I need major advice about Jacob - long...but need advice bad

jacobsmama wrote: So for those of you who don't know alot about Jacob he was sick alot as infant up until he turned 1 or so with alot of ear infections, bronchitis and he has lyringotracheamalacia wacko.gif (soft windpipe that causes noisey breathing) He was supose to outgrow by 1 and then 2 and never has but now they are saying it is asthma and allergies and is on singulair. He also has a spot on his face that he had go to dermatologist for and they said it is viral and it breaks out when his immunity is down (which seems to be often) sad.gif

So he takes:
Singulair daily
Acyclovir 200 mg 3 times day until face clears up
multiviatmin
Albuterol Inhaler/nebulizer PRN

So about 3 weeks ago he had a fever and kept saying that his head hurt unsure.gif I was giving him tylenol and the fever would go down and then would come right back. I took him to peds thinink he had ear infection but nothing just watch him. Oh and he gets asthmatic croup all the time so takes steroids for that as needed too. dry.gif So fever went away for 3 days comes back...This has been going on for about 3 weeks now so yesterday I get called home from work and he is with a fever again....... growl.gif Ahhh! So I come home and is not feeling well at all so I decieded to call ENT and get him an appt i'm tired of this 3 week fever crap....SO he goes there and the dr says before he looks in Jacobs ears that he needs tubes....WHAT? you didn't even look at him??? Then he looks in his ears and says yep we will schedule in a week or so and here is some omnicef (antibiotic) I said what is this for??? He said just in case??? WTH??? Then he ran out of the room to see the next poor child growl.gif

So last night he was having terrible fever I mean like 104!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
bawling.gif bawling.gif And I ended up all night with bathing him and rags and forcing tylenol. bawling.gif So this morning I was going to take him to ER because he was just feeling awful. Not eating, barely drinking and he felt like he was on fire! bawling.gif bawling.gif

I took him to ER and they called Ped and he came down and told me that this needs to run its course and that kids gets fevers......WHAT??? I love my ped but off and on for 3 weeks!!! I'm seriously sick to my stomach, cant eat or drink I have this gut feeling something is wrong... bawling.gif bawling.gif bawling.gif I know that sounds terrible but he is sick ALL the time...why? It is not fair he doesn't deserve this. bawling.gif He also told me tylenol is only for comfort and not to force it and dont' put him in bath or use cold rags if he doesn't like it because all that is just for comfort and it won't do anything. He said if he had fever by friday to call and they will test for meningitis and other blood things that are viral. He also told me that he doesn't need tubes and the fluid couldn't have been there more than a week because he just saw him and there was none. He said that usually 90% of fluid behind ears resolves on his own.

IDK what to do..... bawling.gif bawling.gif bawling.gif Should I take him to ER and say I need help?? Or trust the ped and just ride this fever out..It is 330 he is sleeping but when went down I used tyelnol suppository and he is still hot I can't handle this and the gut feeling I have is making me litterally sick i'm about to vomit. Help me. bawling.gif bawling.gif bawling.gif bawling.gif

moped replied: You know in your guy how you feel - seriously, if you think something is very wrong, then you need to take him in, even if it will make you feel better. I am sure it does have to run its course, but if you think there is something more serious going on then pelase take him in when he wakes up and let us know how he is!

Kaitlin'smom replied: your his mom and you know your gut feeling something is wrong. Take him in even if its just to help ease your mind. dont stop till you get answers then IMO get a second.

luvbug00 replied: Poor Jacob! and i would take him to the ER. If it were me. Crouping is VERY dangerous and it should not be shrugged off. I can't say I'm very thrilled with how your ped is handleing this..I'm very sorry you and jacob have to deal with this. hug.gif

BAC'sMom replied: I too have allergy and or ear infection babies. Does he have a runny nose or is he coughing? Is he teething? Is there anything else that you can pick up on?

If he was mine I'd take him in. I never liked it when my kiddos had fever.

na81 replied: I would say take him in so it will help ease your mind! You're his mom and you know best!! I like my ped. too, but sometimes I don't think he does a good enough check and I want to get a second opinion. Good luck with whatever you decide and I hope your little guy get better!! hug.gif

jacobsmama replied: Well he woke up from nap and it wa 104! and he can't have tyelnol for another 30 minutes! bawling.gif The thing is that I did take him to ER and they called the ped and said to wait it out so If I go back what do I say?? I want him kept here?? I mean they told me this AM they wouldn't do anything unless ped authorized it and I hate seeing my baby this way. I gave him bath and still 103.8 now he is sleeping again lightly. bawling.gif Do you guys agree even with fever this high it just has to run its course??? It just seems crazy to let him suffer like this.. bawling.gif

he isn't coughing or snotty now he just says his head and belly hurts. and he is shaking and freeezing but that is from fever...And he has febrile seizures to top it all off I have done nothing but hold him and pray all day. sad.gif

Our Lil' Family replied: Sounds like a fever virus, but I've never heard of it lasting 3 weeks. If today is the first day he's not eating see how he eats tomorrow and if by Friday he's still not eating I'd bring him back. Is he drinking?

ilovemybaby replied: I would go to a different Ped and get a second opinion. I'm so sorry he's so unwell. sad.gif hug.gif I read the post and it just sounds sooo bad I don't think this is normal but then I'm not a doctor. unsure.gif

kayla's mama replied: I can't believe the ped acted that way growl.gif I say take him to another ped for a second opinion. Hope Jacob gets feeling better hug.gif hug.gif

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Second opinion and take the list of meds. You mentioned he takes a steroid? They can decrease immune systems.

my2monkeyboys replied: I agree... it wouldn't hurt to get a second or third opinion. I understand that fevers are just the body fighting off infection, but if it's been going on for 3 weeks I'd think the dr would want to look into more by now. If he won't, then I'd find a dr who will. The worst scenario is that there is nothing wrong and it may make your ped a little mad. The most important thing though is that you find out what's wrong and make you and your son feel better.

Lots of hugs and prayers for your little guy!!! Please keep us updated. hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif

my2monkeyboys replied: Just wanting to see about an update on Jacob... I'm hoping he's gotten over whatever it was bothering him.

MommyToAshley replied: Sorry I missed this post. How is he doing now? Poor little guy, sounds just aweful. I know it must have been frustrating trying to get the docs to do more to help. I hope he is better now.

PrairieMom replied: It sounds to me like your Ped is ignoring your concerns. I would get him into another Ped. ASAP. It sounds to me like this is something that needs to be addressed.

PrairieMom replied: Good grief! I didn't catch that this post was from the beginning of the month! I thought this was all going on AGAIN! blush.gif Never mind! rolling_smile.gif
