If you won the lottery - what kind of house would you buy?

mckayleesmom wrote: Im thinking something around the 4000 square feet size on a huge chunck of land with a barn...so I can have some kind of farm.

mommy~to~a~bunch replied: Truthfully - not any bigger than we have now, but we'd buy lots & lots of land! We want to expand on our animals too, and get pigs and cows.

PrairieMom replied: Maybe just a titch bigger, and add one more bedroom, but def. nothing bigger than 3000.
We don't have any land, so we would want a bunch of that, enough for a few chickens, and farm cats, a couple cows or so.
I would also like space for a lot bigger garden.

The size of the house wouldn't be what I would change. I would LOVE to make a green house, with a Grey water system, and solar panels, Geo- thermal, and all that stuff. Maybe even a windmill. rolling_smile.gif I would LOVE to be able to be energy independent, or as much as possible.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: Definitely something in the country with a lot of land. The house itself wouldn't have to be huge, but I'd want it to have things ours doesn't have like a finish-able basement, lots of closet and storage space, and more than one bathroom! tongue.gif

stella6979 replied: I would buy a modest 5 bedroom home with a basement, at least 2 bathrooms, out in the country with lots of land and a heated pool! thumb.gif

My2Beauties replied: 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, about 5000 or so sq ft, heated pool with a inground hot tub as well, full very large finished basement, 3 car garage (detached), atleast 5-10 acres of land, extremely modern kitchen with all the amenities, large rooms, and as energy efficient as possible. I would not have any animals except dogs and cats though....can't handle the poop smell! LOL laugh.gif blush.gif

Boys r us replied: I wouldn't change our home here. But I would buy a couple of nice vacation homes....maybe 1 in key west and another in Hawaii b/c the weather is perfect their year round!

Danalana replied: Hehe...I would buy a few houses. Definitely one on the east coast...I'd like one on the outter banks of NC, as well as one in the Northeast. I'd also like a couple in foreign countries. I would love to travel between all of them during the year...3 or 4 months here, 3 or 4 there laugh.gif Seriously, that's my dream!

PrairieMom replied:
Augh! I love love love the outter banks!
I even know where I would buy. Hands down, Ocean isle. Nags head is a close second.
I don't think I would want to live there tho. Maybe a time share or something. I am so scared of hurricanes.

Danalana replied: I love Hatteras Island biggrin.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied: About 2500 sq feet...4 bedrooms, 2 1/2 bath, rec area and a place where Troy can have a workshop, 2-3 car garage, an open concept, nestled on 3-5 acres. I would also buy a vacation condo somewhere down south or out west for when winter hits.

PrairieMom replied:
It was so pretty when we were there. I had a ton of fun, and also on the sand dunes. I was just barely PG with Al the year we went. I would have passed on Kitty hawk tho, they made me walk all the way to the monument and it nearly killed me.

I love the setup they have for the light house out there.

TheOaf66 replied:
don't forget a pole barn for demo car building

40 acres on the river (hunting land and fishing water)

DVFlyer replied: It wouldn't matter as long as it was bigger than Nichole's. wink.gif biggrin.gif

DillsMommy replied: Nothing too big. That's just more to clean. I would love to have a finished basement and a heated pool though.

5littleladies replied: Probably 2,500 sq. ft., 4-5 bedrooms, 2-3 baths on a couple of acres just outside of the town we live in now. A good sized family room, study for Jas, a sun room for me, and a wrap around porch would just about complete the picture. happy.gif

My3LilMonkeys replied: I'd buy a lot of land - well, as much as I could get staying relatively close to where we are now so we are near family and in the school district still. I'd want to build my own home so I could lay it out exactly how I wanted it, but I'd want it on the smaller side - I hate the thought of cleaning a giant house! I'd probably put in a pool, have a large fenced-in part of the yard for the kids/dog to play in without having to worry about them as much. I wouldn't want a full farm, but definitely a few animals - the girls want a goat. emlaugh.gif

Calimama replied: Well DH really wants to have a lot of land but I'm more of a beach person. But to compromise I'd want a modern house on that land. Big windows, pool, and a big kitchen are all that matters.

jcc64 replied: I'd just fix up the house we have, which badly needs it, and add another bathroom somewhere (we only have 1 full bath for 5 people). It's a modest house, but I never feel crowded, and tbh, more space means more to clean.... rolling_smile.gif

lovemy2 replied: Big House, Big Land on BIG WATER laugh.gif

gr33n3y3z replied: I will keep this house
I will buy a house prolly in Clear Water/Tampa area I love the Gulf Coast
I will also buy a house up in the Mountains in Pa almost NY border

Teesa®© replied: I'd build my dream home, but I'd have to win a whole ton of money to be able to build it rolling_smile.gif

I don't know how big it would actually end up being, as I haven't totally planned it out yet. I did a rough sketch in Paint once, but not to scale.

Basically, all the bedrooms would be built in the "basement" so no worrying about tornadoes ripping the top of the house off and my family going helter-skelter across the land. And no worrying about dropping children off the side of a second floor balcony in case of fire. The bedrooms would be built so that they are all equally distanced from the exit to ensure a safe and total get-a-away.

The top half of the house will be built in a "U" shape so it surrounds a nice chunk of backyard. The opening will have a nice sturdy fence closing it off. I want this so that my children [or grandchildren] have a nice, safe place to play. One side of the "U" is going to be a playroom/game room/entertainment room. The other half of the "U" will be the kitchen and dining rooms. The back part of that will be the garage. The joining part of the "U" will be the living room/den and a nice sized closet/storage room for out of season clothes. Basically, just a giant hall closet, lol. There's going to be balcony doors to the backyard from each section of the "U".

Every inside door is going to be a pocket door [slides into the wall] and certain areas will have 1/2 pocket doors that will be basically built-in baby gates.

There's going to be other stuff, but that's the gist of it.

I'm building it to scale now, I'll share it when I'm done.

HuskerMom replied: We wouldn't buy a house we'd build our dream house in the country. 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, basement, BIG kitchen and a wrap around porch. I'd also want some little stuff like a laundry shoot, walk in closet and one of those old fashioned huge sinks. If Dh got what he wanted we'd have several hundred acres, for dirt bikes and stuff. We'd build a gokart track for the kids. Dh would have a big shop for his GTO's, race car and other projects and toys. Dh would probably also build a shooting range. If we got any animals we'd probably just get a couple dogs, a Great Dane for me and a Mastiff for Dh. Yeah I've given this alot of thought. blush.gif

AlexsPajamaMama replied: We'd build our dream house, which is nothing extra special, not a big castle. Room enough for the size family we have/want to have.
I really just want a huge yard.

Brias3 replied: I definitely wouldn't use the money for a house, I'm pretty satisfied with what we have now. I WOULD probably sell our condo in FL though and get something down in the Caribbean instead!! biggrin.gif

The only thing I'd really like is to redo our basement to include some more "adult" type entertainment- i.e. a nice bar, maybe a movie type room with a large screen, etc. Right now, its a nice den area but the ENTIRE rest of it (besides the guest bedroom, bath and storage section) is one giant messy playroom laugh.gif

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: I would get something on the beach. I will be fair and say if I won the lotto I wouldn't be cleaning my own house anymore.... but I do still feel strongly about not needing more just for it to be more. I would probably build and would go eco friendly.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I'm guess I'd actually have to play the lottery first. rolling_smile.gif
