moped wrote: Can't wait to see what it is like!
kimberley replied: enjoy! i am sure you will
moped replied: Its a good thing I don't have TV to watch tonight
CantWait replied: Ok I'm hearing about Twillight a lot, but haven't heard anything about it if you know what I mean.
Can someone please fill me in?
Nina J replied: I am up to the 2nd one.
I didn't now anything about them either, but I kept hearing about them so I brought the first 1, and when I was halfway through it I got the 2nd and 3rd one. Basically, it is about a girl who moves to a town called Forks, to live with her Dad. She meets a guy called Edward and his family who are vampires. It's basically a love story, high school type thing.
Twilight was good, I didn't really get into it until about the middle. But I really liked it and so far, New Moon is great. I am liking the 2nd more than the first.
Brias3 replied: I FINALLY decided to give these books a try. I've been wanting to start up a new book and so picked up a copy of Twilight at Target yesterday. Well lo and behold, I was up till nearly 2 am and finished the whole darn thing! I ran out to get New Moon today- they didn't have the other two, so I'm stopping at Barnes and Noble next time I pass. I'm hooked!
MoonMama replied: Ok glad I'm not alone here. I'm on the 4th book (again I'm re-reading the series, I LOVE the books)....LOVE the movie too I must admit.
Calimama replied: I guess I should buy the books and try them!
AlexsPajamaMama replied: I think I'll have to get me a copy of Twilight too!
Jackie012007 replied: yay! I am so Twilight obsessed - I've been reading the entire series over and over and over again since about July my only advice is DON'T go see the movie if you absolutely love the books... I was so disappointed
Her other book, The Host, is really good too!
Right now I'm taking a Twilight break and reading (bawling through) "Change of Heart" by Jodi Picoult - LOVE it, its so good.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Jodi Picoult is a fantastic author. I read "my sister's keeper" a little while back, cried thruogh the whole thing.
Another great author is Joseph Boyden. I just read both "Three day road" and "through black spruce", they give a little insight on American Indians and the 1st world war (it's the story of 2 of the most famous snipers in the Canadian army) and the story of a family a few generations later. fantastic!
I haven't gotten into Twilight yet, but I hear it's great.
MoonMama replied: Awww I LOVE the books (pretty obsessed too ) but I also LOVED the movie, I can't for the next. But then again I never go into movies expecting them to be like the books, its just never so.
boyohboyohboy replied: my dh thought this was kinda like "harry potter" for adults, would you say so?
Nina J replied: I actually think Twilight is more for children. I still don't understand how a 7 year old could understand Harry Potter past the third book, lol. I always thought that with each Harry Potter book, the maturity of the content rose with the characters ages, if you kwim.
I enjoy Twilight and Harry Potter, but I think Meyer's writing style is not of the same standard as J.K. Rowlings. It is very straight to the point, imo. I prefer Rowlings, but both are good.
I like Jodi Picoult, too. I loved My Sister's Keeper, 19 Minutes and Plain Truth. I didn't like the Pact so much, though.
jem0622 replied: I read all 4 books, plus I have downloaded the 5th one that was leaked and she is still workinig to finish. LOVED the series. And I am not known to sit and read unless it is to my kids!

ETA: I did buy The Host, but I did not like it. :\
Jackie012007 replied: ohhh yes, I love me some Jodi Picoult. I LOVED My Sister's Keeper - and bawled at that too. The Pact was eh, The Tenth Cirlce was FANTASTIC, Nineteen Minutes was sooo sad, and OOH she has a new one coming in March!!
BecauseIsaidSo replied: Hi there, I am new here and this is my first POST on this board!!
My dd devoured the Twilight book! She is 14 and loves to read~thank goodness. I take her to the library for most of her books.
Jodi Picoult~she can't write fast enough for me!
Have any of you all read any of Dorthea Franklin? Sullivans Island, Pawleys Island etc....they all center around South Carolins. Great reads~just good ole fiction!
I HAVE to have something to read at bedtime every night. It is a must. I found myself bookless last week (Library was closed the day I finished a book) so I resorted to an encyclopedia on my bookshelf. I selected the letter/volume "V". Read up on Vietnam. Interesting and educational!! LOL
kimberley replied: i have to disagree. i don't think the content is appropriate for children. especially in the 3rd and 4th books when Bella is a bit "passion" obsessed. teenagers, yes... kids, i don't know. tho the writing style is definitely more basic and easier for a younger audience to read, i am not sure that i would give it to my boys now, even if they were interested.
i read the cover of the host and it didn't excite me. but i am planning to read that 5th partial book that Julie mentioned on the website.
is there a certain book i should start with for the Jodi Picoult books?
Nina J replied: I should clarify that by children, I mean anyone under the age of 18, lol.
I don't know why but I always just say child or kids for anyone until they're an adult. I completely skip over teenager
So when I said child, I didn't mean and 8 year old, lol. I meant tweens and teens.
