I'm on a mission to find a mushroom - Is anyone familiar with them?
Crystalina wrote: I took this picture after a two day rain just because it was neat http://crystalconnell.fotopic.net/p34025466.html it was the only cluster of mushrooms in my yard so they caught my eye. Now they are everywhere and I don't know why or what kind they are. I've been searching but it seems like a needle in a haystack. I have never had mushrooms in my yard before but all of a sudden Im infested. Nothing has changed so why now? If anyone knows what kind of shroom this is or why it may all of a sudden want to call my yard home please let me know.
Jamison'smama replied: From what I understand, there is not much you can do about mushrooms, you mow over them and they eventually go away. We had a few this year when the rain and heat were going strong.
luvmykids replied: We had them at our last house, they always popped up after we irrigated. We just mowed over them like Brenda said.
cameragirl21 replied: LOL! Crystal, I hate to tell you the first thought that entered my mind when I read the title of your thread! Really, you just don't seem like that type....
mom2my2cuties replied: No idea how to help you - but you did a good job on the picture
Crystalina replied: That's funny that you say that. My DH says there are so many of them that he wouldn't be suprised to see Willie Nelson camped out in the yard one morning.
ataylorm replied: Killing the mushrooms may be impossible, the mushrooms actually live under ground and can cover acres or even square miles. Talk about one big fungus!
You might see if they are edible, at least then you could do something with them.
I recommend doing a search on Wikipedia for "Mushrooms". There are several articles about them including edible types, and such.
holley79 replied: The spores have landed all over your yard. We get them also. I think some mushrooms are pretty.
A&A'smommy replied: man you take some amazing pictures!!! I don't know anything about mushroom but those kinds are pretty common around here
Crystalina replied: How can they just be there all of a sudden when they never have been before? I don't get that. I've never even seen a baby mushroom out there. And they are all the same kind of mushroom.
ataylorm replied: "Mushrooms" are just the "flower" of the fungus. The actual fungus lives underground and constantly grows. Last year they may have been in the neighbors yard, this year it has grown. Mushrooms also put off "spores" to help them spread, so you could have been down wind of some from last year. According to Wikipedia, some fungus have been found to grow to over 3 square miles in size. Yours might have started a long ways away, and has just spead underground to you.
Because of their size like this, they are nearly impossible to kill.
Crystalina replied: They are common? ok. I will have to keep looking because I just don't want my yorkies to eat them.
Thanks for the compliment.
Crystalina replied: That explains that.
mom2my2cuties replied: Crystal - He is rarely wrong. (Imagine living with that )
And he's right about the mushrooms. The best thing I would suggest is to make sure you keep them chopped down so your Yorkie's cant eat them
CantWait replied: I was going to mention doing a search for also and seeing if they are edible.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: This is a good site.

C&K*s Mommie replied: Interesting facts from ataylorm.
Great pic, btw!
ashtonsmama replied:
Hmmmm...not sure, but we had some on our corner, that our neighbors KILLED with weed killer.
My3LilMonkeys replied: As for where they came from, have you had a wet year? We hardly ever have mushrooms around here, and after the flooding earlier this year they seem to be everywhere....
I'm not an expert, but those *look* like the mushrooms that grow near my mom's house, which are not poisonous. Better safe than sorry though.
