I'm back from my business trip - more on my job
coasterqueen wrote: Thanks everyone for your kind words. I guess I should be happy I got my usual bonus. I didn't sleep at all last night because I was so upset about that and the other information I received. Glad to finally be home.
The thing about my job is there has been a lot of stink lately and there was some raised by the board at the meeting about being gone at such a time as spring legislative session...but I made it through that whole ordeal. The issue is who is my temporary replacement while I'm gone. My boss is hiring the same gal that temped for the person before me when she was on maternity leave. It's not proven for sure but we believe the two of them had some kind of fling at some point and my co-worker and another past co-worker told me all about her when I started. My boss idolized her. She could do not wrong and he let her do anything she wanted, put her on a pedestal and she had him wrapped around his finger. She also wormed her way into his life by constantly offering to babysit his kids as well as other chores. When the lady before me came back from maternity leave my boss did everything he could to also keep her replacement on and eventually my boss and this woman made the lady before me so miserable that she left. This never bothered me before...although the lady that replacement me on my maternity leave bothered me and made a fear a tiny bit for my job. She was drop dead gorgeous and my boss loved her...but thankfully she didn't stay although my boss tried to get her to.
Anyways....my boss informed me and my coworker yesterday that this same woman that temped before would be doing it for me. I knew at that very moment it was very bad news that he was telling me. He proceeded to tell me that she had lost her job and really needed this income, blah blah blah and how extremely excited he was that she was going to be temping. I swallowed at the thought and this was told to me right after I basically got the news that I was not getting that bonus I felt I should have. I told my boss I had to go to the bathroom because I was going to cry immediately. A few minutes later my co-worker (she's more like a mom to me) came in there to comfort me. She told me that this WAS bad news and that I should really fear for my job. I already knew that when he told us. She told me so many things about this woman and you know what....even if I have a job when I get back....I don't know if I'm strong enough to survive the two of them.
I know this is all "questionable" since it hasn't happened, etc, but if I could explain my boss to you and how he "works" then if you were in my shoes you'd fear for your job as well. I'm not perfect. I could probably do my job better. We all could do the same job differently that's for sure. She's going to nit pick everything I do and I am 100% sure of that and I'm not even going to be there to defend myself. I was told by a few of my boss' buddies last night secretly that they've heard she really wants this job and that she would do anything to get it. This friend of my boss' has become a good friend of mine because even though he's friends w/my boss he knows how he is and has always tried to look out for me. That's why he told me.
So that's the story on my job. I know it may not sound like something you'd worry about but well..I have every reason to. Politics is so dirty, cut-throat and you can't turn your back for a second. Women only get ahead in this business by sleeping their way around...something I will never do. I'm not drop dead gorgeous (sorry I know I'm remotely pretty...but I'm not blonde, blue eyed, size 3, 6 ft gorgeous) and looks get you very far in this city of politics. It stinks, you are right, but that's the way life is I've concluded. I lost a promotion at another job a long time ago because I wouldn't sleep with the boss....I was just conviently told it was for other reasons.
I'm so sick and tired of being a woman in the workforce and having to worry about my job because I was/am pregnant and because I'm a mother. If you do work in the workforce you may have encountered this...if not you are lucky.
I'm starting to wonder why I even care anymore.
smullin replied: I feel for you. My boss is kinda the same way. He would do that kind of thing. I haven't told him yet about me because I am afraid of what he will say. He knows it is illegal to fire me but he would try to make me miserable till I left. I am so sorry you have to go through this.

MomToMany replied: Wow, women like that give women in general a bad name. That is so awful; you're right, you shouldn't have to worry about your job because you are PG/a mother.
I'm so sorry you have to work in such an awful, sleazy place. And its sad that women can only advance if they sleep around.
Lots of prayers and positive thoughts for you Karen!
5littleladies replied: That blows! Your boss needs a swift kick in the rear end. I really hope that things don't turn out the way you are afraid they will. It is unfair that you should have to suffer just because you are pregnant and have a child. People like your boss are morons.
I'll be sending lots of prayers up for you Karen!
kit_kats_mom replied: That really sucks Karen and yes, I know exactly what you mean. My current boss has told a few people that I'm hot (apparently he needs glasses LOL) But he's married with two kids. Pretty much made me lose respect for him immediately. The only saving grace is that I work from home and only have to see him a few times a year.
I hate that sex has anything to do with the way anyone preforms thier job. Drives me nuts.

I'd probalby look for another job while you were on maternity leave just in case. It sure sounds like he's working you out of there.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: First of all, I'm glad you're back.
It all makes perfect sense to me. I would fear my job as well and you have every reason to be upset. I dont' think you are overreacting at all....I think you are very smart in thinking ahead of 'the game.' What a sleaze ball for even thinking of replacing you with 2 kids. He knows you need this job.
amynicole21 replied: Ugh! What a crap situation. The last thing you need to worry about when you are planning for a new baby is whether you'll still have your job when you need it. I'm so sorry your boss is like that. I'd be freaked, too. I wish I had some advice for you. Instead, all I have to offer are hugs
loveydad replied: I'm sorry Karen. I hope it all works out for you! We're all on your side here!
A&A'smommy replied: Oh Karen I'm SO sorry you have to deal with this!! It isn't right and woman like that need/deserve a taste of there own medican and men like that well I wont say what I would like to do to him!!! I hope that doesn't happen to you ((((((BIG HUGS)))))
DansMom replied: This story is so disheartening to me. I had a rough day at work yesterday, but when I hear a story like this I realize how fortunate I am. It's political at times, but nothing like what you describe, maybe because it's a not-for-profit and nobody is here for the pay. I hope things turn out better than you expect, although it sounds like your instincts are right when it comes to this boss
I'm so glad you're back---we really missed you around here!
favre4fan replied: So sorry about all this. What a jerk this guy, its truly sad that you should have to worry about your job like that. I really hope things turn out better.
My2Beauties replied: Karen I am so sorry you have to deal with a sleezeball like that and while you're PG too! It's sad that this day in age women still have to sleep their way up to the top! I am so sorry hun! I am keeping you in my prayers and I hope that everything turns out OK.
