Imaginary Friends??
jacobsmama wrote: So about 3 weeks ago Jacob went with my Mom to a basketball game (which he has done before) but this time he came home obsessing about the Tiger mascot that he saw and saying DEFENSE! all the time. Anyway...He keeps saying mom the tiger is home! or the tiger is here or in there! and I'm like where???? and he will point like he really sees something....
Is this normal?
I mean he will say go lay down tiger! Go home tiger! and he growls at it and tells me too and says sometimes he is scared of it....
I don't know if I should pretend with him? Or if I should say there is not tiger? My mom did say they took him over to the tiger and he was going to hug him but then cried and said he didn't want too but from a distance he was fine..
Do any of your kids have imaginary friends or talk to things like this? (I don't think I would care but it has been going on for a few weeks now KWIM?)
CAMSMOM1 replied: That is to cute & funny Kristi! Jacob is such a character! Growling at the tiger and telling him to go home!
Sorry to laugh, but kids just crack me up! I don't think you should be worried about it. A lot of kids have imaginary friends. I think it's just a phase, and he's still hyped up over the Tiger, cause he was so cool.
Just like kids imitate chartoon characters, and mimic them. I think this is kinda the same thing. They just fall in love with a character, person, mascot... ....and they are just having imaginary play. Kinda like us girls would do with our Barbies. KWIM?
I'm sure soon Cam will be doing the same thing.
Crystalina replied: Izabella had an imaginary friend for about 4 months. Hers was 'Invisible Girl' she started whith her about the time The Incredibles came out but she said her Ivisible Girl was pretty like a princess. I had to even set a place for her when we ate. If we were in the car she would always talk to her and at night she talked to her while she was in bed. I would tell her to be quiet and she would say "It's not me, it's Insible Girl."
One day I asked her where Invisible Girl was at because I noticed that she hasn't been around and all Izabella said was "MOM!" I think she was embarresed about it and she hasn't brought her up again.
Nothing to worry about I'm sure.
luvbug00 replied: Hee tiger! that's soo cute!
Mya has "mario" he pops up every once and a while. I believe it's my grandfather because like I have mentioned before she has called him Hintz which is my grandfathers name and we NEVER have called him by his first name, and he died long before she was born .
jacobsmama replied: Thanks for all the reassurance I was kinda freaking when he talks to it! haha
CosmetologyMommy replied: I had one when I was little named Jamie. I think she left when I started kindergarten.
beautifulkids replied: This may sound crazy and I'm not nuts, but I believe that kids can see things that we can't, if you know what I mean. I don't think the tiger is what I am thinking, but I do believe that in many cases, chidren are seeing things that we aren't open enough to see. I know I can hear the laughs, but I believe that family and friends that are no longer living, are always with us. I believe in angels and spirits. In fact, a few years ago my frinds sister was driving down to visit a family member on Christams eve and there is this turn that has no gaurd rails (which caused a law suit) and her and her three year old son flew off the cliff and landed on the beach. Her sister died, but her three year old lived and he said that the woman in white helped him. He repeated that this woman with wings helped him, but she didn't talk. It caused a big thing on the news and a lot of people were inspired by this. I'm not saying that all imaginary friend are angels or spiris are ghosts, some times they are just fun for the child, but other times, it maybe someone you've known. I may sound crazy, but if you talk about the child's imaginary friend with them, you maybe surprised with the detail they give you and they may say things that you thought there was no way they would've known. Anyway everyone believes in something different, but most of us believe in God and comes with God is Godly creations and wonders.
Nina J replied: Emily has had a few. She'd talk to them, and sometimes I'd ask where they were and she'd say "gone now". She doesn't have one at the moment, her last one was called Bill, and she told us that he had grey hair and was tall. Freaky thing is Chris had an Uncle called Bill, who had grey hair and was unusually tall, he died 4 months before Emily was born. I got so freaked out, it was about 2 months ago.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: It's totally normal.
Maddie had an imaginary friend who was a horse. her name was zoe. I say 'was' b/c it dawned on me after reading this that she hasn't talked about her in a few months. not sure what happened there b/c there for several years it was 'zoe this and zoe that'.
i guess it's just another sign that she is growing up
i'd say that jacob has a great imagination thats a good thing!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: That explains a lot. Maddie started kinder this year. i guess she has found other ways to show her creativity.
BAC'sMom replied: It's perfectly normal! Both my older two had them! DS#1 had a two kids and a dog at one time. My DD had a playmate that she talked to. Heck I had one when I was little, her name was Becky. Just goes to show they have a great imagination and they will grow out it in no time.
mckayleesmom replied: Do flys count? Mckaylee always says "go home fly" or "shoe fly" and waves her little arms.......I have not seen a fly in about a year....So I think they are in her head.
