I guess I didn't realize - how bad the health system was.....
moped wrote: My doctor has reffered Jack to see a specialist because he is still coughing at night and it doesn't seem to be getting any better........so possibly asthma - UGH, anyways, there is at least a 6 MONTH WAIT!!!! WHAT??? I was stunned, and called back hoping that they can do something in the meantime because if it is asthma then he needs to see soemone before 6 months!
My2Beauties replied: That is terrible!
coasterqueen replied: Are you in Canada Jen?
This is what some of the Canadians that Dh works with now have said.
gr33n3y3z replied: Good idea Sometimes Dr.'s offices can pull a few stings so call Jacks Dr back and see if they can get him in much sooner most likely they can
Good luck
moped replied: Yes I am in Canada - I actually thought we had a pretty good system going here but this is nasty!!! I am very upset right now and I am not sure what my next step is. I called my doctors office and they said there was NOTHING they could do to speed it up - I don't believe it!
coasterqueen replied: ((HUGS)). It is terrible. I had heard about this happening and that's why DH and I both hope we never have a government paid/controlled health care system.
I hope you find someone to help him get help sooner. How horrible for him.
A&A'smommy replied: OH no that is awful!! Jen I hope you can get him in sooner!
chloe&tysmommy replied: Oh that is horrible...poor Jack Hopefully it's not asthma!
I was told once that we had to wait 6 months for Chloe to see a hearing specialist (her hearing is fine) and they called within a month and asked if we wanted to get in early b/c of a cancellation..hopefully that will happen for you
kimberley replied: wow that is awful! i never wait longer than 2 months for any medical stuff but i am in toronto. can you take him to another city? why can't the ped prescribe inhalers? mine did. hope you figure it out
mummy2girls replied: wow! that is awful! jennas ped had gotten her in to see a asthma specialist in 2 weeks but then she had a bad asthjma attcak and ended up in the hospital. lets hope that doesnt happen to jack.... but we are just 3 hours from each other so thats is wierd you have to wait that long
ediep replied: oh no!! Hope he gets to see the doc sooner
CantWait replied: It's rediculous the state that the healthcare system is in.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: And here`s a loop hole I found out.....
go to another province, you`ll get in QUICKER, but you`ll have to PAY.

I moved to Quebec from Ontario - and I don`t have my Quebec provincial card yet - I still have to pay for all my gyn appointments, I`ve had to pay for both ultrasounds, and I had to pay when I went in for my knee. (total of about 650$, not counting the gyn appts....)
However, I am 'registered' for Quebec health care - so I'll get refunded once I get my card. I have an appointment in 1 month to see a specialist about the possible cartilage stuck in my knee - which is a big step up from the 18 months ++ I had to wait to have my leg checked out for my meralgia.
The thing about health care in Canada - if you pay, you can get quicker service - but the system doens`t favor the rich people....if you`re really sick, you get the same treatment regardless of whether you make 18K a year or 180K a year - which is important IMHO. You`d probably want subsidized health care if you coulnd`t afford to pay...Karen - what if Kylie or Megan were really sick and you coulnd`t afford to pay their medical bills? Wouldn`t you be glad THEN that the system was subsidized? I dunno - I`ve never had to pay for medical stuff, so I don`t know the benefits of not having it government paid....
