Is this legal?
Calimama wrote: Last month a charity called asking for money, they are a legit charity so we donated $85 dollars. This month they deducted ANOTHER $85 using the debit card number we gave them to use last time. We called the bank and the bank says they can't dispute it because it was a legit transaction. We did not under ANY circumstances give them permission to take out money this month. They saved the debit card information and re-used it with our knowledge. Is this legal?? I'm so frustrated.
cameragirl21 replied: absolutely not! ask to speak to the manager of the bank and call the charity! if the charity is legit they'll refund your money right away. ps, never give out your debit card number...always make your payments over the phone or online via credit card, preferably one like AE or Discover that will refund your money no questions asked.
gr33n3y3z replied: No its not
Contact the charity and make sure this isnt a monthly withdrawl bc you only ok'd a one time deal and let them know they took out money again.
Calimama replied: DH has called and they said I need to call my bank and have them file a dispute because they can't do anything. I'm calling now.. and I'm not as nice as my DH. My next step is to call the bank manager, we've talked to the bank but not a manager.
Calimama replied: She yelled at me. She said my husband called and gave permission to take it out, refused to let me talk to a manager, told me I was wrong and that she would not talk to me about it anymore and hung up. What do I do now!?
gr33n3y3z replied: Let your DH deal with it She had no business talking to you that way I would pull my account from that bank and for that charity it would be their last time of getting money
C&K*s Mommie replied: Who is "she"? I mean what is her position?
I would still contact the bank manager over this, you have every right to talk to him/her. If not over the phone, then march right up there and talk to them face to face.
mummy2girls replied: Talk to the charity! And then warn them if you see another transaction then you will report them. That is wrong and that is not legal. talk to the bank manager as well and tell them it was not a legit transaction and that if they try to stop them somehow... GRRR
TheOaf66 replied: get a copy of the transaction on your statement
take that to your bank and ask to see the manager, if they ask what it is regarding state that there is a transaction error
tell the manager the person you spoke to on the phone. There is a stop pay feature you can use for online transactions that you have to fill out and it will stop that particular company from drawing out any more money...but tell the manager how you were treated and the employee who did not help in any way
Call the charity and tell them YES there is something they can do...they have to have an accounting dept or someone who is taking out this money, talk to them and tell them to stop or threaten legal action.
luvmykids replied: Yeah, they can do something, like issue a REFUND
Don't take no for an answer, from them or the bank.
kimberley replied: this has happened to me before. bank can only stop future payments from coming out. you have to go after the charity for a refund and good luck getting one.
Crystalina replied: She yelled at you? How unproffesional! Even if you were a crazy lunatic (not saying you were ) she should have kept her cool until the conversation was over.
Do as The Oaff man says and get your statement and go in. Finish what they started because "they" do stuff like this all the time. I just had a similiar experience with an online transaction. It really bites my butt.
cameragirl21 replied: yes there is IS something the charity can do. and the bank cannot preclude you from talking to their manager. that charity doesn't sound legit and that bank doesn't sound like they value your business.
CantWait replied: She can't stop you from speaking with the manager. Call her back, don't explain NOTHING and demand to speak with the manager. Then when you get through to the manager make sure you not only tell her your problem, but let her know how her employee is treating you.
It does sound like there was a misunderstanding when you talked to the charity initially though. Instead of a one time payment, they probably meant monthly.
Cece00 replied: I'd go down there, DEMAND to talk to a manager immediately, get this taken care of, and then immediately close my acct.
