I just can't figure it out!! - venting again!
Schnoogly wrote: Just when everything seems to be going better it takes a giant turn for the worse! On Wed. night our friends came to babysit Iain so we could go to the movies. He was so good, no crying at all! Then he slept better that night than he has in weeks. Then yesterday was almost a perfect day--4 easy naps, asleep before the first song on the lullaby CD was over. Put in hammock, slept great, played, ate his food, etc.
Then last night was horrific. Up every hour, then at 4 decided he didn't want to nurse at all and wanted to be carried around. Wonderful Dh did this, but he wouldn't go back to sleep in bed. Dh took him down to the recliner and held him on his chest to sleep. Poor DH never went back to sleep after 4. And now he won't sleep in the hammock at all--just screams. He's thrashing around in his sleep in the sling right now.
Aaaarrrgghh!!! My shoulder is killing me. He weighs too much for the sling to be comfortable anymore.
I also think he has allergies--he is always stuffy and rubs his red eyes. Also, some wheezing, coughing, ??? Do they give babies allergy medications? Dh has the worst allergies and I am ezcema/hayfever girl.
He's almost 7 months old...I know I probably won't be holding him when he's in kindergarten, but it sure seems that way.
Truly, truly, the hardest part of being his mom is not the heart problem, it's the high needs...and I know I said in the "how many kids" post that I wanted 2 more, but today I don't ever want another if they're like him.
Plus the &&**((((**&&^^ street cleaners are making a giant racket outside...they're going to wake him up!!!!!
Schnoogly replied: It's not street cleaners, they're sandblasting the stucco off the house across the street. Oh great, they'll be doing this all day. Wonderful, just makes my day *that* much more special...

~CrazieMama~ replied: I was wondering, do you think that maybe he is teething? Or really gassy? Most babies act that way when there is something wrong like that. Just my opinion. Maybe there is nothing wrong and he is just making your day challenging..lol never know!!!!
Mommieto2Girls replied: I wish I could help you but I have no clue. Maddie hasn't been sleeping in her crib the last week but finaly last night she slept all night. Have you given him teething meds, and the teething tablets ? It helps alot with teething. The fussyness could be teething, as soon as Maddie starts to get fussy I give her tylonol and two tablets and it works right away.
maliksmommy replied: I wish had some help for you, but I wanted to send big hugs your way
Julie (jem0622) replied: Sounds like it is either teething or tummy upset. I would try teething tabs, gas drops, and either advil or motrin.

Schnoogly replied: OK I gave him motrin...he's been teething for months and months it seems, since he was about 3 months old. No teeth yet. I have begun to doubt they will ever come in. I'm just at a loss--every day is different, with no apparent reason for his behavior. This is why I need the meter!!!!
Maybe I ate some cheese, I don't know.

mckayleesmom replied: When Mckaylee gets like that,,,I put about 2 inches of water in the tub and put her in the actual tub and let her splash herself to tired.....works like a charm. She loves her baths so much that that is better then a pacifier.
Schnoogly replied: That's true, he does like water. Maybe I'll take a bath with him. He doesn't want to sleep, so ???
MommyToAshley replied: I am sorry you have to go through this.
My first thought was the same as the others...sounds like teething. Or, since he didn't want to eat, could he be constipated? Ashley can't sleep when she is constipated.
I hope things get better for you soon!
MomToJade&Jordan replied: It sounds like teething or gas to me.
Jade started teething at 3 months as well and got her first teeth at 5. She is in fact having teething problems today. I usually give her some tylenol and if that isn't enough I get out the baby orajel. She was up last night about 2:30 and was having the hardest time going back to sleep. So I gave her some nighttime oraljel which lasts longer. She slept better after that but she is pretty tired today. She has all ready gone down for a nap and it is only about 11 am here now. As for gas. Jade was the worst. I should have invested in the mylacon drops company. I used to have to watch everything that I put in my mouth. Babies are funny in that they can be happy and fine one moment and then all of a sudden the mood changes. I hope that little Iain is feeling better and then your day has gotten better.
supermom replied: I can't say I can offer much more than the others, other than another for you......you are awesome to handle it so well -
shelrae00 replied: I have not posted much about a high needs baby because Sarynn is not one. But MARSHALL WAS!!!
He had a stroke at birth, he has cataracts that he had had to have sugery on one eye for so far. He had a dairy allergy so was on soy and I had to cook everything without cheese, milk sour cream, the cream soups. What a pain! (I have to do that again with Sarynn too.) He has a SEVERE peanut allergy. He as asthma! From the stroke he has weakness on the left side. So he had therapy once a week and still does. He started puking at a year old for no aparent eason so we had to go thru all of the testing cause they thought he had reflux. They never did figure out what caused all of the puking but after allergy meds it had greatly decreased.
Anyway, I could go on and on. The point was not only was there all of these issues with him but the child did not sleep. I had to carry him constantly. as he got older, he was a terror on the house. Never sat still and played. I was his soul source of entertainment. I gave him so much attention because when he was born the Drs said they had no idea what he would be like as far as delays and stuff so I worked with him constantly.
Needless to say, I was exhausted. I was never gonna have another child. He was just TOO MUCH WORK! As he started getting older it got a little better. He actaully started meds in Jan for ADHD and it has made a world of difference. It is like he is the kid he should have been all along but couldn't be.
My thoughts are with you and I understand Schnoogly. Definitely use baths. That one one of Marshalls playtimes and still is. I would put him in the tub and sit in there on the toilet doing bills or making phone calls. Or just so I could have a few minustes to sit.
And I remember looking at other babies and all of my friends babies and felt like why me? why is my baby so hard to care for ahd has all of these issues. But now I know it is because God knew I could handle him. Alot of othere moms maybe couldn't have. All of your hard work will pay off eventually.
I am SO sorry this got SOOOO long! God bless anyone who acutally made it thru this post!
My thoughts and prayers are with you Schnoogly!!!
Shelly
Schnoogly replied: Thank you Shelly! I am glad Marshall is doing better. I know meds make all the difference for some kids. Also, I am VERY glad to know your second was much mellower!! Gives me hope. Steph
DansMom replied:
When Daniel won't sleep well it's either teething or tummy (this seems to be what everyone is saying). Now that I know he has a severe allergy to cow's milk, I have cut way, way back on my own consumption of milk and he seems to be sleeping much better. For teething Daniel likes cold teethers from the fridge---sometimes this brings instant relief and I don't need the orajel---other times, not!
I hope Iaian sleeps better tonight!
