Is this too personal? - Birth control
Bamamom wrote: We aren't using any. I'm bf and the dr warned me I could still get pregnant. Did any of you just take your chances? If so did you get pregnant again soon? How soon? We want another baby and wouldn't mind getting pregnant but if I had my druthers it would be 6-8 months from now. Any advice?
1lilpeanut2love replied: CONDOMS- CONDOMS- AND MORE CONDOMS!! If you got pregnant, would u be able to handle them both?? They would be VERY close in age!!
MyLuvBugs replied: We definately DID NOT want to chance getting PG again right after Lorelei was born, so we went back to condoms. I don't know if I would feel comfortable just chancing it right away. But that's just me.
Bamamom replied: We've tried condoms and they are just so uncomfortable - for me believe it or not. I lubricate everything very well but they still hurt. And it's got to be the condoms because it doesn't hurt other wise. It's like they catch something and pull - sorry probably tmi
luvbug00 replied: we use the yank anchor method and it's been pretty good up until a year ago ( got preg 2 times but lost both.. my message it was not the right time, i believe)
but it had worked for 5 years until then...
luvmykids replied: ummm... do I want to know what the yank anchor method is?
ETA: Nevermind, I got it!
1lilpeanut2love replied: the "pull out" method LOL
u r 2 funny monica
Bamamom replied: My plan had been to count days - but no period, no days. So I'm at a loss. Maybe the yank anchor idea is the way to go. Have to see if DH is agreeable
1lilpeanut2love replied: Maybe u should check with ur doctor for any other method!??!?! HTH
mckayleesmom replied: I vote against the pull out method......That is how my son came about ...Although I was still really excited when he was on his way....but your baby is awfully young and if you really want to prevent it for 6-8 months...I don't reccomend that...maybe you can go on the mini pill.
Bee_Kay replied: After my Dh and I had our daughter, I was on BCP. I didn't like them, so I went off of them..... both of us knew very well we could get pregnant.
We were ready for another baby, even though they would be close in age. So, we were just like "If we do, we do" type thing. AND WE DID! LOL
Ty came 18 months later
Bamamom replied: I discussed the pill with my dr and he said that it could affect my bm supply. I don't want to take any chances with that.
How close in age are your children? How long did you guys wait to get pregnant with the second one?
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: We use condoms and the pull out method. I got PG with my second when Wil was about 13 months old. Sooner than I would have planned, but it just goes to show anything can happen if you're not using protection regularly. I would say buy a large bottle of KY, because condoms shouldn't hurt. Or talk to your doctor to see if there is another problem as to why it hurts for you.
holley79 replied: We used this method also. Doesn't work well when you are in New Orleans and both are intoxicated. Wouldn't change having Annika though.
If we ever "do it" again we will use condoms until I am done BF.
mckayleesmom replied: The mini pill is made for breastfeeding mothers
MyLuvBugs replied: I had to ask my husband what it was lol
I would ask my Dr. if condoms hurt that bad. There's also other methods that might work for you too. Also, if you're in real pain, try some different positions to see if that might help. Sorry if that's a TMI?
Lynda836 replied: I'm using the mini pill...it's fine for breast feeding, hasn't affected my milk supply at all. I've only had two problems...remembering to take it (severe mommy brain)...you have to make sure you take it at the same time every day. And second, having the energy and the time to actually have sex
jacobsmama replied: YOu can take the mini pill (micronor) or the depo provera shot that you get every 12 weeks while you are breastfeeding because they are progesterone only and there fore won't mess up your milk supply
redchief replied: I can't stop chuckling at "the yank anchor method." I never heard it described that way.
Yanking anchor is a good way to make new sea men. <--- Oh lord Ed, that was awful.
I agree with the other moms here. If you don't want to get pg again, discuss bc with your doc and find something a little more likely to work for you. Good luck!
mommymonster replied: I had gotten pregnant with my second child while bf and I was not on any pill, my daughter was only 5 months old when I found out!
shelbysmom replied: I understand about the condoms hurting. I found that the Durex Extra Sensetive is the best, I don't even feel that is there. I am also considering the Merida IUD. I was going to get it and found out my insurance wouldn't cover it. Now we have a new insurance and I going to try again. Good Luck
MyLuvBugs replied: My DH said it should be called "Grib it and Rip it" instead. lol Sorry, I just had to share.....
Bamamom replied: You guys crack me up Thanks for the advice. I think we'll try another kind of condom and see if that helps.
luvbug00 replied: Sorry guys i couldn't think of what else to call it...
Mommy2Isabella replied: The Yank Anchor method has me CRACKING UP! LOL ...
Sal and I used the BC .. and I wasn't supposed to be able to get pregnant .. AND HERE I AM AT 19 WEEKS AND SOME ODD DAYS! SO, If it is meant to happen ... it is bound to happen ... but prevention is a good way to try and prevent.
I thought you couldn't take any birth control while BF ... I guess that is where my knowledge hasn't reached yet ... hence IM STILL PREGNANT and you can't get pg with pg ...
luvmykids replied: Thanks Ed, you just made coffee come out my nose.
Bamamom replied: My doc recommended against the pill, and I guess it was the mini-pill cause he said it was progesterone only, because of the risk of decreased milk supply. I think otherwise it's safe. I'm sure it doesn't always hurt the supply but I'm just not willing to chance it.
Of course the chances of getting pregnant are minimal - there's never time, energy, or privacy.
