I hope everyone is enjoying their day - WHY BECAUSE

Happy Memorial Day everyone!!!!
luvmykids replied: Just tell your boss you're calling it a day
I'm enjoying it, doing some stuff around the house and in about two hours going to my moms for steak on the grill
jacobsmama replied: YUck! What time do you get to go home?
A&A'smommy replied: yuck I'm sorry!!!!
I'm sorta enjoying the day I'm kinda sad I'm not at the river with my friends
redchief replied: I spent the day doing what we're off work to do - remembering those who gave all for our country. I attended two parades and three Memorial Day ceremonies in our town and nearby. The day started at 8:00 and ended at 2:30.
When you see a veteran this week, thank him or her. When you pass by a church or memorial, remember those who gave all so that we can remain free and strong. If you know a family of a soldier who has lost his or her life, give a helping hand.
Calimama replied: Well said.
This isn't exactly pertaining to PC.. just in general.
It saddens me that I've heard more about BBQ'S, beach, party's and drinking than I have about the actual POINT behind Memorial day. I wish people would stop by a VA hospital, or a grave site of a solider who died. I think it would humble a lot of us.
ETA: I get that war doesn't always affect other people's day to day life, but this is the one day that what our veterans have done should affect every single person.

coasterqueen replied: Just because someone mentions pool parties and BBQ's doesn't mean they did not honor veterans.

I was really ticked yesterday and called our local school district because they had classes... To me that is so disrespectful!
lisar replied: I completly agree. I made it a point to think about my Papa who passed away he was a Veteran. Didnt die in war but he was in the Marines for over 30 years. He died of cancer. But I still made it a point to think of him.
redchief replied: There were over 50,000 people in town for Memorial Day Weekend. It's the second busiest weekend of the summer here. Approximately 1,000 turned out to honor our war dead. Statistically 49,000 couldn't take an hour out of their festive weekend to say thank you and we'll never forget. It was a fine beach day though.
luvmykids replied: I know it was a day early, but at our church on Sunday they had all veterans and active duties come to the front and read letters people in the congregation had written....about a loved one, about what our freedoms mean to them, etc...it was very touching. We of course then gave them a standing ovation that went on for what seemed forever. It was very moving, I think everyone in the place had tears flowing. Many of them were in uniform and there was an old, old, old man I talked to after church, he was in WWII and it dawned on me that there aren't many from that generation left and I hope future generations will still be able to appreciate them even though they won't be able to hear their perspective directly from them
coasterqueen replied: I don't know what to say Ed. Some may honor the war dead in a different way than what society wants or thinks they should.
I don't go to our town ceremonies, but I do usually go out to the gravesites (my grandfather is a deceased war veteran) and pay my respects and do so in other ways with my family. Doesn't make me a terrible person nor does it make me honor them less.
