I just cheated on my diet. Please tell me (m)
jem0622 wrote: That this one moment of outburst is not going to hurt me. I have so much going on right now. My stress level this week has been through the roof. I could write a novel, but I'll refrain from that.
We have these chocolate covered pretzels and nuts by the PC downstairs and I just went berzerk eating at least a hearty handful.
To top it off...I was weighed in today at my D&C follow up (too much to talk about there for now) and hadn't lost a single pound. I was SOOO upset. I have to work out. And that's that. But when? I have been SOOO tired since I started this diet b/c it is limiting carbs (50 grams a day, roughly). Maybe at lunch. I'll just have to start with walking and go from there I guess. My sister, who has PCOS, told me to switch my carbs from dinner to lunchtime and just stick to protein and veggies...b/c she said that after a certain time of night your body doesn't process carbs and they just sit and change to sugar and then to fat.
UGH. Sorry for rambling. Thanks for listening. I need a drink. LOL.

MommyToAshley replied: ((HUGS)) I am sorry you are having a stressful day, but don't fret over the diet. We all need to cheat once in a while. I don't think I could do the no carb diet so I am not even going to try. I agree that switching your carbs to lunch might help.
I caught part of Oprah the other day and they were talking about dieting. And, I realized that my biggest thing is that I eat right before bedtime. I guess you are not suppose to eat 3 hours before bedtime. Heck, sometimes I don't eat until dinner so I have a lot to make up for before I go to bed, LOL The last couple of days, I have tried to eat a breakfast and lunch, but I am still hungry at bedtime. I think it is habit, and I am just going to have to suffer a little until I get out of that habit.
Sorry, I didn't mean to ramble. But, I thought if you heard how pathetic my dieting was then you wouldn't feel so bad.
Guest_alyssa'smommy replied: awwwie im sorry, but it wont hurt you!!! You can always go back i hope that things get better for you!!!! ((((BIG HUGS)))
CantWait replied: I'm so sorry, you really should give yourself one day a week to play, that's me and dh do, Thursday's are our night to eat WHATEVER we want. Also carbs, no matter what time of day turn into sugar soon as you put them in your mouth, however are essential for working out. I hope you get the energy to work out soon, I know how hard it is too get started but once you do, you'll feel so much better. Good Luck
booey2 replied: Hang in there Julie, one night can not undo the weeks worth of work. I agree about switching the carbs to earlier in the day. I find that when I eat them earlier I tend to lose more than if I wait and have them in the evening for dinner. Chin up and on to a new fresh, less stressful day. Remember it is not a diet but rather a way to change your lifestyle and eating habits - because once you lose the weight you have to learn how to maintain the weight you achieve and I have heard that that can be harding than losing it.
jen replied: Julie, don't worry about it!! ((((((((((HUGS)))))))))) you have to cheat every now and then or diets would be REAL HELL!!!! I hope things start looking up and get back on track. You didn't do any damage in one day, just stick with your long term goal!
Kirstenmumof3 replied: OMG I can totally relate! I'm so bad for pigging out on junk food! But it has to be certain kinds! Before I know it a whole box of cookies, or chocolate will be gone! Be strong, you can do it! And remember when dieting it's okay to give into the craving, just don't go overboard. If you deny yourself the craving, it will only get stronger! YOU CAN DO IT!
amynicole21 replied: Oooooh, chocolate covered pretzels get me every time Time to pitch them in the trash - too much temptation! If mama can't have 'em, ain't nobody havin' em, right?
How long have you been doing the low carb thing? The first week or so of a low carb diet are the worst. After that, your energy level really should start coming back. Are you avoiding all caffeine and soda, too? They kill my energy levels.
Good luck - you are a better woman than I...
jcc64 replied: Allright, not to start a big diet debate here, but don't you think your body is trying to tell you something if you are lacking so much energy? I know the low carb thing is fashionable right now, but I can't understand how a diet that eliminates such an essential part of the food pyramid can be considered healthy. I have read the Atkins book carefully, and the process of ketosis is extremely taxing on your kidneys and was never meant to be a lifelong diet. Your body needs carbs. The trick is to pick wisely. Whole wheat, high fiber, no refined sugars and flours, blah blah blah. My boss has been on Atkins for 6 years now. Yeah, she's skinny, but her breath STINKS and she has to take lipitor because her cholesterol is so high. Lipitor puts a lot of stress on your liver. So she would rather abuse her kidneys and liver and be on medication than find a more reasonable way to eat. I don't get it.

I understand what you are saying, but I'm not doing induction (Atkins) or phase I (South Beach). I am following a WW (weight watchers) meal plan (and I verified the points I'm allowed based on height and weight with a co-workers WW resources) and I am in my proper range to lose. I am measuring and weighing my food. Portion control. And I need portion control. America needs portion control.
Here is kind of an idea of what I eat (carbs included):
Breakfast: 1/2 cup dry measured rolled oats (add appropriate water for microwaving) (about 24 grams of carbs) 1 c berries (fresh strawberries, blueberries, etc) 1 packet of Equal (to sweeten) 1 cup of coffee * a couple of times a week I have a hard boiled egg too
Lunch: 10 baby carrots 1 oz cheese 3 pieces of lunch meat 2 cups of salad greens with dressing Water (I drink at least 40-60 oz/day)
Snack: Apple, or dry roasted peanuts (serving size on container), or low fat wheat thins (serving size on container)
Dinner: Meat/poultry/fish serving two veggies brown rice or two pieces of low carb bread (about 18 grams of carbs) fruit salad water
I wouldn't be suprised by this regimine that I'm going over on my WW points, but I know I have room for flexibility every week (35 pts extra, I think).
My BMI is in the obese range, so I do need to lose. And if you add the carb amounts in the fruit/veggie items that I consume, then that puts me in my 50-60 gram range. As you can see, I'm getting lots of fruits and veggies. And I'm the first to say that I was TERRIBLE about getting enough before this diet. If anything, my eating is far more healthy and well rounded and I don't feel I'm depriving myself in any way. I'm not drinking soda, kool-aid, juices, etc. And I'm not consuming exhorbitant (sp) amounts of fats. Some folks take advantage of Atkins and such saying you can have it, but my lunch meat is fat free and I use butter and oil sparingly.

booey2 replied: Hi, if your energy is really low you might want to increase your protien, your body takes longer to break it down and gives you more energy over a longer period of time. HTH.
jem0622 replied:
Thanks for the tip! Maybe I can add yogurt in for an AM snack and maybe make sure I eat that egg every day...or egg whites. I bought some containers of pure egg whites for omlettes and such.
I also need to take my vitamins. Bad mommy!
Thanks all for your support. BTW, the choc. covered pretzels left a very nasty taste in my mouth so if I'm going to indulge in the future I'll be more considerate of my taste buds! LOL.

amynicole21 replied: Hmmm... you sure you are only getting 50 grams of carbs? From the diet you posted it seems like it would be a lot more (carrots, fruits, rice, rolled oats and wheat thins). Don't get me wrong, your diet plan looks AWESOME - 100% better than mine Just wanted to make sure that you weren't getting more hidden carbs than you thought you were.
jem0622 replied:
Actually, I think that is my problem. I should probably key it all into a carb calculator thing after I get nutritional values on each and see what I have. Yeah, carrots are higher but I want to round out my veggies (I usually get two leafy green servings and then green beans and carrots).
I am not in a huge hurry to change this, but I should know all of the ins and outs of what I'm doing to tweak things if I need.
amynicole21 replied: Sounds like a perfectly healthy diet to me. You are getting all of your food groups in, which is so important! Keep it up!!
jem0622 replied: Wow. I just counted up what I typically eat (btw, I don't have brown rice everyday. every few days). I only eat the wheat thins if I am just dying for some grains after lunch (maybe once a week, at most) so I didn't count them in my calculation).
The meal plan I listed for my typical day totals 85 grams of carbs. Wow. I had no idea. That does include the rice. If I took the rice out it would be 64 grams per day, which is what I was looking for a target. So a few days a week I'm at 85, while others I'm at 64. Just depends.
Now, I did splurge at Nathan's bday party (pizza topping and no crust, plus a slice of flourless chocolate torte (Atkins recipe book)). And I did have a few days this week where I stressed badly and ate a protein bar (high in protein and fiber, about 14 grams of carbs). So those things probably did not help me.
BUT...I do feel that I need to exercise. I cannot wait the three months that my doctor told me to wait to start a workout regimine.
Enough of my blabbering. But that's the extreme detail of my eating.
Julie
amynicole21 replied: Don't forget that you can deduct all fiber from your carbs! This was a lifesaver for me because I ate at least one of those Atkins protein bars every day
coasterqueen replied: Just want to send you some ((((HUGS)))) I am having the worst time giving in to cravings So I know how you feel. Keep going, it will get better. But by the looks of your food plan, you are eating 10x better than I am, lol.
