Boys r us wrote: We're in the midst of building our new house and I'm at a loss here. I can't decide which color to paint my kitchen/breakfast nook area.
My cabinets are off-white with a black distressed look to them and then the center island is black. So I narrowed it down to either ice blue or coral..b/c I think both of those colors look great with the cabinet colors(off white/black). Now...it's just hard because both colors are so vastly different..the blue is more of a calm yet sophisticated, classy look. The coral is more of a bold statement and reminds me of something I'd see in a swanky little bistro..more uptown if you will.
I will add also, there will be a really wide strip of chair rail around the middle of the wall in the breakfast area..and in the kitchen..obviously with all the cabinets, you won't see much of the paint.
and the other rooms surrounding this(living room) will be most likely a pretty neutral color like a dark eggshell color, which will work with either.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Blue. I love blue and black.
abunky replied: i like the coral

kit_kats_mom replied: coral is my vote. My favorite room in the house is our terra cotta room. It always feels so cozy in there. I also found some info online with "kitchen colors and mood" as my search terms.
Blue: arouses feelings of freshness, coolness and relaxation. In lighter hues, blue is airy and open while dark blues represent wealth, strength and respect evoking the feelings of reassurance in individuals.
Orange: stimulating in its pumpkin orange hue or warm in its terracotta and peach version. As with other intense colors, orange can be distracting, but it is ideal for attracting attention to details.

"Red is a very stimulating color. It stimulates appetite. Of course, blues are more calming. Green is very organic."
http://www.catherinepoole.com/Publications/colormood.php Red = excitement, extremes (passion, hate, anger, in Asian cultures, happiness, quick changes (why fast food and sales involve a lot of red). Red relates to survival and triggers our “tribal” roots. Medically relates to anything solid, bones, joints, teeth, rectum, muscles.
Orange = happy outlook, used to treat depression, it is creativity, it triggers our person to person skills. Orange is all about emotion (encompasses the swift changes, choices of red and the sense of self that yellow represents). Medically relates to fluid, kidneys, lymphatic, reproductive organs, urinary tract. Blue is the color of business, it represents truth, honesty, loyalty. It is the color of healing (with green can be very calming and healing) Blue is the most popular of colors. Blue is a good color to have when communication is key. Medically it corresponds with throat, ears, mouth, everything that we use to communicate with. http://www.bhg.com/bhg/story.jsp;jsessioni...y/data/2181.xml Active Colors
On the warm side of the color wheel, active colors include yellow, orange, and red. These advancing, extroverted hues stand out to greet and sometimes dominate. They inspire conversation and an upbeat attitude.
Red, the most intense, pumps the adrenaline like no other hue. Small doses of the fire-engine hue wake up an entry or turn up the heat on a hearthside den.
Passive Colors
The cool colors -- blue, green, and purple -- will pacify, staying quietly in the background to calm and restore depleted spirits.
These tones are ideal for bedrooms or private retreats, but if you live in a cold climate, you may want to work in some sunny accents for warmth and contrast.
Calimama replied: Blue!
moped replied: Tough call, I like both VERY much, but maybe the blue if I had to choose.....Oh I don't know..........
gr33n3y3z replied: Good taste Nichole I like both very much but I would lean more to the blue bc of the brightness
jcc64 replied: I tend to favor warmer colors in the kitchen- just make sure the coral doesn't get too pinky- stay to the yellow side of coral rather than the bluer side. Love the blue, but I'd rather see that in a bedroom b/c of it's serenity. Didn't know you were building a new house. How's the market down there- bad time to be moving around up here- hope it's better for you guys!
My2Beauties replied: I love the blue, it's gorgeous. I think it will look wonderful against your cabinet colors! Show us pics when it's done.
danahas4monkeys replied: I voted blue it will look great with the black!
Crystalina replied: I prefer the coral. I like color.
A&A'smommy replied: I really like the coral!!!!!
3xsthefun replied: I like the blue!
HuskerMom replied: I voted blue, but they both look nice.
Boys r us replied: The market is TERRIBLE here!!! But it's such a GREAT time to build that we would be crazy not to take advantage of it. Interest rates at an all time low, raw materials for building are half what they were a year ago b/c there is no demand and the sub-contractors doing all of the work are also feeling the drought and are working for peanuts b/c they desparately need the work. So we'll be able to build a house for a significant amount less than we would have been a year ago and much cheaper than we'll be able to once the economy rebounds! Our current place is on the market, if it sells, it sells..if it doesn't, we're okay holding onto it for awhile until things pick back up.
Kaitlin'smom replied: I cant decided I like them both, they are so different.....
Our Lil' Family replied: This is exactly what I keep trying to tell my DH! I think the 15 year interest rate is like 5%!
holley79 replied: I, personally, love the coral.
DVFlyer replied: Blue with Coral stripes.
sparkys2boys replied: YUp, same with me! They are both nice though!
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: The blue! We remodeled our last kitchen in a similar blue, with dark cherry cabinets...LOVED the contrast of light and dark!! The coral is too westerny for me. I would go more with a tangerine or lighter pumpkin if you're going to do that color. JMO.
MoonMama replied: The blue.
