temps for this time of year for many of you but for us it's like an arctic freeze! Our farmers are in trouble and may lose their entire season if this continues and that concerns me. I am enjoying the cold somewhat but don't have warm enough clothes to go out and about in this weather so now I have to go to the store. I have a coat but no pants...I'm not sure what happened to the pants I wore when I was in Philadelphia in November of 07 but all of my pants are too warm weathery and I'm looking for something I can go for a walk on the beach in...the beach is freezing now, colder than everywhere else! I know I'm babbling but seriously, this weather has all of us "snowed in" so to speak, everyone's televisions are on from what I can see out my window and that is a rare sight on a saturday afternoon. Few are brave enough to step out now...hope they sell warm sweat pants at the store here, Idk if we've ever had a need for them before. Anyway, hope everyone is having a good day and staying warm!
MoonMama replied: One of my best friends lives in Miami and she had been calling me the last few days (about 4 time today alone) to whine about the weather.
Hope you warm up soon and all the farmers crops are ok!
PrairieMom replied: I do feel so bad for the farmers. I really hope their crop isn't lost. As for the people in general tho, BUCK UP!!! LOL. Up here it has been -35 wind chill for days. Frost bite will set in in 6 minutes if you go outside. that is DANG cold. 45 would feel like heaven. just remember this when you are melting in the summer time. I can't wait till spring.
luvmykids replied: I went outside yesterday when it had warmed up to the 30's after our cold snap and thought "Wow, it's warm today!". Then I thought "I sound like Tara"
moped replied:
I hate the cold.....
PrairieMom replied: I was just walking out of church this morning and said Wow! It sure is nice out today! Its 7 degrees. We just had a group of 5 kids ride their bikes past our house in full winter gear.
cameragirl21 replied: It's 43 degrees here now, it was 37 when I woke up this morning...I passed by Coconut Grove last night (my old neighborhood before I became a high rise dweller, lol) where there is tons of night life and the streets were virtually empty, this cold shuts us down completely, wouldn't surprise me if schools closed because of it. Managed to get two comfy pairs of sweat pants so I can go outside...I can't stand not to be outside for too long. So, Tara, you guys don't go outside to hang out when it gets cold enough for frostbite? Don't you get cabin fever? Still worried for our farmers, I see this will continue at least until Wednesday....
PrairieMom replied: yeah, we get cabin fever pretty bad. When it is that cold we don't even venture out to the grocery store or anything. Until this morning it had been 3 days or so since I even set foot out of my door. Today at 8 degrees we will throw the kids out into the back yard tho. really, there isn't much to do outdoors here until spring, we have a ski hill, but when you can get frost bite in 6 minutes, who wants to go out and ski? When the thaw comes and the weather warms up into the 30's and 40's we all start to venture out. our neighborhood looks like a bunch of pale Moles, all squinty from lack of sunlight. It isn't uncommon to not see your neighbors from November till march around here. I think there are pics of my snow on Face book.
Just our of curiosity, why would the schools close for 40 degree weather? do you not have heaters in your cars? you won't die in 40 degrees.
cameragirl21 replied: I'll have to check those pics out on facebook, haven't been on there in a while. Idk for sure about school but it's possible there is no heating, many homes here have no heating. Also, Idk what our kids would do at recess but for sure they won't be playing outside in this weather. We are outdoors people here, we don't know what to do when it's not possible to go outside...we can brave 90+ temps, that we are used to but when it gets under 60 degrees, we are a bit lost. I can tell you for sure if schools here aren't heated, they won't have students in school in 40 degree temps, I mean, I guess for sure is the wrong way to say it but I doubt very much there would be school in these temps...also, our school uniforms are usually shorts or a very short skirt and a polo shirt, the warmest thing I've ever seen on any uni is a light cardigan. I was walking thru downtown on Friday and it felt like I was in NYC, everyone in hats, gloves, scarves, coats, etc. If not for the palm trees everywhere, it would be a scene right out of NYC or Philly. I don't mind it now that I have some warm clothes but remember that I'm from the midwest...for those that were born here, they really find themselves lost when it gets a little cold.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I said the same thing last Sunday when it was 10 above. It felt pretty nice after 12 below! It's nice today... 24 degrees right now!
amymom replied: Jennifer! Recess Oh My. Our kids will go out for recess as long as the temp (AND wind chill) is above zero. Below and they stay inside. Zero is our cut off. I know some schools up here the cut off is 10 degrees, and some of our teachers keep them in here at 10 degrees too. But shoot 40 degrees would be a thaw here. Can't really have that now, what with all the ice fishing.
cameragirl21 replied: I did the same as a kid in Ohio, Anne Marie, but I owned a winter coat, snow boots, etc...here, kids have more bathing suits than sweaters, for the most part. I went looking for something suitable to wear yesterday and let's just say I wasn't the only one seeking warm enough clothes! Lol, in my building many people have dogs, both big dogs and little toy dogs and they are all wearing sweaters when their owners take them outside for a walk! Cold is just not something we're used to, outside of ski trips, which nearly everyone here does, lol.
amymom replied: It's all relative to what we are used to! Isn't it? lol
Danalana replied: Kinda makes you think global warming is ending (I know ending isn't the right word)...this has been a freakish winter, so far. A friend of mine, who lives in Mexico, was playing in snow the other day...he had never seen snow before!
Nina J replied: Well we are on the other end of the spectrum. A forecast high of 42 degree's celcius today. Around 109 fahrenheit.
I woke up sweating. We've already been to the pool but are spending today inside. We might head to the beach in the late afternoon. The sun is just too hot today for a complete beach day.
Cece00 replied: Yeah, well, it was like 20 here in LA last night. And its been in the 20's-40's this week and will be next week. Thats just not right!!!
I hate winter.
DVFlyer replied: You need a Snuggy!!!
