I'm ready to bash my head against a wall....
Boys r us wrote: We bought a new bedroom suite for our new house that we're building and when we met with the representative from the manufaturer, he said that shipping from from their plant in California to my home in Virginia would run about 800.00. Well, we wanted the bed and were unable to find anything remotely close to the look we were wanting locally..so..we were okay with Paying $800; so we ordered the furniture. Okay so the furniture rep from this company calls me the other day and says the furniture is all ready to be picked up for delivery. I'm like..uhmm..okay..so deliver it! Well then he starts in about how we need to arrange for shipping and I feel my blood pressure start rising..but whatever..we have a freight company that we use to deliver rolls of carpet to us when we buy it direct for the investment homes we do. So I gave them a call and gave them the weight of everything (which is..sit down...3,722 pounds..LOL ) and they got back to me today with a quote of...better sit down again...$3,593!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT????????? OMG...suddenly this furniture that was already a heck of a lot more than we'd planned on spending on a bedroom set is looking a lot less appealing when it costs almost $4,000 more b/c of shipping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So..I've been dealing all day with other freight companies trying to get quotes and it's making me nuts! N-U-T-S!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've got it down to 2,100...but I would still like to get it down lower..anyone ever have to ship any freight before? Any good reliable cheap companies. Where I'm running into issues with the price getting jacked up so high is going cross country b/c it's involving in most cases two different companies that are inter-lining b/c one doesn't go all of the way coast to coast. ARRRRRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
TheOaf66 replied: wow I would be fumin
mckayleesmom replied: Sorry girly...Would it be any cheaper to drive down to where you bought it....rent a uhaul and drive it back?
That seems like an awful lot for bedding....I would look elsewhere if that were the case.
lovemy2 replied: I am thinking I would return the set and find something else - with gas prices I can't imagine you can get it shipped very cheap - but I was just thinking - what about a train? Sometimes you can do that and its a shared cargo type thing???
My2Beauties replied: I was going to say a train too, I honestly don't know where to tell you to start with that one, but it's worth a try.
Our Lil' Family replied: Yeah, I think I'd be calling that rep that I talked to when I bought the set! If that doesn't work I'd be switching bed sets! Sorry hun, I know you love it though.
DVFlyer replied: Can they ship you a set directly from their manufacturer? They'd be used to shipping and probably have pre-negotiated rates.
luvmykids replied: Ok somewhere there was a GROSS miscommunication...can you speak to the same person that quoted you the $800 and ask why the other rep told you something so different? Did you pay the $800 when you paid for the furniture?
Calimama replied: I would be looking for a new bed set as well. Good luck!
Boys r us replied: DV, they ARE the manufacturer.
and Monica, the rep who told us that said that shipping would be around $800, but after he told me to arrange my own shipping..DH and I played the convo back in our heads and realized he was real slick about it and more or less made it seem that HE arranged shipping when we asked how much it would be but never OUT right said, OH YES we ship...he just alluded to it by usingsneaky choices in wording!
gr33n3y3z replied: Would it be cheaper to go and get it yourself I mean 3 guys take shifts drive stright through I dont know lol Sorry hun it does suck I wish the Company had a ware house in N.C or VA for you man I couldnt imagine paying that much in shipping
Boys r us replied: No..with gas the way it is and hauling a trailer..it would be as much out there and back in gas probably..not to mention lost wages. So...I'm still working on this, I'm not giving up too easily!
MommyToAshley replied: If it were me, that salesperson would have just lost his commission. It's people like him that give all sales reps a bad name.
I know you love it, but no piece of furniture would be worth that hassle or cost in shipping to me.
I'm sorry, I hope you find a way around it and get the furniture you love.
sparkys2boys replied: PLEASE tell me you got that $800 quote on paper???????? OMG, I think I would look for something diffrent to.. KUP
punkeemunkee'smom replied: Oh that sucks! I am sorry. Do you love it $2,100 dollars (over what you already paid) worth?
luvmykids replied: Oh man that would have me so ticked! I'd complain about him.
So I'm taking it they don't stock anything in NC? Or can't ship it to their store in NC and let you get it home from there?
Boys r us replied: that's the bad part monica, we went to high Point Nc to the International furniture market. they don't have a store there..basically this whole little town is dedicated to this market that happens 2x a year..where pretty much every furniture manufacturer in the world comes and sets up a temp show room in one of the 90 some complexes across the city and all the of the reps from the furniture stores come to see what is being offered by the mnfctr and place their orders for the stores. It's not open to the public..however, they do allow developers to get in b/c a lot of times developers furnish their homes that they have for sale and since we are developers, we were able to get tickets to get in and order furniture at discounted rates. So there is no store in NC to go back to...it was a manufacturer of furniture based out of Bell Gardens, CA
And Abbie..lol..I would say yes I like it that much...but then Rick and I went to check the progress of our house tonight and we got to sort of laying off where it all was gonna go..This furniture is MASSIVE..the nightstands weigh almost 400 pounds a piece..lol..anyways, our bedroom is 24 x 22 and this furniture is gonna consume our otherwise huge bedroom!!!!! But I do love it and I did already buy a comforter and paint color to go with this bed. What's a girl to do!?!? Keep on looking for a cheaper rate.
Update is that I have found a place where I place a listing on the website of what type of furniture etc I'm needing delivered and random companies place bids to deliver..got 1 bid already for $1900! So, it's getting better!
luvmykids replied: Aaaah, gotcha. I hope you get it done reasonably; like you said, you already have the comforter
My3LilMonkeys replied: Wow that's some heavy furniture!!! I could never have furniture like that - DH rearranges ours WAY too much and it would be torture for him to not be able to move it around cause he couldn't lift it. I really hope you can find someone who can move it for you cheaper!
jcc64 replied: I was just going to suggest going down to High Point, Nichole, that's so funny! I used to go to High Point market twice a year for my business. So that's where you first saw it? Would they let you buy the floor model? My boss furnished her entire house that way- you can get some INCREDIBLE deals. Market probably just happened- it used to be in April, but it's been creeping up recently b/c now there's another big show out in Vegas too. There are so many furniture places down there- it seems NUTS to ship something that heavy across the country. There's got to be something else you can live with.
luvmykids replied: Aside from the market, isn't that where a lot of the manufacturers are based? My aunt went there and furnished their whole house....it had to have been reasonable to get the stuff to TX because she is CHEAP
Boys r us replied: Jeanne, they used to let you buy "market samples" and it used to be SUCH a GOOD THING!!!! but now, all of the show rooms are bought prior to the show even taking place..so the show in April rolls around(this year is was april 7-13th) and by March...each manuf. has already sold their entire showroom to 1 company! So the deals are hard to come by, you can still get good deals...if you have a way to get in, you can order direct from the companies at the show that don't require their items to be sold by the crate..I mean hey..no matter how much I love something I don't need 50 of them..haa! There are still a lot of stores there and that's the reason we go any other time of the year for the selection...
monica, the town is becoming more like a ghost town b/c so many of the plants are shutting down for cheaper production overseas! There are still tons of furniture stores, but there are only a couple of places that actually produce there. You CAN get good deals, but you've got to be willing to go all of the time..as for this bedroom suite, b/c we got it at the market price, it was significantly cheaper than we could get it or anything of comparable size or quality..so if we scratched this we'd either have to fork out about 10 more thousand for this same sort of bedroom suite at retail price or get something of lesser quality and that's what I loved about this...high class & high quality....but only cost as much as 1 new car, not 2!! HAA..seriously furniture is insanely priced these days!
Danalana replied: Wow, I hope you get something worked out so that you can get what you want!
