I need decorating help please!
kit_kats_mom wrote: Ok, we have a bathroom that will mostly be the kids bathroom but it is also a guest bathroom.
It's the first room in the house that I'm going to decorate, mainly because I think it will be less expensive than the other rooms where furniture etc is needed. I want the bathroom to be fun but not over the top. I'm not a real over the top person anyway.
Bathroom stats: the toilet, sink, tub and shower tiles are light beige. Counter around the sink is light beige too. There is also linolium that is beige and white. Walls, Door and trim are white.
My original idea is a rubber ducky theme. I figure the kids would like it and as long as I didn't go overboard, it would still be comfortable for guests. My plan was a toned down "rubber duck yellow" paint with white trim, white rugs, white shower curtian & rubber duck hangars (I already have these and they are CUTE), White & yellow towels and a rubber duck bathmat in the tub. I've bought a white cabinet for over the toilet to hold K's (and the other babies) things but so far, that's all I've got. Basically, white and yellow.
My other idea was blue. For some reason I love blue & white bathrooms. However, since all of the appliances are beige, that would make it more difficult to achieve the look I want without spending big bucks. I kind of figured that the beige would blend with the yellow and white..kwim?
Anyway, I'm just fishing for suggestions. Thanks guys!
Jamison'smama replied: There is a lot of stuff out there for rubber ducks so you would be able to find just about anything you want. I think it's cute--I do like yellow and white bathrooms--very clean looking. I I think you can decorate around the beige if you wanted a blue and white bath--your shower curtain and your rug will set the colors.
This is a link to Kohls--I really like the top theme and may end up with that but the others are really neat also----a friend has the fish and it looks really nice. The duck theme on here has a blue and white accent---it would meet all your needs!
Kohls Website with great bathroom ideas
MomToJade&Jordan replied: I like the rubber duck idea Cary, probably because that is the theme in my bathroom. LOL!!!! We even have a duck that goes over the faucet for Jades bath. She LOVES the duckies as she calls them. I think if it is going to be considered K's bathroom when there are no guests then you should go with that idea.
Boys r us replied: I like the rubber ducky idea too! There are SO many things you could do! AND...if you want to be REALLY creative with it I'll tell you something I LOVE!
Take painter's tape and tape the wall off into squares. then paint some of the squares white and some of the squares yellow(you could even do a couple of shades of yellow) and then when you pull the tape off of the wall you're going to obviously have a thick white line between all of the squares..in those lines(provided you use wide enough painter's tape) you can do little duckie stencils/sponge paint. Or you could pick another color out of the shower curtain(like a blue) and paint the lines between the quares that color.
coasterqueen replied: I like the theme too although I don't know if I would go with white rugs. In the "kids wing" of our house is a bathroom for kids and for our guests. I don't know about your guests but sometimes ours don't take off their shoes and you can see where I'm going with white rugs. Also Kylie goes out and gets dirty sometimes and when I bring her in to give her a bath her feet can be DIRTY. White rugs would be awful for that. I don't know though maybe it's because we live in the country, lol. Just my thoughts on that.
I would have LOVED to decorate Kylie's bathroom in a more kid theme but DH thought since it was a guest bathroom too that it should not be done that way.
jcc64 replied: Ok, Cary, here comes the color critic. I like the duckie theme, lots of product out there to make it easy to accessorize. I would suggest adding blue to the mix somewhere- a nice primary or cobalt blue as an accent- maybe the towels? All that white, yellow, and beige might get a little washed out looking, kwim? I would also be careful about the shade of yellow you choose- make sure it looks with the beige tiles. Sometimes yellow and beige together can look pukey if you get it wrong. We're painting over here too. I'm driving dh nuts with all the paint chips.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Hi Cary! We have a ducky bathroom, too. Our shower curtain is mainly blue with ducks on it. I also have a wallpaper border with ducks on it and some pictures, frames, nightlight etc that is rubber ducky. I agree that you could easily incorporate blue into the duck theme. My cousin did her bathroom in ducks, but has a different shower curtain. It is mainly white with chenille ducks on it. She painted her bathroom a real pretty blue and it looked wonderful and was so relaxing. Blue is a very relaxing color (no wonder you like it for a bathroom!) There are a lot of options, but I love the rubber ducky theme and I think you could get the best of both worlds with it (blue and yellow). Good Luck and let us know how it turns out.
MommyToAshley replied: I like the ducky theme too!
And, I agree with the others, why not incorporate some blue into it. You said you wanted a blue bathroom. You could even paint the walls blue and go with yellow ducky wall decorations, accents and shower curtains. I have to agree with Karen about the white rug -- it would show dirt real fast and be hard to keep clean.
Good luck, and be sure to take some pictures. Decorating is so much fun!
kit_kats_mom replied: Thanks guys. After I read your responses, I went to the bathroom to look at K's fave rubber duck & guess what? He has a blue ribbon around his neck. LOL I'm going to go pick up paint chips this weekend and see what I want to do. I'll take pictures when it's done.
jdkjd replied: Target and Pottery Barn Kids have ducky theme bathroom stuff. You could probably get some cool ideas in the PBK catalog.
Kaitlin'smom replied: thats so funny
I love the duckie theme, sounds so fun and cute. I once had a mickey mouse bathroom, LOL and Kaitlin was not even a thought then, I got rid of most of it but still have a bit of it.
I cant waite to see the pics when its done
MomToJade&Jordan replied: You know after I read some of the other posts I agree with adding the blue. Our duckie shower curtain has blue in it. I think that's a very good idea.
LOL!!!!! The duckie has a blue ribbon. I think it;s funny how we can totally miss a detail on something we see everyday.
