mammag wrote: Okay everyone, I've always wondered this. I'm hoping some of you country folk might know what this means.

My mom has all kinds of weird sayings but this one is the oddest..... She always says - "well, I swan to goodness"... laugh.gif How do you swan to anything, let alone goodnes??? I'm assuming it is a replacement for "I sware to god"???

Maddie&EthansMom replied: My grandmother has always said "I swanny to goodness" My mother now says it and I say it when I imitate my grandmother. laugh.gif I'm assuming also that it is a replacement for "I swear to God" wink.gif

jcc64 replied: Never heard that before. Must be a Southern thing????

DansMom replied: Yeah, I'm a rural yankee and have never heard that. Must be southern biggrin.gif

Boys r us replied: rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif Yeah it is old southern! LOL I nor any of my friends my age use it, unless we're trying to be funny. But I hear lots of older people say it. Basically it's like saying I swear... I swanny! rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

My2Beauties replied: Yeah it basically mean I sware to God, I've heard it a few times! rolling_smile.gif

TANNER'S MOM replied: My Granny Bob used to see.. We'll I be swam.. Or I be Swam to goodness too.

I never say it either but I have said some other silly stuff..lol

Us southern people have never be accused of making a lot of sense..but we have some good traditions.

C&K*s Mommie replied: I am in Florida (not really considered the South like AL) but I had never heard that! I like it! tongue.gif
