Im really glad that

mckayleesmom wrote: I live on post housing right now....All we pay is phone and cable and they pay for water, gas, electric...if prices go up...we will be ok. This just sucks.

gr33n3y3z replied: yes the prices off base are going to be bad

mckayleesmom replied: I know...we almost lived off base too and Im really glad we didn't

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: No doubt about it. Those in colder climates are going to pay out the nose this winter.

moped replied: We signed on with a company that set our monthly payments forever.......about 1 year ago and now this - what a great thing we did that!!!!!!

~Roo'sMama~ replied: Wow you're lucky. Dh has already been warning me that we aren't going to be able to keep the house very toasty this winter... He wants me to keep the thermostat at lik 65 degrees. Brrr!!! ohmy.gif

MomToMany replied: Luckily we use wood as our primary heat. Or we would be in real trouble.

MyBlueEyedBabies replied:
I don't think my thermostat has ever been above 62

luvbug00 replied: WOW you guys live in iceland! emlaugh.gif I die if the therm. is under 78. blink.gif

amymom replied: We have a big old house. And I already told my MIL that we will close off part of the house. She is NOT happy about that, but it will have to be done. And .... it is very easy to do there are doors at the bottom and top of two of the stair cases, and a door at the top only of the other stair case. Closing them off for periods of time when that section of the house will not be used will make a difference. My MIL is insisting that if we keep it even heat (72 degrees) all day it will save fuel, because it won't need to heat up after it cools down. Last winter we were down to 35 below (F) some days and our bills were over $400 a month just for heating. Ridiculous!!!! I am so afraid to see this winter's bills.

mckayleesmom replied: Is that her part of the house or something?

amymom replied:
No we all live in the house. She has her bedroom downstairs and we are upstairs. We have a family room upstairs and our bedrooms are upstairs. The living room, kitchen and DR are down on the first floor. You can see a picture of it if you click on my screen name. It's just big and old and can be drafty.

My MIL thinks that if you keep it at one temp all day that is cheaper than leting it cool off and then reheating. There may be some truth to that in the main living area, but I will, this winter stop the kids from using the back stair case and close that off. My MIL thinks it won't save anything. I didn't do any changes last winter because it was our first winter since we moved into the house. She has lived here for 58 years. Maybe she does know right But gas hasn't been this expensive ever. ... anyway didn't mean to steal a thread. I am worried about affording the rise in heating costs.

mckayleesmom replied: pretty house...I like it...but it would be an arm and leg to heat.

amymom replied:
Thanks. We like it.

gr33n3y3z replied: The only time we have problems is if the sun doesnt shine other then that the heat doesnt come on that much during the day bc the sun hits all parts of the house during the day so were kind of lucky
