IMPORTANT...Red eye during picture taking.. - A must read..

devinsmommy wrote: I found this on another forum I belong to and I thought I would share it. I found it to be very important since I to am a mother... Please read.

I was in the WIC office today, and saw a poster. Its very alarming to me. Its about a tumor in a babys brain that you can see when taking a picture of your child. When the flash goes off, alot of times you get left with 'red-eye'. If you notice that its white instead of red, you could have a very serious problem. I have noticed this in alot of hannahs pictures, but didnt think anything of it until now. I told the nutritionist this, and she told me to go home immediately and call hannahs ped. so im waiting for a call back now, and Im gonna have hannah tested. Please look at this link.

CCTandME replied: I have never been so happy to have pictures w/ red eyes. Thanks for posting! I've never heard of this.

Boys r us replied: I have never heard of this before and that makes me really angry..something so important, how could my dr not have told me something so simple..why are there no posters up in the dr's office concerning this?

Anyhow..Thank you VERY much for bringing this to the attention of so many people here!!

Boys r us replied: k..now I'm a little worried!
All of the pics I have access to from work..braedon has white specs! I'm not going to flip out though..I AM however going to go home tonight in a dim room and take his picture!

Isabelita replied: That is very interesting...

Red eye in picutres occurs when the the light from the flash hits the back of the retiner (sp?) It is red because of the blood. I think that is more or less right, but someone correct me if I'm wrong.

DansMom replied: I did some googling---looks like this is NOT an urban legend, but the specifics are that if you take a picture in dim lighting, and one eye reflects red while the other reflects white, that's when you get worried that your child might have a retinoblastoma. If both eyes reflect red or both reflect white, it's likely just normal reflective phenomona called "white eye" that is like red eye. There is a picture at this website of the kind of photograph you get worried about:

3_call_me_mama replied: Thank you for alerting us to this.. and thank you tracy for looking more into it...
for once i am grateful for the bright red eyes that always show up in cameorn's pictures... kathleens aren't as red as his but more pink, but both eyes are. But they alsways have the eye screening at the dr;s too.

chloe&tysmommy replied: Oh my that is so scary! I have never heard of this. Thank-you guys for the info!

DVFlyer replied: Nichole,

I don't believe that is what you're seeing. What you see in that picture is the reflection of the flash or other light in the room reflecting off the cornea.

PanthersGirl replied: I don't think this is an effective way to tell this now a days....

A lot of cameras have a special light to KEEP from eyes showing red.

And yes i agree with D...That looks like the flash in his eyes.

3xsthefun replied: I didn't know that either. Thanks for the info!

iluvmysweetiepies replied: TFS, I never knew that! unsure.gif
