I was expecting a commotion here about the ER - reference to extended BF'ding

MomToMany replied: I saw it. I was a little ticked at the comments & looks.
mom2tripp replied: I'm lost can you tell us more????
jcc64 replied: Cary, what are you talking about?
kimberley replied: i noticed that too. i am shocked that such a high profile show like ER would dare make such a scene!!!!!
for those who didn't see it, there was a lady who had been waiting in triage for a long time and finally got fed up and asked if there was somewhere private she could nurse her starving child. as Dr Lewis starts to direct her to the family room, the woman's child (about 5or 6yo) comes up and says "mommy i am starving!" and the rest of the docs made sneers and jeers about the child still nursing at that age.
Kaitlin'smom replied: WOW I missed it
kit_kats_mom replied: Sorry, took a nap. LOL
Ok, when the drs were all meeting by the board, a mom interrupted and asked if there was a private room where she could go to nurse her child. Susan pointed her to the nursing nook but then a 5-6 year old (not sure how old but old enough to speak clearly) walked up, grabbed the moms hand and said something along the lines of "come on mom, I'm starving". The Drs all made wierd faces, Susan rolled her eyes and I think she said something like "that kids old enough to make her own sandwich" and the rockin dr said that it grossed him out.
I may not have it word for word because I had a few celebratory glasses of wine. LOL
jcc64 replied: ok, I didn't realize you were talking about a tv show. Totally disconnected from reality, imo. If a 5 yr old is still nursing, it is rarely if ever done for actual sustenance. It's more of an emotional connection by that point, don't you think? Sounds like a snotty way for some 22 yr old tv writer to make his point.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I didn't see it, but I imagine the producer wasn't necessarily trying to make a point or take any sortof position on BF'ding...just wanted to get people talking. And look, it worked!
amynicole21 replied: I saw it. It annoyed me because, like the rest of the world, they totally missed the point of extended bfeeding. Like Jeanne said, no 6 year old would need to nurse because he was "starving."
massagemommy replied: That show is a bunch of garbage anyway. I mean, have YOU ever been in an ER where anybody looked like those people?
DansMom replied: Totally unrealistic and obnoxious writing. And the last episode made me angry on so many levels. That storyline with the surrogate mother insisting on natural childbirth and the baby getting neurological damage, and the way they heroicized that obnoxious doctor who was screaming in her ear to consent to a C-section, and how nobody wanted the baby after it was born---completely ridiculous and enraging.
MomToMany replied: Yeah, that really ticked me off too! Grrr, and while that Dr. was *insisting* she have a C-section, he didn't want her to know the RISKS involved with one .
These storylines are getting so ridiculous! If this keeps up, I'm not going to be watching it anymore !
