I'm having fun... - selling things on ebay

KingMom wrote: I know some of you have wondered in the past about using ebay, it is so easy (and fun). I've made over $100 sellings things and just bought Colin 2 pair of Old Navy Jeans with a little of the money! If you've never done it but have thought about, give it a try, it was a lot easier that I thought.

I was so worried about it being difficult I made one of my friends come over and help me list items!

I don't need him to help anymore, was was simpler than I thought wink.gif

OH and BTW - Colin started clapping yesterday and will hold the phone to his ear if you say hello. We also took him for his first haircut, I'll post a pic or two later of that wink.gif

Debra replied: That sounds awesome! I've never sold on eBay before & I doubt I'd have anything anyone wants. Plus I hate going to the post office! lol You've done great, though!

Congrats on Colin clapping! I can't wait to see pictures of his new haircut!

six_kids_at_28 replied: Congrats! I've bought lots of things off ebay..my cell phone, ipod case, kid clothes, etc. LOL

Never sold anything though.....

Can't wait to see the pic biggrin.gif

C&K*s Mommie replied: I love ebay! My DH is big into selling things... I am just happy to look for the best deal, and occasionally buying things. My feedback shows 34- but it feels as though I have bought more than that! wavey.gif BTW... if you do not mind saying so--- what is your ebay id so I can be sure to buy from you?

KingMom replied: My ID is whitbit99, right now there's mainly some Mary Kay. I quit selling it after I had Colin and just want to get rid of it.

MyLuvBugs replied: I've been trying to sell videos, cds, books etc. But no bids. How did you get started? sad.gif

KingMom replied: I just logged in and clicked on sell, it walked me through every thing I needed. to estimate shipping I just looked at what others listed as the shipping rate for similar items and used that rate. If I can help let me know.

MyLuvBugs replied: Yes Please!! smile.gif I've got 38 things on ebay so far, and no one seems to be interested. I feel like I'm doing something wrong. sad.gif Can you offer some advice?
my ID is tripleastinc

mom21kid2dogs replied: Isn't it addicting? I've sold stuff for a couple of years now. I've done really well (better than consignment) and all my stuff is gone at the end of the season~yippee!!

Although it is easy to do, I find it VERY time consuming by the time I wash, press, decide how to divvy it up, photograph and list everything. Of course, O has way too much stuff for every season so we always have loads to sell tongue.gif I love watching my paypal account grow, though. cool.gif

KingMom replied: Looks fine but I did a search for some of the products you are trying to sell and it looks like others are having the same luck, just no bids on it. With my Mary Kay items, I search prior to listing each item to see if it is a good item (any bids). If not, I won't list it and will later sell a LOT of Mary Kay stuff all together to get rid of it.

One big lesson I learned. If you have multiples of one item, don't list them all at the same time b/c if only 3 people are wanting the item and you list 3 of them, then each can bid on different ones and get it for the lowest price since they won't have to bid against each other. Hope that makes sense.

My only suggestion would be to do a search prior to listing to see if it's an item people are bidding on.

Let me know if you have more questions.

MyLuvBugs replied: So you think I should combine some of the items together into a buddle? That might be a good idea. We've got so many darn movies. It's like BlockBuster in our living room. I'm trying to weed out all the duplicates and get rid of the ones we don't watch.

So, once I've put it up for bidding though, can I cancel it and change it around to be a multiple item entry or just delete it completely? The FAQ's aren't as helpful as I'd like and it's so nice to have someone to talk to about it. smile.gif
Thanks!! smile.gif

KingMom replied: I can't find anything about cancelling an auction either although, on MY EBAY, you can use the drop down menu to End Item but I'm not sure waht it will do. It does say you can edit an item as long as it has more than 12 hours left. Sorry I couldn't help more, you may have to email them and ask.

MyLuvBugs replied: NO Whitney you have been VERY helpful. Really!! Hopefully, tomorrow I can take some pictures and combine some of the stuff, and cancel some of the ones that haven't had any views.

mom21kid2dogs replied:
Have you ever tried to sell them on half.com? It's not an auction site but is a subsidiary of EBay. People looking for goods like books, music and movies can go there and view all the listing for a particular item, decide on which they want based on condition, price, etc. Might be worth a try!

MyLuvBugs replied:
I've never heard of that site. I'll have to look into that. smile.gif Thanks!!

moped replied: What sort of things are you selling? I have more clothes for Jack that are like new - would love to make some money

KingMom replied: Right now I am mainly selling Mary Kay makeup that I need to get rid of (used to sell it before Colin was born). Childrens clothes sell very well on ebay. You should put together outfits and put like 3 together and take a picture and list it on ebay. I'm sure it would sell and you would make good money.

moped replied: I would love ot but I have NO idea how to sell - I buy lots but have never sold.......guess I will have to read up!

moped replied: Isn't there a charge if it doesn't sell??? I mean i don't want to sell all my baby gap for $1.00? KWIM?

KingMom replied: If it doesn't sell then I think all you have to pay is the listing fee (which is based on what you set the starting price at). I start most items at .99 and the listing fee is 25 cents. I haven't had anything not sell yet. I've started some things higher before also and it was only 35 cents. You are then charged another fee when the auction is over (if somone won) and that fee is based on how much it sells for (final value fee).

You should give it a try! Baby clothes sell so easy, I'd even be intersted in what you have since Jack is a little older than Colin.

My3LilMonkeys replied: Just a warning for all of you - it sounds like you are mostly selling inexpensive items, so you should be ok. But if you try to sell expensive items (Electronics mostly), watch for people who will ask you to receive payment by an online western union payment and ship out of the country (usually they want it sent to Nigeria). My DH tried to sell his PSP a few weeks ago and had 6-7 of these questions.

They are scams. They will use a false tracking website to make it look like your money is coming so that you ship the item. Once you ship (after paying outrageous S&H), the website disappears and you are stuck with no $.

Just wanted everyone to stay safe out there! Happy selling!

KingMom replied: Thanks for letting me know, we are considering selling our PS2 and a car cd player. i'll make sure we only ship to the US.

Thanks again!
