I need HELP

My2Beauties wrote: OK for the past few weeks (really months but it's gotten worse in the past few weeks) Hanna throws a fit when I wash her hair! She gets something in her hair everyday, pieces of food, something sticky, etc...and I have to wash her hair at least every other day if not every day sometimes and she throws the biggest fit and gets extremely mad at me and ends up screaming bloody murder in the tub!! Last night she cried so hard while I was washing her hair that she made herself throw up (she tends to be good at this now when she doesn't get her way)! I'm at my wits end, I don't know what to do. She likes the tub, she gets in there and plays with her toys and plays in the water and splashes and laughs and fills up her buckets and pours them out and has a grand ole time until I have to wash her hair! I never get shampoo in her eyes, I wash everything out with a sponge or a washcloth so as not to get it near her face, I have tried every way I can imagine to wash her hair! I try to make it fun and play with her while I am washing the soap out but nothing works sad.gif Any ideas?

Kaitlin'smom replied: what part does she hate? the water puring on her head, the actually washing of her hair or the rinse? Guess I need more info befor ei can suggest things

My2Beauties replied: Well she gets snippy while I am getting her hair wet but doesn't throw a fit, she actually likes the part where I put the shampoo in, because she tries to help wub.gif and plays with the shampoo on her head until I go to rinse it out...this is when she gets very very mad!! sad.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: so its water on her head, not to bad getting it wet but the rinsing is the worst then right?

5littleladies replied: Brianna still hates it when I wash her hair. rolleyes.gif The only thing that has helped us is using one of those visors they make for keeping the soap and water out of their eyes. When she has that on she calms down quite a bit.

mammag replied: Conner is the same way....and he's 5 already!!! He just hates getting his hair rinsed. I have him look way up and if I am successful at not getting anything close to his eyes he is okay but watch out if even a splashing drop gets on. He closes his eyes and cries "get me a towel!!!" It's kind of funny but not at the same time. He cries when I cut his hair because he knows he'll have to get his hair washed again. Silly boy!

Sorry I couldn't help.

Kaitlin'smom replied: Kaitlin is not fond of the rinsing part either, I usually rinse the back first then try and get her to look up and rinse the rest, or I will use a washcloth to help rinse out the top. She is not to bad but I always have a towel handy to wipe her eyes

mummy2girls replied: jenna was this way for the longest time. I now tell her to look up to the celieng i even dangle something above her so she is forced to look up and then i quicklly rinse. She is not that bad anymore. then i give her a face cloth to wipe away the water from her eyes:)

TANNER'S MOM replied: Here is my idea..when I was a child my father did this for me and I do it too for my little ones. We have two wash clothes per bath..one stays dry and is the special rinse hair thing...

I would always fold it over and hold over they eyes...and they would too.. I bought a certain color that for hair rinse and that was all they ever used it for

We never really had any trouble, hold head back and use wash clothes..and sing...we always sing this is the way we wash our hair late in the evenin.

Kaitlin'smom replied:
OMG I totaly forgot I used to do that as a kid..... blush.gif I cant believe I did not remeber that.

catou_98 replied: I always wet/rinse my daughter's hair when she is laying on her back in the tub ( I don't put much water in ther anyways) and she holds a washcloth over her eyes and I never have any problems doing it that way wink.gif , however if I try to rinse it while she's sitting well that's a whole other story! wacko.gif

My2Beauties replied: Well ok here's another problem, she doesn't understand "look up" or things like that, she's 15 months tongue.gif We have to put one of those things down in the bottom of the tub so it's not slick because she also will not sit down in the tub, she refuses! She throws a fit if I try to sit her down. She prefers to stand up and hold on to the side and play and bend over and stuff but she never ever will sit down, I'm talking a screaming fit if I try that results in me being soaking wet and her crying so hard that she can barely catch her breath! sad.gif I always keep a towel handy and am constantly wiping her eyes if any one bit of water gets in there but she just has a fit. I use tearless shampoo and stuff, I don't know what to do! I like the visor idea, but I wonder if she will keep it on, she loves taking hats on and off her head, so I wonder if she will even leave it on and I like the dangling something above her head to make her look up but she still yelps when the water or washcloth hits her head and immediately raises her head up and reaches out for me to get her out of the tub! *sighs* What to do, who knew giving a 15 month old a bath would be this much trouble rolleyes.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
Yeah if you can get her to keep it on it sounds like the visor is your best bet. wink.gif Maybe you can just try holding in in place with one hand while you wash her hair as fast as you can with the other. tongue.gif

ammommy replied: Megan does the same thing and I've tried everything, including the visor. She just rips it off her head and throws it at me angrily. I finally gave up trying to "be nice" and tell her since she won't look up or wear the hat, Mommy has to dump water on her head. I do, holding my hand over her eyes like a visor to help with most of the water. She throws her huge fit, I get her to play in the tub after this drama, and all is well until the next bath.

Has anyone tried the no rinse shampoos? I've been looking for them around town but noone seems to carry them, although my salon told me they would order it if I wanted some. I just don't know how well it gets dinner out of a child's hair laugh.gif .

booey2 replied: Thomas still doesn't much like water in his face but he too threw fits when I rinsed his hair. Now since we go swimming he wants to take a shower. Have you thought about the tub attachement that makes it like a hand held shower head. I really wanted one but our spout it oval and it wouldn't take it so I used a kids play watering can and just told him I was watering his hair to make it grow and he stopped fidgeting as bad as he did. He would also scream at me but I continued rinsing til he was clean. This is a phase and she should out grow it soon.

A&A'smommy replied: I taught Alyssa to look up a while back because she use to have a fit too I would point at something and get her to look if that doesn't do it lightly tilt her chin up. for that other thing OMG i feel for you I don't know what to tell you, maybe get her to lay down or give her something to distract her while your doing it.... I don't know what to tell you ALyssa only did that for a week or so wink.gif

Boys r us replied: Braedon uysed to be the sameway and then I bought him a bath tub visor. Basically I put it on his head and then I do what needs to be done and b/c I'm not having to get him to look up or put my hand around his face or anything to draw his attention to what I'm doing to his head, he doesn't pay any attention. This keeps the water out of their eyes and pretty much let's you do what needs to be done without them even paying attention. May help!

jolene555 replied: i think i'm going to sound like mean mommy here, but here goes. they say to pick your battles, and i decided early on that i wasn't even going to get to the point of picking with bathtime. there's a job to do and sooner it's done the sooner we play - soldiers - lol. as soon as georgia could sit up i dumped water over her head. she hated it, of course, but it's not hurting her. i used the mildest soap extremely diluted then. now when she gets in the tub she sits and waits for me to start, and when she see's the cup she squeezes her eyes shut. i'll say "all done" and she'll open her eyes, smile, and more likely then not she'll shake her head like a dog. she also likes showers.

and, for us, standing in the bath tub is unacceptable. georgia gets in big big trouble for standing in the tub. and by big big trouble i mean she gets no more bath play and a time out. yet another reason the washing comes first - leverage. i think it's all about consistency, and just how stubborn your child is. i haven't had trouble with bathtime in ages, and she's only 13 months old.

loveydad replied: My kids hate that too. I use a spray bottle.

MommyToAshley replied: I feel like a horrible Mommy compared to how much care the rest of you take... I just dump the cup of water on Ashley's head, lol. It runs all down her face and she scrunches up her nose and blows a raspberry, but it's over in a matter of seconds. rolling_smile.gif

Sounds like you have some good advice though. thumb.gif
