I think we're going to do it - that daycare I found

Schnoogly wrote: We visited today with iain and it seems really great. The very first thing--you have to be buzzed in the building and show ID to pick up a kid. That's great! There are only 4 babies in the baby room and Iain would make 5, so they would have a second person to be in the room at all times (max ratio 4:1). Also the asst director and the director come in a lot when the teachers are overwhelmed so they would never let him cry. They seemed pretty confident that Iain would learn to sleep in a crib there (even if he doesn't at home ) but they would hold him while he slept until he got used to it, or let him sleep on the floor. They don't discipline babies or toddlers, they just distract them with something else. The asst. director is asking the director about our cloth diapers, but she thinks they can accommodate them. Also she had a baby a few years ago that had 4 heart surgeries, so they are familiar with what to watch for. It seems a little run-down on the inside (well-used?) but everything is very clean and sterilized/washed daily. We can also have a free day to decide whether it works, so we'll probably do this when we get back from the wedding.

Iain was totally excited--there was another boy (about 9-10 months) actually crawling and Iain was fascinated. And another baby in a swing with a big ball that he wanted, and he kept smiling whenever the teachers talked to him. They said he would fit right in. I hope so...I'm having first time mom jitters!

mummy2girls replied: from a mom that have had experience with daycres...that daycare sounds wonderful. The buzzing in and asking for id...AWESOME. They said they would hold him while he slept until he got used to the crib..how nice is that? Just from what u explained it sounds like a very good daycare cetre. The look of it...dont just look at how run down it is or sued....look at how they sterilize and such. My daycare jen is in right now is the same way.

If you are nervous call throughout the day and even drop in for a surprise visit when they least ecpect it. Ive done that and when you drop in and they dont expect it you will see how truely he is taken care of. because if they know your coming they could just act and get everything prepared.

Go with your gut feeling and do what you truely want. But like i said before it sounds great!!!!

Schnoogly replied: Thank you Jenna's mom, that's what I wanted to hear. It sounded and looked really good. Also, the cook loves babies so much that she comes in and holds them a lot just for fun, and when we got there (I didn't tell them what time I was coming to tour) the cook was holding another baby in a rocking chair while she napped. They said they weren't allowed to have the baby hammock there (I offered to bring it in) as it might cause a safety hazard to the other kids, and I understood that.

Also they provide baby food, do arts and crafts, and all the babies sit in a high chair circle to eat. It was really cute wub.gif

supermom replied: Oh, Steph, it really does sound great - I hope that everything goes well on your free day and that it all works out for you. It really does sound wonderful, though - just FYI, when I did "home-based" daycare, my walls and furniture we're "well loved" but everything was always clean, and was wiped down daily with disinfectant. IMHO, "well loved" means that they care about the kids because they let them explore and have some "freedom" is all......

MommyToAshley replied: Sounds like a great place! I hope it works out for you... keep us informed!

Mommieto2Girls replied: It sounds great, I hope it all works out for the best. Good luck on your free day. Keep us posted!!!

Kaitlin'smom replied: Sounds like a great place! Its good they buzz and ask for ID! As for the run down look, I think it better to have stuff that is well loved and clean than to have new and not be alowed to touch! I hope it works out for you. Keep us posted!

catou_98 replied: thumb.gif Yeah banana.gif banana.gif That's awesome news! banana.gif banana.gif I hope it truly works out for you and Iain loves it there....keep us posted on how the free day went! good luck! smile.gif

mummy2girls replied:
they provide the baby food? WOW that is so nice. Its sometimes a pain to bring baby food because at times i would forget and have to run to a convieince store by the centre to get some jar baby food...UGH

CantWait replied: Glad to hear everything went well at the daycare and you liked what you say. Glad that Iain enjoyed himself also. It makes a world of difference. redbounce.gif
