Does anyone know of a popular children's movie or cartoon that has a character named Perciville?
Yesterday Braedon was telling me that Nanny(my mom) dropped an egg in the floor and it broke, so Perciville brought her some more eggs. I said, "Who is Perciville?" he said,"He's my friend, but he doesn't have a TV and he has red hair!"
So I got a little weirded out..I called my mom & asked her if she knew who Perciville was and she had no idea.
My thing is WHERE does a 3 yr old come up with the name Perciville? Rick and I quizzed him on it last night and he told us, Perciville is nice and he thinks that Rick and I are nice too. He said that Perciville likes to play with him and they play with his tractors and also his choo choo's! and he kept saying that Perciville brings his nanny eggs. I asked him if Perciville was on a movie and he said no, he's my friend!
Anyways, these things weird me out b/c I once saw on a talk show that a lot of times when we thinks that our kids have imaginary friends that they're actually spirits!
PrairieMom replied: This is link to a poem. Did he maybe hear it at school or something?

Boys r us replied: He doesn't go to school. he has an in home sitter.
mckayleesmom replied: Isn't perciville the cat from Cinderella??
Boys r us replied: No, he's never seen Cinderella. I'm so stumped!
mckayleesmom replied: Nevermind...that cats name was Lucifer....Does your mom by any chance watch Little House On The Prarie? Nellie Olsons husband was named Percivulle....(percy) and also...the movie The Green Mile....(the jerk guy was named Percivulle)...Those are the only places I have heard that name.
luvbug00 replied: sounds like he has an imaginary friend..Mya has one too Mario. I hope you find the source of this friend.
Boys r us replied: Well, I'm okay with him having an imaginary friend..but how the heck did he come up with PERCIVILLE?? I mean if his name was bob or mike or Tyler or something I could understand!
My2Beauties replied: I have never heard that name before - LOL! Braedon is co darned cute Nichole!
amymom replied:
On some level I totally believe this and on others I don't at all. But I know just what you are thinking. From the time my son was very small (maybe even 18 mos old) until he was about 7 or 8 he had a friend. We pronounced the name 'Gaaawwwky' like with a southern drawl all drawn out. BUT our son always told us we just couldn't prounounce his name right! It was frustrating at times. But my son knew things, that he 'shouldn't' have. And all these things always came from this friend that only he could see.
My dd on the other hand, only imaginary person she spoke with was my mother. One day she even introduced her to her cousin. My DD was born about 18 mos after Grandma passed away and my neice was born 9 mos later. They were about 3 or 4 yrs old and went off playing and came back with all kinds of info about Grandma. Her birthday, where she grew up, somethings about what she was doing now, Like playing with her 4 brothers and two sisters (all deceased) and watching her other 6 siblings. They said they were playing with their Grandma. It was so spooky, my brother and I sat there with our mouths wide open, we listened and our daughters innocently went away and we still (4 yrs later) have no idea what they overheard and from whom that would have them know all this. My daughter still tells me she talks and plays with Grandma. I tell her to say hello. not sure what else to do.
We don't question them (too much) because we don't want it to seem odd. BUT it sure feels ODD. Sorry to get so long but It is a very interesting subject and I hope some day (when I am old and gone) I will have an answer as to what this all means. Until then I just feel frustration like you do.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Isn't Percy the name of Ron's older brother in Harry Potter?? He has red hair!! Does Tanner have the books or the movies?? Do the boys watch them together, or could Tanner pretend play around Braedon? I have an older sister, so although I was too young to watch some of the things she could watch, of course I was very interested and she would sorta fill me in.
I'm not sure, but that name just sounded very Harry Potterish to me!!
amynicole21 replied: Sophia has a book called "Percival the Plain Little Caterpillar" or something... ring a bell?
amymom replied: Yes Percy is in Harry Potter. And it is getting towards Halloween so maybe they were talking about it. Good thought Rae!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I've mentioned before that Maddie has an imaginary friend, Zoe. Zoe is a pink horse. Well, she changes colors, really. Like the horse on the Wizard of Oz.
Scotty's imaginary friend growing up was Jukey. Now how's that for strange names? Jukey was a black man. I can't remember how long Scotty had him.
I don't believe in the spirit thing and I think it is perfectly healthy to have an imaginary friend.
3xsthefun replied: Sounds just like a imaginary friend to me. Kaitlynn has one.
~KARA~ replied:
I think is a character on a disney movie. 101 dalmations I think.
My 3yr old has 3 imagination friends(as she calls them)
moped replied: I have been thinking about this and haven't come up with much other than he MUST have heard something somewhere with that name. I think it is perfectly fine and normal. He has a GREAT imagination - that will take him places later in life!
MyLuvBugs replied: I agree with Anne. I completely believe that some kids can see spirits, but some kids can not see them at all. And I only believe this b/c I remember my "imaginary" friend from when I was a kid. She wasn't "imaginary", but what I believe either an angel or a spirit and I remember seeing her just as plain as day. But none of my childhood friends could see her at all.
If you're son is playing with a spirit, it's nothing to be afraid of. Perciville sounds like a little kid himself, and only wants to hang out and play. Perciville might also be a protector for your son. Watching over him at school and the sitter. And if Perciville is imaginary that's fine too. Just play along with your son, and don't discourage him from using his imagination.
Boys r us replied: Oh no, we defintiely weren't discouraging him at all from playing with Percivlle...I think it's neat whomever he turns out to be!
Kara actually may have nailed it..I don't know..Rick's mom gave him 101 dalmations last weekend when she watched him while we were out of town. I'm going to watch it tonight and see!
coasterqueen replied: Nichole,
Kylie was talking to me about her doll last night and one of DH's cousins asked her what the doll's name was and she said "Her name is Merst". I was huh, did you say Merst? She said yes, Merst. I've never heard of anyone called that name and thought it was very strange.
It could be an imaginary friend or he could just have made it up. I never would have thought Kylie would come up with a name MERST, but she did.
3_call_me_mama replied: Isn't one of the Thomas the Trains named Percy or Percival?
owensmomma replied: Sounds like he has an imaginary friend.
sweetiez replied: whoa.. yeah thats really scary! id be creeped out to. i'd say if it keeps going on for awhile go talk to a pro. about it. at lease thats what i'd do.
redchief replied: Although I think your son may be a bit young for this reference, there's a Sir Percivale in the legend of King Arthur. He was the knight who was successful in the quest for the Holy Grail.
coasterqueen replied: Ooh yeah, I think there is one named something like that.
Boys r us replied: There is one named percy and he has all of the trains from Thomas and I asked him if it was Percy and he said no. I don't know..it doesn't really bother me at all..I just more or less am curious!
Kaitlin'smom replied: who knows Kait had one named BOB, which never bothered me but DH wonders if it is/was her great grandfathers brother who died in the war, she new thing about hwat he looked like and it sounds just like him, she has never seen a pic of him nor does she know he had a brother. She has not talked about him in a long time. So really it could be either.
