Is this true?

Danalana wrote: I have heard of women drinking something sugary or caffeinated before an ultrasound, because it supposedly makes the baby more active. Does anybody know if it's true, or just an old wive's tale? And if it IS true, does it make enough of a difference to even bother with? I'm thinking of trying it if it works. Not that my baby needs to be more active, but you know... emlaugh.gif

moped replied: I do not know that one!!!!

stella6979 replied: I tried to avoid the sugary stuff when I was pregnant, but if you want the baby to be active, just do some jumping jacks or jog around a bit. That's what they had me do at my ultrasound cause my little one had her legs closed.

Danalana replied: LOL! That'll be my luck...

Kaitlin'smom replied: I was told this by someone who does U/S before I went for one, so I has some sprite and I dunno if it really worked or not but she was active and was easy to tell. I say try it.

Mommy2BAK replied: Well I drank a huge Dr. Pepper right before my ultrasound and they had no problems being able to see between the legs because he was squirming all around the whole time. I think it's worth a try if you're desperate to find out the sex. smile.gif

Danalana replied: Well, not desperate, exactly. But I want to find out soon biggrin.gif

PrairieMom replied: I had a hersheys candy bar before mine, and We had no problem seeing . I don't know if its an old wives tale or not, but its worth a shot. What could it hurt?

Mommy2Isabella replied: I don't do sugar or Soda ... but I did orange juice both times ... and both times we had no trouble ... smile.gif

luvbug00 replied: Orange juice. not caffiene was what i was told.

Danalana replied: hmmmmmm...orange juice. Okay!

Cece00 replied: Orange juice is fine, but it should be mentioned that is has about 29g+ of sugar per serving (depending on the type of OJ, I'm sure some have a little less, I saw one that was 24g). A coke has about 39 g of sugar per serving.

So OJ is not that much better than a soft drink, and is most certainly a "sugary" drink. Its a "natural sugar" but its sugar, and full of calories, none the less. (In fact, OJ has about 120 calories, a coke about 140).

So really, if you want to do a soda, it would be fine. OJ would be equally fine. You can also eat a meal before going, that raises your sugar levels also.

DillsMommy replied: I drank a capri sun before mine...it worked!

Calimama replied: I did ice cold water. thumb.gif

lisar replied: I did the whole orange juice thing when they found all the problems with Raygen while she was in. My DR said to go and drink some and when she didnt react to it is when they decided to take her out.

moped replied:
WOW really?

Sam & Abby's Mom replied: With both I drank a soda and ate a piece of chocolate. Had no problem with either one. Good luck !

lovemy2 replied: There were times when the baby wasn't moving too much - or in my head I didn't think the baby was moving much so I would drink some koolaid or have a sugary snack - but I was careful not to do it too often tongue.gif

Danalana replied: I think we might eat on the way, since I have to go directly to work. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Farelle replied: I think I do remember that from when I was pregnant, like drinking some OJ or something. Wait, I think they said to do that when you don't feel the baby move for a certain amount of time, yeah that was it...but it would prpb work for getting him? her? kicking for your US!

Have fun!! One of mine was doing somersaults at my US - ha ha! good thing he was still real little, that would have hurt!! blink.gif

Danalana replied: Hehe, mine was jumping and turning upside down at 10 1/2 weeks (they did a quick abdominal u/s to get a heart rate)...at 14 weeks, baby was propelling backwards and turning over, but we couldn't really get a look at the gender parts. I'll live if we don't find out Saturday. I'm having the big u/s at my OB's on the 26th, and I'll be almost 19 weeks. Either way, we should know before long.

Crystalina replied: My doc told me to drink a Mt. Dew. He did not reccomend me to drink it alot but before and US I could and if I ever got nervous (and I did!) about the babys not moving around. He said, "Have a Dew and some chocolate and they'll be moving within a few minutes. He said that he did not reccomend me using "being worried" as an excuse to abuse the chocolate or Dew. emlaugh.gif

msoulz replied: When I had an ultrasound with my second, she was a lazy girl and would not move so they had me walk around. When that did not work they gave me a lollipop to eat so the sugar might wake her up a bit. So I guess it must be true!

I don't recall her bouncing around or anything but the tech did get what she needed after the lollipop.

indywndy_04 replied: It is true, I drank Orange Juice before my ultrasound at 16 weeks so that the baby would kick around his legs so we can get a peak at what we were going to have. smile.gif It gives them a sugar joilt to get them moving around so you can see better. smile.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Actually I was told NOT to drink anything sugary, cafeinated etc, because if the baby moves around too much during the ultrasound, they can't get all the measurements.

dunno.gif

moped replied: I thought you were jsut supposed to drink the required amount of water..........I am so out of the loop!

gr33n3y3z replied: Its Apple Juice wink.gif
