I never thought I would be thing $2.69 for gas - was a deal.....
TANNER'S MOM wrote: but today I did. I was driving around looking for gas.. $2.79 everywhere else..and I found it for $2.69!
I am so tired of this. It's awful and wrong. I haven't used my A/C..it's 96 degree's here today. I refuse to use it. I will conserve. I may depend on Iraqi oil..but I will not waste it.
It affects me so bad. We spend $700.00 a month in gas trying to get to work and home. Of course we do live out of town..but we can't afford land prices in town either... it's 6 of 1. Half dozen of the other..
But the prices just make me sick. I saw a woman sitting at the park reading a new paper with her windows up and her A/C on.. I know it's her money to waste..and I understand if you have a small child etc. But I am refusing to put extra money in the hands of the oil man. I have never felt like this before..but for some reason I do now.
I guess we aren't even getting a kiss America!
luvmykids replied: Gosh thats a lot of gas money! Now I'm scared to add mine up, I think I've been in denial.
ashtonsmama replied: I found it today at $2.83 and was happy...I do think it's getting a bit ridiculous.
lesliesmom replied: There was a news report today on one of our local stations that here we can expect prices to get to OVER $3 a gallon by the end of the month and stay there pretty much all summer. Thankfully I will be on maternity leave soon so that's 6 weeks of gas savings. After that, I'm seriously considering taking teh bus to work. It usually costs me about $50 to fill up my tank once a week.
C&K*s Mommie replied: I heard something about a new type of oil, one that is across the board better for the environment. That is supposed to push prices through the roof. IDK any information beyond that, I heard it in passing a week or so ago. And I have not researched it further.
It has been a big pot of turtle soup, slowly the water began to boil now the water is roaring with heat! And we are the turtles.
If my mother ever gives me her car (she got it back in decent shape after the theft), then I will be on because of the savings with gas.
Now I am not 100% positive of the truth to this Mel, but Mythbusters once ran a test on running the AC vs windows down and how much gas consumption/differential it would be. They concluded they had 1-2 miles/gallon fewer with the AC running test. This is still alot if you factor in city stop-n-go driving and the poor gas mileage that we get with that. But on the highway, it would be a minimal difference. It is neither here nor there, but I just wanted to pass that along.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Holy cow, I bought it for under $2.40 this week.
Kaitlin'smom replied: I know I hate it. I am using more gas now that Kait is in school, I never thought to factor that in. I love my Van but wish I still had my smaller car that got better gas milaiage. I got it for 2.65 yesterday so its full now.
C&K*s Mommie replied: I would add that I think we are about there at $2.69/$2.79 (most of the time I just pull in without looking-- because it hurts so bad either way) But I am proud that our closest big city neighbor to the west is slightly higher (usually) and Tallahassee (our closest big city neighbor to the east is usually $.10- $.20 higher than us too. So while it is painful to pump, I am thankful we moved out of town (Tallahassee) when we did.
BAC'sMom replied:
or a thank you!
I'm with you Mel this really stinks.
MamaJAM replied: I know it's nuts.
Our grocery store put in a gas station last year -- they usually have the cheapest prices (but they are $2.75 right now too). They are going a promotion right now for every $100 you spend on groceries in the store - you get 10 cents off per gallon. Needless to say - I won't be shopping at any other grocery-chain for a while!
I admit - I am SO THANKFUL for DH's new job....since he's only a 7 min commute away (as opposed to the 75-90 min commute he used to have). I use more gas when the kids have school than he does now.
Momof3inMe replied: It's 2.84 around my house but not far from DH's work its 2.69!!!! So we are getting gass there for now.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: Ridiculous I agree!
huggybugboy replied: uh yeah. our town caught wind of all the gas increases so we're at $3.19. Yeppers, you heard right, thats US dollars.
oh and eta: thats for the so called "cheap" stuff!
CosmetologyMommy replied: I was excited to see it for 2.79 today......
1lilpeanut2love replied: We paid $$2.83 for it today. I put $16 dollars in our van and it barely got a 1/2 tank. Geez these prices are too crazy.
My SO-Michael has to spend about $30 a day in gas. He commutes 2 hours to get to work and 2 hours to get home. Crazy, right!!!
ilovemybaby replied: Is that $2.69 a gallon? You wouldn't believe our petrol price. It's something like $1.62 a litre! Paul puts about $50 or more in his tank every week. That's to fill it up. A litre is 0.26 of a gallon.
A&A'smommy replied: DO YOU KNOW WHY THE PRICES ARE SO HIGH!!!!!!!!?????!!!!! Jeremiah and I were looking at prices the other and the different prices all of the us and then read the article on WHY they are going to go up... its BECAUSE its summer, so they can make more money off of us especially since people are going to be vactioning and that kind of stuff... I think its about time for another strike
C&K*s Mommie replied: I personally think the summer hike in prices is a crock of bull. The same as the high activity hurricane season caused spikes in prices. Both summer travel, and hurricanes in the Gulf can cause rises, I think it is a way for the those greedy people to blame it on something & play sleight of hand, while padding their pockets, and getting fat off of us.
coasterqueen replied: Ours was $2.74 yesterday morning on the way to work. On the way home from work it was $2.94.
jcc64 replied: Just remember, guys, the oil companies have boosted record profits from all of this. If you think there is no connection between the Saudis, the Bush Administration, and the good fortunes of the oil companies, you're kidding yourself. So, when the prices magically lower around election time, let's not forget how much this hurts all of us little people right now.
MommyToAshley replied: There are even better alternatives. There are cars that run on electric or even steam for that matter. I am doing a website now for a department of the university that deals with hybrid engines. There are so many BETTER choices out there than gas powered cars. Even though there is a tax credit available for people who purchase these cars... I don't think that we will ever become less dependant on foreign oil (or oil at all) because the oil companies give so many kick backs to both political parties.
coasterqueen replied: I totally agree, but I think every administration is in cohorts with gas companies. They did make record profits which I think is sick and I think any administration should deal with the situation but it never will be in my eyes or in my day I'm sure.
jcc64 replied: What really makes me sad is that we will forever be tangled up in the explosive and unwinnable politics of the Middle East as long as we ignore the fact that oil is a nonrenewable resource. The technology has been available for YEARS for alternative fuel sources- Brazil just announced it is entirely energy independent by learning to rely on things other than oil for power (is it some form of ethenol?). If it's possible for them, why not us? But as long as we are going to elect people who believe conservation is a "personal virtue" rather than a national commitment, people who broker energy deals in private that benefit no one but politicians and oil company executives, then we will continue to drown in the cesspool of Middle East politics. I hate to go on a rant over this, but it infuriates me that we allow them to get away with it. It's OUR country too, and our planet for that matter, and they're ruining it for all of us. Sorry, I'll take my medication now and shut up.....
Our Lil' Family replied: DH and I just saw something on TV that showed that the CEO of Exxon makes $6000 a DAY!....that's right...a DAY! Totally ticked us off!
na81 replied: Gas prices are rediculous! Just yesterday it was $2.88, this morning when I went to town it's up to $2.98!!! We are just lucky that my SO's shop is like less than 5 minutes from here!!!
mom21kid2dogs replied: I got mine today at $2.64 and was doing the happy dance. Everywhere here it's $2.89 to $2.99
KingMom replied: $2.79 was the best I could find at our Costco Gas, they are only selling regular unleaded right now, there was even a line forming during the lunch hour, I bet it wrapped all the way around the building by 12:30! Glad I got there early enought to see just the beginnings of it forming.
mom21kid2dogs replied: ITA. Gee, we can regulate nearly every other industry in America but not the oil companies. I'm sure that has nothing to do with a President from Texas.
You know what is saddest to me, though? We are so greedy in this country that despite this consumption has not changed. I find that almost unbelieveable.
