If your fav football team hired Michael Vick would - you support them hiring a dogfighter
Celestrina wrote: If you are unfamiliar with Michael Vick, click here. He admitted to the charges and served over a year in jail. Would you find it in your heart to forgive him or would you support another team?
bluebear replied: I wouldn't care. But then again I hate football and I consider it as an over-rated "sport."
This is kind of like asking if you would still listen to ____'s music because of a drug arrest or drunk driving. Talent and personal life are different.
Celestrina replied: I don't think you could compare the two. If someone is arrested for drugs or simply drunk driving nothing else is killed. He actively took part in the torture and repeatedly killing innocent dogs. Not only that, he made money off of it. Here is one of the dogs that were rescued. WARNING: THIS IMAGE IS FRIGHTENING. DO NOT HAVE YOUR KIDS IN THE ROOM WITH YOU IF YOU VIEW IT

jcc64 replied: I'm a hard core dog lover, and I certainly have a healthy dislike of Michael Vick. But I believe he's paid his dues and deserves a second chance.
msoulz replied: ITA. What he did was reprehensible but he did serve his time. He needs to work now like the rest of us.
cameragirl21 replied: No way, imo what he did was unforgivable and there is no such thing imo as a second chance for what he did. jmo of course.
redchief replied: Ahh, but how can you be SURE your dislike is healthy?
luvmykids replied: The thought of dog fighting makes me . The only good thing I can say about Vick is the awareness he's brought to it, but I'm a little disgusted that he was allowed back to the NFL.
Danalana replied: Putting aside my HUGE love for animals in general...gambling is ILLEGAL for players in the NFL. He never should have been allowed back. Of course I believe in second chances, but not when it means disregarding the rules. Now, on to my love for animals. I am absolutely disgusted that a person has the capacity to think of doing these things. There's something really wrong with him and everybody else who does it. OH! And did anybody see when he flipped off his own fans? Sure, they were booing him, but still...no class.
jcc64 replied:
Is it ALL gambling, Dana, or is it just gambling on football games?
lisar replied: I have to say that Michael Vick is a sick, sick, man. What he done to those dogs was uncalled for. He was in on it from day one, not just putting money in it. He knew what was going on there. I have followed this story from day 1. And that man should still be in prison. And he shouldnt be allowed to play football and make millions. I would never support a team he is on.
MommyToAshley replied: I shouldn't have clicked on that link.
cameragirl21 replied: I did not click on that link and there is no way I'm going to, I can only imagine. And ditto to what LisaR said, send the brute right back to prison.
PrairieMom replied: I think that it completely sucks that he is in a job that puts him in the pubic eye and allows him to become a roll model to children. But, that being said, he paid his fines, did his time, and now is legally considered "rehabilitated" or what ever. That is what our legal system is for. Football his his trade, his way to earn a living, and if he legally paid for his crime, than I think he should be allowed to make a living at his trade. It sucks tho, and I sure don't like the guy.
Celestrina replied: According to an article in the New York Times, the NFL forbids its players from engaging in any kind of gambling activity, legal or otherwise. Here is a link to the article, the rule is mentioned in the fourth paragraph:

CantWait replied: People are killed everyday because of drug pushers. Little kids who don't know any better are getting forced into the world of drugs because of dealers, either because they push it so much or fill a kids head with so much bs they don't know right from wrong, so I think it's very comparible.
I would actually forgive Vick more so than a dealer for their actions. I guess it depends on how sorry he is and whether he thinks he actually did wrong or not.
Celestrina replied: Being caught WITH drugs (which is more often the case in a drug arrest) and SELLING drugs are two different things. One you are destroying yourself and the other you are destroying others. Even if he were caught with drugs he would probably have been kicked out.
He was not just caught betting on the animals (as mentioned above gambling is against NFL rules), he started the dogfighting ring, made money off of it, and actively took part in the treatment of the dogs.
CantWait replied: Well I don't see where the statistics are on this, either way the world of drugs is nasty and ruins people's lives regardless of them taking it or selling it. They got it from somewhere. I still find it worse than what Vick did IMHO. Althought I am an avid animal lover I still put a human's life as greater importance than a dog's. Sorry, but MO.
Celestrina replied: As do I. If he were caught with drugs, whether or not he was selling them, he should not be allowed back on the field. I believe the are both against NFL rules as well.
Please do not assume that I put an animal's life above a human's. This thread is about Vick returning to the NFL and his involvement in dogfighting, not about a hypothetical player, drug use, or selling drugs.
Danalana replied: I agree. I don't think anybody here would say that an animal's life is more important than a human's. BUT, the fact that he could cause such injury and pain to animals that don't have as much power as he does, tells me that there is something terribly wrong with him. Besides it being against NFL rules, it's just sick.
