I'm a super freak, super freak, I'm super freaky! - Feminin hygene stuff boys...

PrairieMom wrote: I just found cloth Maxi-pads on etsy.com for a lot cheaper than the ones I had been looking at at other web stores online. They have all kinds with cute patterns. I feel like I'm cloth diaper shopping, only for me!
I'm so excited to get them. laugh.gif You know how I like to pinch a penny. I was all banana2.gif banana2.gif banana2.gif banana2.gif banana2.gif banana2.gif banana2.gif banana2.gif

cameragirl21 replied: good for you, Tara, way to take one for the environment! happy.gif
I don't think I'd like washing those and not to be gross, but I can't imagine, based on my experience with blood stains on undies, that you will be able to wash them to where they look clean, especially after repeated use. Plus, what if you have to change your pad in a public place, where will you keep the soiled one?
Anyway, I'm the queen of tampon use, sorry tmi, and haven't worn pads of any kind in well over a decade (just about my entire life of AF visits) so I can't say this would work for me even if I wanted to go to cloth.
Imagine a cloth tampon...would you want to wash and reuse that? huh.gif laugh.gif

mommy~to~a~bunch replied: thumb.gif Good for you Tara!! I have a bunch I sewed up myself, but haven't been able to use them since I haven't had a period since February of '06!!! I did use some others I had before sewing these ones postpartum after Abby was born though.

PrairieMom replied:
They acutally make sea sponge ones you can reuse, but no i wouldn't want to. laugh.gif
My flow isn't so bad, so I'm not to worried about it. thats one of the reasons I am so pumped to find them cheap, I didn't want to spend $20 on ONE pad to find out I hate them. I got 5 for $25 including shipping. thumb.gif

My3LilMonkeys replied:
I wondered the same thing - you'll have to let us know how it works!

cameragirl21 replied:
My flow is very light also, I usually go through 2 tampons a day and don't require a tampon overnight by the second night. Typically get AF for 2.5-3 days.
Sea sponge reusable tampons? Hmmmm, wouldn't it possibly cause infections and how, I repeat, how would you wash them, I mean, c'mon, blood stains don't come out easily.
I suppose you could use hydrogen peroxide to clean them....

PrairieMom replied:
I have no idea how you would wash those.
I'm sure the pads are cute the first time around then never quite the same again. laugh.gif I will have to see how it goes. laugh.gif

luvbug00 replied: Tara you are a brave soul! lol! I could never do it! kudos to you!

PrairieMom replied:
Just promise me that if I switch from toilet paper to cloth that you will all drive up here and have an intervention. rolling_smile.gif

cameragirl21 replied:
Switching from TP to cloth wouldn't be a big deal at all if you have a bidet. I don't have one and don't use cloth or TP for that matter, I like those wet wipey things. Problem is, you get used to a bidet and then have a hard time if you're in a public restroom where there is no bidet.

Teesa®© replied:
Ooooh! Great idea!! I'd never have thought of that... can you imagine how much money could be saved??!?!?! rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

mommy~to~a~bunch replied:
The kids & I do (most of the time), but DH will NOT! It's annoying as heck, but he'll come around eventually.

moped replied:
You use cloth toilet paper and then wash it?

SO wouldn't that be just as bad because you are accumulating more washing to use more energy and water etc?

mommy~to~a~bunch replied:
No, because I wash them with the diapers. It's not adding any extra loads of laundry for me.

PrairieMom replied:
not enough. dry.gif rolling_smile.gif

moped replied:
SO you really use cloth toilet paper? WOW I am impressed..........

kimberley replied: thumb.gif

holley79 replied:
I could never do that. Kudos for you though.

Tara you are just too much. emlaugh.gif

Crystalina replied:
Ooookay. huh.gif As long as the patterns are really cute though. rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

Do they really have a person who thinks of patterns for those? What a job that would be. emlaugh.gif

A&A'smommy replied: WOW I agree KUDOS to you!!! thumb.gif

lovemy2 replied: Sorry but puke.gif puke.gif puke.gif to the cloth TP and the cloth MP but thumb.gif thumb.gif here's too yah Tara - your doing enough for both of us blush.gif

PrairieMom replied:
its Crystal's fault. She didn't recycle that day and it tipped me right over the edge. laugh.gif

Calimama replied: Oh you brave girl!!!! rolling_smile.gif

whitting713 replied: For you crafty people, they have patterns you can download for free to make your own. After having Morgan, the chemicals in pads really irritate my skin.

luvbug00 replied:

intervine i will!! emlaugh.gif

Crystalina replied:
I'll take the blame Tara. blush.gif blush.gif Why don't you take a picture of one (a clean one of course emlaugh.gif ). I've never seen one before. And I'm really curious about these patterns.

PrairieMom replied: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=s...ing_id=12617560
these are similar, but not the exact ones, every crafter has different ones.

lovemy2 replied:
Well I gotta say - they are kinda cute - unused of course - laugh.gif laugh.gif

PrairieMom replied:
I KNOW!!! Can you see how they would be addicting? like buying pretty underwear. laugh.gif
I can't wait to get mine.
I hope DH doesn't find out, he will probably have me institutionalized. rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

TANNER'S MOM replied: No I have used the instead cup, and it's disposal. I hear they have one that is resuable, I would consider that I guess. But not really pads for me. I guess I just don't have what it takes.

As for cloth TP, is that really sanitary to be touching all the stuff?

Our Lil' Family replied:
That doesn't look very absorbant blink.gif

Crystalina replied:
...and would they be as absorbent the 10th time they were washed as they are the first time you use them?

I don't do pads. Too much messing with things for me. Plus I would feel like I had a diaper on. That would drive me nuts in the summer. blink.gif

PrairieMom replied:
they make them different absorbencies, I don't know what the samples I posted are, but the ones I got are for Med to heavy flow. They apparently have layers of batting, and some leak proof layer or something. I guess I will be having an adventure. I hope I don't have many places to go next month when AF shows up. laugh.gif

MoonMama replied:
Ditto.

momofone replied: I like the snaps on them. Good idea!

3_call_me_mama replied: WTG tara! I have a friend locally that makes mine... and no they dont' stain... they look just as pretty the 2nd 3rd, 4th etc time. LOL
Most of mine are just hand dyed bamboo velour that she sews into her own pattern.. hse actually has an online business that she is in the process of selling(for big bucks too!) but she will still make them for her own use and if anyone local wants them. i have her site if anyone is interested.. they are SO compy, sort and i just toss them in teh diaper laundry or with towels and sparkly clean smile.gif
